10 Tips to Really Enjoying your Family's Summer VacationHere are reminders on how you and your family can get the most out of your summer vacation!
Summer vacation, when your kids are free from school, is the ideal time to have that one-week full-bonding time with your family. The problem is, while kids have a two-month vacation time, their parents don’t.
It’s hard enough to get a vacation leave from work so you can spend time with your family. It’s equally hard, once you get that vacation leave, to keep work and other vacation hitches from creeping in and ruining your hard-earned and well-deserved holiday.
But it’s not impossible. Here’s how to have a fun summer vacation, minus all the stuff that could ruin it:
1. Have a vacation fund.
Let’s face it: vacations cost money. You’ll need to spend on gas, bus or air fare, entrance fees, food, etc.
“We’re a frugal family,” you say? Well, are you really going to bring your kids to an amusement park and let them do nothing but watch other people enjoy the rides and all the yummy food while partaking of nothing themselves? Not likely. You’ll need a vacation fund for this.
“Nah, we’re having a staycation,” you say. “We’re gonna stay at home and eat popcorn and watch movies all day, for five days.”
Not a good idea. Read the next tip to find out why.
2. Go out of town.
For all that hoopla about staycations, we don’t recommend it because when you stay home, you retain the habits of home: You clean the house, do the laundry, nag the kids, and check your work e-mail. It does not matter how much you promised yourself you’re going to do nothing but relax and enjoy the kids; you’ll end up cleaning something and surfing the Web.
Some bonding time that’s going to be.
If you want a real vacation, you need to break out of the routine. To do that, you need to get out of the house: take day trips, or book yourself at a hotel.
Your vacation is your time to spend with the kids, not with your cleaning, and definitely not with the Internet. The best way to ensure that you really get away from it all is by putting the kids and your mate in the car and literally driving away from it all.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWCONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos1 of 4 NEXT
