If you’ve always wanted to bask in a sea of clouds but couldn’t because you have young kids in tow, then this secret spot in Tanay, Rizal called Treasure Mountain might be the family-friendly alternative to a hike up the mountains. The best part? You can drive all the way to the entrance!

What to do in Treasure Mountain

Treasure Mountain Educational Campsite is a privately-owned property that is around a couple hours’ drive from Manila. The destination has become popular for its effortless sea of clouds and the majestic view of the Sierra Madre mountain ranges.

Treasure Mountain offers a day tour for families who just want to see the clouds. According to its Facebook page, the best time to visit the mountain is at dawn — you can catch the sunrise and enjoy the breathtaking views. The occurrence of the sea of clouds is usually between 5 a.m. to 8 a.m., although it will depend on the weather condition for that day.

Since it opened in 2017, the campsite has seen various improvements, including its most recent addition: two pools — one for kids and one for adults — for visitors. It offers a serene mountain view with big and small cottages that can fit a maximum of 10 (small cottage) to 15 people (big cottage).

For more adventurous couples and families, they also have a high ropes obstacle course with an Instagram-worthy spider-web. To enjoy these attractions, however, you’d have to pay an additional fee on top of the entrance fee.

As Treasure Mountain is a campsite, you can stay overnight with the whole family. You have two lodging choices: you can bring or rent a tent or rent a kubo. If you’re feeling hungry, there’s a small restaurant located near the entrance, which offers breakfast choices like silog meals and special orders.

How to get there

If you have a private vehicle, are two routes that you can take to Treasure Mountain. The first route is via Marcos Highway. You’ll pass Masinag, Cogeo, Boso-Boso Resort, Foremost Farms, Palo Alto, and Garden Cottages. The way to Treasure Mountain will be on the left side of the road. Look for a waiting shed, which is the same jump-off as the Maysawa Circuit. From here, you are around 1.5 kilometers away from the site. Just go straight and turn right as you see signage for the campsite.

The other route is via Sampaloc in Tanay. Take Sampaloc road and pass by the street to Daranak Falls. Go straight until you arrive at a junction and then turn left. Follow the scenic road which will be around a 45-minute to 1-hour drive. You’ll pass by Sierra Madre Resort on your right, Ten Cents to Heaven on your left, then Pico de Pino on your right. Drive a little further and Treasure Mountain will be on your right side. Turn right when you see the waiting shed and go straight and right as you see the signage for the campsite.

You can also commute to Treasure Mountain using public transportation. Ride a van or jeepney going to Cogeo Gate 2 or Padilla. Get off at Gate 2 and ride a jeepney bound to Sampaloc, Tanay (the last trip is at 5 p.m.). This will take you to the same route as the Marcos Highway route. Get off at Sitio Maysawa, or at the waiting shed. From there, you may go on a 45-minute walk to Treasure Mountain or wait for a tricycle or habal-habal that you can ride.

Daytime entrance fee (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.) – Php150 for adults, and Php100 for children 10 and below
Big cottage (maximum of 15 people) – Php550

Corkage fees – Php350 for food, P50 per bottle for alcoholic beverages

Since Treasure Mountain is located in the, well, mountains, the weather can get cold especially during the early mornings and at nighttime. Make sure to bring your jackets and blankets. Remember to also “leave no trace”— always bring your trash with you in order to preserve the environment. Picking of flowers or plants is also not allowed.
