5. Makati City Health Department: No Zika-infected resident
"The male patient found positive for Zika virus, who is a non-resident [of Makati], is already well. Unlike dengue that can cause death, Zika is associated with microcephaly or babies born with small heads. It mostly affects pregnant women," Makati City health Officer Dr. Bernard Sese said in a statement. This was a clarification to an earlier Department of Health announcement that one of the two new confirmed Zika-infected patients was from Makati City. The 43-year-old male patient is actually a resident of Mandaluyong City but works in Makati. Mayor Abigail Binay, however, reiterated the DOH's directive to remain vigilant and participate in a cleanup drive to destroy breeding sites for mosquitoes.
