Baby care company Evenflo has issued a recall of around 56,000 of its Transitions 3-in-1 Combination Booster Seat car seats that were manufactured before January 29, 2016. "While seats with an internal harness are typically equipped with a CFA, the Transitions is the only Evenflo seat which allowed a child enough access to activate the Central Front Adjuster (CFA) and simultaneously loosen the harness. Without a snug harness restraining the child, the potential for injury in a crash increases," according to the company's statement. No injuries have been reported in connection with the issue, which was identified via reviewing consumer feedback. (huffingtonpost.com)
5. FDA warns consumers about Essure birth control device
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cited serious potential complications for the permanent birth control device Essure. Essure is a small coil that is inserted into a woman’s fallopian tubes, creating scar tissue that eventually blocks sperm from reaching eggs. According to the agency's press release, it is concerned about Essure's complications such as “persistent pain, perforation of the uterus or fallopian tubes from device migration, abnormal bleeding and allergy or hypersensitivity reactions." While the FDA isn't ordering the drug manufacturer Bayer to pull the product off the market, it has urged it to study the risk that the drug poses. (time.com)
