  • Divine Lee Is Still Vomiting 2-3 Times Daily Even in Her Third Trimester!

    by Rachel Perez .
  • Morning sickness is a common pregnancy symptom. Not all pregnant women have it, and those who do experience it in varying degrees. Some women get it not only in the morning but also at nighttime, while others may have it even after the first trimester.

“Few weeks to delivery and I’m still puking two to three times a day,” preggo mama Divine Lee Go wrote on Instagram Stories. “Hyperemesis, may araw ka sa kin,” she added. She was referring to the more severe type of morning sickness, hyperemesis gravidarum (HG).

According to the Hyperemesis Education and Research Foundation (HER), pregnant women who suffer from HG can experience numerous episodes of nausea and vomiting throughout the day. It can get so bad that it can lead to dehydration, weight loss, or nutritional deficiencies if left untreated, and may affect the health of the unborn baby. TV host Bianca Gonzalez Intal and The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton had HG, too!

Divine, now 35 weeks into her second pregnancy, said her experience with HG was worse during her first and second trimester. “Every after meal, I puke talaga. Even sometimes just drinking causes me to puke,” she told Smartparenting.com.ph via Instagram message. Thankfully, even if she’s still vomiting a few times daily, it’s “a bit better” now in her third trimester.

The model-turned-entrepreneur is not new to combating HG as she also had it when she was pregnant with her first child, son Baz, up until delivery. Divine would throw up five to seven times in a day, but despite it, she still considers her first pregnancy relatively easy. (Read her pregnancy and birthing story here.)

HG has no cure, and treatment consists of managing the symptoms and preventing dehydration. Doctors also make sure the baby is getting enough nutrition even if the mom can’t keep her food down. Divine has tried tips like chewing candy, drinking tea, and other expert-recommended advice such as eating more meals in smaller portions, but they didn’t work for her.

How does she manage her all-day morning sickness? “Honestly, patience talaga and hydrate,” Divine told Smart Parenting. But if even drinking sometimes causes her to throw up, she added, “I just wing it. I’m lucky I have a big appetite, so I don’t need to be confined.” Some women who have HG need to stay in the hospital so their health could be monitored, and to keep them hydrated via IV.

“I know na when it’s coming. It’s the feeling na parang full ka na nauseous. I go na to the closest toilet just to make sure I make it,” Divine shared. She also has barf bags (from airplane flights) just in case. The preggo mama also always brings a toiletries bag. “You really have to brush, gargle with mouthwash, and mint, etc. I’ve been puking too often that parang my body got used to it,” she explained.

Just a few weeks until she delivers her baby girl, Divine had already ticked off on her list a couple of childbirth preparation tasks, such as having a mani-pedi and her hair colored. “Don’t panic, organic!” she wrote on Instagram Stories. “Oh baby girl, Wag mo sabihin di kita pinaghandaan sa arrival ha!” she quipped.

Divine has done some preps before she delivers her baby girl, which is soon!
