Pope Francis baptized 32 babies (17 baby boys and on 15 baby girls) the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord on January 12, 2020, in the Sistine Chapel, in the Vatican City, reports uCatholic.
In his homily for the mass, the Pope acknowledged that children cry in unison -- that is when one child begins to cry in church, another one follows suit. But the Holy Father advised the people not to get upset.
“When a child cries in church, it’s a beautiful homily, a beautiful homily,” Pope Francis said.
The Pope said babies would cry at some point when they are in a new environment, suggesting that the chapel’s setting that can be a bit too warm. It also doesn’t help the babies to be baptized may also not used to wearing their dress for the Feast of Baptism.
“If your child cries and complains, perhaps it’s because he feels too hot: take something off of him. Or, because he’s hungry. Nurse him, here, yes, always in peace,” the Pope said.
It is not the first time Pope Francis defended breastfeeding in public. In 2018, he said breastfeeding is a language of love, and nursing moms should not be afraid to feed the children in the church.
The Holy Father also underlined in his short but sweet lecture the importance of the Sacrament of Baptism. It is so that children grow with the strength of the Holy Spirit.

Still, it is the parents’ responsibility to guide their children “to grow with the light,” the Pope added. Apart from teaching children basic Christian religious education, it’s also crucial for parents to help their kids live it through being an example at home.
