5. PWDs not exempted from VAT
President Benigno Aquino III has signed Republic Act 10754, amending the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, to allow persons with disabilities (PWDs) to be exempted paying the Value Added Tax (VAT). It also grants a P25,000-annual income tax deduction to relatives who are caring for and living with a PWD. With the new law, PWDs are now exempt from paying VAT on transportation, medical and dental services, professional fees, medicines, funeral and burial services, charges in hotels, restaurants, and recreation centers, admission fees in cinemas, concerts, and other places of culture and leisure. They are still, however, required to pay the 12% VAT. (rappler.com)
