    by Rachel Perez .
  • Zika infection in the first trimester is more likely to cause Birth defects in babies

A new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showed that Zika infection during the first trimester of pregnancy puts an unborn baby most at risk to develop congenital defects such as microcephaly. Nearly one in 12 children whose mothers were infected with the mosquito-borne virus during the first trimester had Zika-associated birth defects. Among the women who had babies who had Zika-related birth defects, eight percent were infected in the first trimester; five percent were infected in the second trimester, and four percent were infected in the third trimester. The researchers noted, however, the baby developing birth defects caused by Zika is possible at any point in the mother’s pregnancy. Among the 2,549 women who had a possible Zika infection during pregnancy, 120 of them had babies with birth defects. (time.com)

Jake Ejercito’s lawyer optimistic  about settling joint custody case

In a statement to Pep.ph, Jake Ejercito's lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, said a joint custody case was likely to be settled since Jake and his former partner, Andi Eigenmann, only want the best for their daughter, 5-year-old Ellie. "I am very confident na kung ang dalawang panig ay malamig ang ulo at hindi po nadagdagan, and let’s not add fuel to the fire, magkakasundo po kami sa June 22,” he said. His positive outlook was based on Andi’s statement that she’s open to having joint custody of Ellie with Jake. “Wala naman daw problema sa kanya kung magkaroon ng visitation. Basta lamang po i-acknowledge ni Jake na siya yung ama,” said Topacio, adding that the mere fact that Jake wants joint custody of Ellie is already a statement that she, indeed, is his child. Free Wi-Fi in Edsa starting June 12
The Presidential Communications Operations Office said via a press release that the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), together with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), is set to launch “high-speed Internet services” on EDSA on Independence Day, June 12. Wi-Fi access in public places is one of the agendas of President Rodrigo Duterte, which he announced during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in 2016. The Internet on EDSA was made possible in part by “providing access points in all MRT stations and in between stations and enhancing infrastructures for cellular services” along the highway. The service is currently being tested today. (inquirer.net)
