Top of the Morning: Why Denise Laurel Is Postponing Her WeddingPlus, presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte says yes to medical marijuana, Esang de Torres joins Singapore Les Miserables cast, and more!by Rachel Perez .
1. Denise Laurel plays down postponement of wedding
"If we could just have our wedding and everybody there together, we would do it in a heartbeat,” Kapamilya actress Denise Laurel said during the press conference for cable channel Lifestyle's new magazine talk show Modern Girls, where she serves as one of the hosts. She stressed that the delay was not a cause for worry. She and fiancé, pro baller Sol Mercado, wanted to plan it properly for themselves and her son Alejandro, who keeps asking when the big day is going to be. "He's Christian and I'm Catholic. So we are going to have a Christian and Catholic wedding. We respect each other and even we are different, 'yung pagmamahal namin sa Diyos ay hindi kami hinahati," she added. (abs-cbn.com)
2. Duterte is open to legalizing medical marijuana
President-elect Rodrigo Duterte spoke to reporters about his openness to the use of marijuana for medical purposes--never for recreational use. "Because it is really an ingredient of modern medicine. There are medicine right now being developed or already in the market that contains marijuana as a component but used for medical purpose," the Davao mayor said. This offers a glimmer of hope to the growing movement of parents who support medical marijuana to help their children who are suffering from neurodevelopmental disorders such as epilepsy and cancer. House Bill No. 04477, or the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act that aims to legalize the use of marijuana for medical purposes, had already been filed in Congress in 2014, and the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) also supports it.
