1. Yaya Dub and Lola Nidora are speakers at a Catholic Summit
According to an article posted by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), the group has invited Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola) and Yaya Dub (Maine Mendoza) as guest speakers at the Catholic Social Media Summit, a gathering of social media communicators, such as writers, bloggers, photographers. The summit will be held in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on October 10 and 11. The CBCB is one of the groups that commended the hit kalyeserye for its portrayal of real characters, including actor Alden Richards, Tidora (Paolo Ballesteros), and Tinidora (Jose Manalo), and for promoting "right marriage values." 2. Woman gives birth to 13-pound baby, sets record
Goga Bai, from Rajastan in northern India, gave birth to her son via C-section on Thursday, October 1, at the Shri Ganganagar district hospital. The baby boy weighed 13 pounds, setting a new record for heaviest baby boy born in India. The baby's size came as a surprise to Goga and her husband Ravinda Kumar, as well as the four doctors who delivered the baby. They suspect the baby's weight is influenced by the mom's diabetes. Initially, the baby had problems breathing, although mom and baby are now stable, but still under observation. The normal weight of a newborn baby in India is only five to seven pounds. 3. Barbie gets an edgy makeover
Barbie doll is all about reinventing itself these past few months. Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath has collaborated with Barbie's official Instagram account and created four new makeup looks for the doll in time for Paris Fashion Week. And they're edgier than we're accustomed to seeing the Mattel iconic doll. The four new makeup looks are reminiscent of the makeup artist's past creations which used sparkly dark and colorful makeup, all of which do not use Barbie's favorite color: pink. Suprisingly, the new makeup looks work well. (mashable.com)
4. Recall alert: General Mills' Cheerios
General Mills announced a recall of 150,000 cases of Cheerios and Honey Nutty Cheerios because they contain wheat flour instead of gluten-free oat flour. Gluten is a protein found in grains, such as wheat flour, and some people's bodies are not able to digest it properly, leading to damage to and inflammation of the small intestines. The recall, totaling 1.8 million boxes, are being retrieved from warehouses and store shelves, and is the result of an error in just one plant. See if you've purchased a recalled product on the link. 5. California approves the "Right to die" bill
California governor Jerry Brown has signed the controversial right-to-die bill that would allow doctors to "prescribe lethal doses of drugs to terminally ill patients who want to hasten their deaths." California is the fifth state to allow assisted suicide, joining states Oregon, Washington, Vermont, and Montana. The new law only allows assisted deaths for patients who are terminally ill, who have only six months to live, and are of sound mind. The new law might take effect as ealy as next year when the legislature adjourns its special session on health care. (ryot.org)
