  • 1. House okays bill simplifying remarriage for divorced Filipinos

    The House of Representatives approved after the third reading House Bill 5907, which seeks to amend the Family Code of The Philippines by allowing a Filipino to remarry after his or her foreign spouse has obtained divorce. Under the proposed law, a divorced Filipino only need to have the judicial decree of absolute divorce authenticated by the Philippine consul where the decree was obtained, and may be used as one of the requirements for the issuance of a marriage certificate.     2. Universal flu vaccine closer to reality
    Researchers from two separate U.S. teams have found success with an approach that zeroes in on a stable part of the flu virus. This new approach should remove the problem with the current flu vaccines, which must be given anew every year because they focus on the mutating part of the virus. As a sign of true progress, the studies will now test the new approach to humans to confirm that the method will still work. The proof-of-concept work is published in the Science Journal and Nature Medicine. Until then, it’s still a must to get the every-year flu shot consistently. (bbc.com)

    Women in Saudi Arabia can now register to vote starting this week —- a first in the history of the Arab country. For the first time, women will be allowed to vote and run in the elections in December of this year, marking a huge milestone in the push for women’s rights in a country that has been criticized many times for its treatment of women.
