5. New blood test could help rule out pre-eclampsia
This new blood test might help doctors identify the pregnant women who are likely to develop pre-eclampsia, or high blood pressure during pregnancy. Suspected patients are often hospitalized and closely monitored to prevent serious risks for the mother-to-be and the baby in her womb, as pre-eclampsia can lead to low birth weight and pre-term delivery. The new reliable blood test could tell doctors which patient needs more attention. However, the test's results are only valid for the week after taking the test. (webmd.com)
