SP Video of the Week: Pregnancy Simulator for Men

A strap-on pregnancy simulator was recently developed by a group of researchers at the Kanagawa Institute of Technology to give fathers or would-be moms a feel of what it’s like to “carry a baby in your womb”.

The system, aptly called the Mommy Tummy, makes use of sensor-equipped pulsators and a water balloon that expands as the “baby” – shown on a monitor - grows. The “pregnancy” which takes all of two minutes, simulates the weight and temperature of the growing fetus and even allows the tester to feel the baby moving from side to side with the use of the rubber sensors.

Moving forward, the researchers hope to develop a device that can be attached to both a male and his pregnant partner to allow the men to feel it also when the baby kicks.
