Administration bet and Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas II has admitted defeat and conceded to election frontrunner mayor of Davao City Rodrigo Duterte who is currently leading the presidential candidates by a wide margin.
In a press conference, Roxas gathered his supporters and said it was clear based on the partial and official results that Duterte has won.
“Ayon sa unofficial count, si Digong ang susunod na pangulo ng bansa… Digong, I wish you success. Ang iyong tagumpay ay tagumpay ng ating bansa,” he said.
Roxas also called on the public to respect and acknowledge the results as it reflects the voice of the nation.
“Galangin at tanggapin natin ang pasya ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.
Earlier, Senator Grace Poe conceded to Duterte and congratulated him via phone call. She also presented an electoral agenda to the tough-talking mayor who said he would review it.
Duterte is currently enjoying a lead of over 6 million against Roxas, his closest rival who has 9,284,654 votes as of 2 p.m. with 91.71 percent of the total election returns being accounted for.
