  • 1. First 10 U.K. women given the go-ahead for womb transplants

    The first womb transplant in the U.K. is set to take place next year as a part of a clinical trial that will give 10 women a chance to carry their own babies to term. This ethical approval by the Health Research Authority is due to a successful procedure in Sweden that resulted to the birth of a baby boy using a transplanted womb. Embryos will be created and frozen using each of the women's eggs and sperm from their partner before having an operation to receive a womb from a donor. Only after 12 months of close monitoring will their embryos be transplanted in their new womb. (theguardian.com)

    2. Bianca Gonzalez starts maternity leave, shares meaning of baby's name
    At the baby shower the Cinema News team threw for her, the TV host announced that she's starting her maternity leave. She also explained in an interview with Pep.ph the name she and husband JC chose for their baby girl. "Lucia means light, nagkataon siguro the things that happened in the past months, ang gaganda. Si JC, he really wants a girl. Ako talaga, boy, kasi I have a kuya. This weekend, it’s my thirty-fourth week, it’s exciting, pero nakakakaba at the same time,” she said. (pep.ph)

    3. A first look at Bridget Jones Baby

    The third installment of the franchise that started with Bridget Jones Diary has started filming. Universal Pictures U.K. just released the first photo via Twitter of Renee Zellweger back as the titular character. Also back for the third film is her Mr. Darcy, played by Colin Firth, while Patrick Dempsey joins the duo in the new film with an undisclosed role. The story will still be based on the writings of Helen Fielding who wrote the books Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason, and is said to take place after the event in the said book and before the events in her other book Mad about A Boy. Bridget Jones Baby is set to premiere on September 16, 2016.  (people.com)


    4. New online tool claims to predict who's at risk for developing breast cancer
    Scientists have created an online calculator to help predict a woman's risk for developing breast cancer in the next five years. It only takes about a minute to calculate based on a woman's answers to just six questions based on age, ethnicity and race, family history, breast density, and if one has had a breast biopsy. The calculator was tested using data of over a million women ages 35 to 74 -- so it only applies to women within the age range and those who have not yet been diagnosed prior -- and the results were published it the Journal of Clinical Oncology.     5. China just opened a Communist Party theme park

    Yes, you read that right. The new theme park aims to highlight important facets of the Chinese Communist Party history and its "outstanding Communist deeds." The Chinese government felt they have to balance the theme-park industry after Disney Resort laid out plans to open in Shanghai next year, and in Beijing in 2019. The 3M-square-foot educational park has great Communist figures, sculptures, interactive experience areas, and galleries instead of slides and roller coasters. (huffingtonpost.com)
