1. Avi Siwa threatens to sue Vina Morales's boyfriend
ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWThe single mom took to Instagram to call out Marc Lambert, the father of her child and currently the boyfriend of singer-actress Vina Morales, for his insufficient financial support for their 1-year-old daughter. In her post (see above), Avi said that Marc's P28,000-a-month allowance for their child was not not enough, considering the amount of money he spends on cars, luxury vacations and expensive gifts for Vina. She had been honest about her financial situation with Marc when she got pregnant and believed Marc when he promised "to take care of everything." In the same post, Avi said there is no car or house for her and her child, and she is struggling to budget and supplement the monthly allowance Marc provides. The former FHM cover girl added she was speaking up for the first time about it to "empower other single mothers out there who are in the same situation, to have the courage to fight for their children's rights." She ended the post by saying she was ready to bring the issue to court, if need be. (pep.ph)

3. Two more Zika cases confirmed in PH, brings the total to 17
Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial confirmed yesterday via a press briefing that the country has two more new cases of Zika virus infection. One patient is a 27-year-old non-pregnant female from Mandaluyong City, while the other new patient is a 47-year-old male from Makati City. Both exhibited the usual symptoms of Zika, including rashes and fever with conjunctivitis or red eye. They both have recovered and like the other cases, were not hospitalized. "It is different from the virus that was discovered in South Africa, African region, as well as South America. It is presumed to be endemic in the Western Pacific region," Ubial said. According to GMA News, the DOH is investigating the possibility that this strain was present in the Philippines even before the outbreaks in Singapore and South America were reported. The first recorded Zika case in the country was before the outbreak of microcephaly-related Zika virus in Brazil. However, Ubila stressed that they are still investigating this theory and continues to urge to public to protect themselves against mosquito bites. As of now, there are 12 cases in Iloilo, one pregnant woman in Cebu, and one each for Makati, Mandaluyong, Muntinlupa, and Antipolo cities. (gmanetwork.com)
4. Conjoined twin boys successfully separatedADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWConjoined twins Jadon and Anais McDonald have endured 16 hours of surgery to separate their heads at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. Then the 13-month-old boys each underwent several more hours inside the operating room as doctors reconstructed their skulls. Jadon was the first of the boys to be released from the operating room, with his perfectly shaped head wrapped in white gauze. After more than five hours later, surgeons finished operating on Anias. Both boys were taken to the pediatric unit and reunited with their parents Nicole and Christian McDonald. Their parents opted for the procedure even if it involved major risks, including the possibility of death or long-term brain damage for one or both boys. However, had they chosen not to operate, there was an 80% risk for twins joined at the head to die of medical complications by age 2. The road to recovery will be critical for both boys. (cnn.com)
5. British reality TV star breastfed on live TVADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWBritish reality TV star Sam Faiers appeared on ITV morning talk show, This Morning With Phillip and Holly, and nursed her son Paul live on TV while being interviewed. Male host Phillip Schofield also pointed out that it was her choice to use a breastfeeding cover. When the baby finished nursing, Sam said, "I’m so sorry about this," while female host Holly Willoughby explained that it was the only opportunity for Sam to nurse her son that morning. "When it happens, it has to happen," Willoughby joked. Schofield, on the other hand, also said they were perfectly comfortable about it. Willoughby even held the baby so Sam could button-up her breastfeeding-friendly top and continue the interview. The baby was also not fussy anymore after feeding. While this is not the first time Sam did this on TV -- she was seen breastfeeding in her reality show -- the move was still met with universal praise from breastfeeding advocates. (people.com)
