More than five weeks into the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local government units (LGUs) are still in the process of distributing cash aids under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).
Under the SAP, each qualified family can receive at least Php5,000 up to Php8,000 per month for two months for basic food, medicine, and toiletries. The amount varies, depending on the prevailing regional minimum wage rates and takes into account the other subsidy programs in cash or in-kind, under the DSWD. Each of the 16 cities and municipality in the National Capital Region (NCR) were required to submit to the DSWD the final list of families that are qualified to receive the SAP. They are also mandated to publicly post their list in their barangay halls for transparency.
Several cities have started distributing cash aid under the SAP. Valenzuela had just started distribution on April 21. Makati and San Juan are still finalizing their list of beneficiaries and arranging a swift schedule for distribution. If you have not received your cash aid from the government, check your barangay and LGU announcements.
The SAP is not the only assistance program the government has rolled out. If you did not qualify for the SAP and any of the national government's COVID-19 subsidy programs, LGUs also have their local programs that can assist you.
The City of Manila, for example, gives cash to senior citizens. Pasig City, on the other hand, distributed food coupons to public school children’s families and will provide cash assistance to those not included in the SAP list of beneficiaries.CONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
