Saab's Baby Pancho Was Baptized At The Hospital After Birth 'Just In Case'

Pancho Gerardo Magalona Bacarro, the 5-month-old son of musicians Saab and Jim, was welcomed into the Christian faith for the second time last Saturday, July 14. This was revealed by Jim in an Instagram post yesterday, as a caption for a family photo taken at the event.

"When he was still in the ICU, we were urged to have a priest come and baptize him “just in case.” Since Saab was also confined in the ICU, she couldn’t be there. And because no priest was available, a very young brother training to be a priest came and performed the ritual. Brother Franz was nervously shaking as he prayed over Pancho who was still hooked up to all those machines," reads part of his caption.

He also shared that this second baptismal over the weekend was "a monumental day for our family," because it was shared with his wife Saab and the rest of their family and friends. Since the first baptism happened just days after the twins' birth, it could be that Saab was still recuperating and could not be present to witness the blessing.

Saab Magalona and Jim Bacarro's introduction to parenthood is by no means ordinary. Their fraternal twins were born at only 30 weeks old on February 8, then daughter Luna Isabel passed away shortly thereafter. Their surviving child Pancho had to undergo several surgeries after birth, and the couple had to remain strong for each other and see their son through a number of medical procedures and confinement at the neonatal ICU, all while still coping with their loss.

In a post four months after the tragedy, Saab shared an inspiring thought about grief, and how she is dealing with it. "My body was once home to three heartbeats 💗 I’ve been allowing myself to grieve Luna’s passing and to enjoy all my moments with Pancho. It’s been such a rollercoaster to say the least, but I am getting better...Sometimes sadness happens. Allow things to be as they are in each moment."

In April, the Bacarros shared some good news on social media as baby Pancho was discharged from the NICU, and later on was on his way to full recovery after his Ommaya Reservoir, a device planted under his scalp a few days after he was born to relieve pressure on his brain, was removed via surgery—he didn't need it anymore.

Saab also found solace in pumping breastmilk. Thanks to her older sister Unna's encouragement, she started during those first few weeks that Pancho still could not breastfeed. "We were all trying not to think about my baby boy’s critical condition and as I’m typing this, I’m realizing that my pumping was very therapeutic for me," the new mom posted on her blog. Thanks to this crucial first step, Saab was able to donate at least 500 bags to those who needed it.

It's been a tough five months so far, and the Bacarros have a long way to go into their parenting journey. But with their unwavering faith and fortitude, and their little bundle of joy, nothing could shake up this little family that could.
