Hi, I need advice regarding "binat". I had my first son 2006, winter time. After one day of my delivery, natural birth, the nurse asked me to take a bath, so I did. My mom was so mad because I listened to the nurse. I had friends visited me so I wore regular clothes not pajamas or something that don't  look me sick. White and black Canadians don't know anything about binat or relapse.  Months and years past Im still okey. Now I have 8 months old baby. I get tried easily, my feet gets cold, now I'm sick. I went to my doctor and he said it's just a regular sickness.  But I still insist for general check up, urine, blood, x-ray. I'm so worried. It's so hard to get sick. My mom is in the phils right now and I'm living with my parents in law. I can't tell my mom about my situation because I don't want her to worry to much. Is there anything I can do about binat?

hi sis JirehRapha! welcome to SP!

as expected, almost most mothers in the philippines would give such a reaction.. that the reason why you are sick right now is because you did not heed their advices that you should have taken your first bath several days after your delivery or that you should have worn pajamas, tshirts, etc.

here is a link to the BINAT thread, hope this could be of help:

You are most welcome sis!!

actually, until now, there are times that i'm torn. i do not know whom i should listen to (though i'd already given birth 10 months ago): the OB or my mother (add my aunts, my sister, my sister-in-law, my mother-in-law).

because there are a lot of times that there is somewhat truth to the myth most mothers (in the phils.) believe in... like in the case of my mother.

after giving birth to me, she went back to work after a week of her delivery (NSD). she was a curtain maker.... and at that time, she was flooded with work that she needed to finish. she had no choice but to go back to work immediately, because, at that time, they only get their income from the proceeds of the curtains that she makes.

that's the culprit that she's blaming now.. had she allotted more time to recover from giving birth, she would not have arthritis, and rheumatism at her early 40's (she's turning 57 this year).

OT: are you still fluent in Filipino? nosebleed na ako eh! joke lang!!  ;D

Hi mommies.
I believe in BINAT kaya nung nanganak ako sobrang pinag iingat ako palagi ng mom ko at ni hubby. Madaming bawal like mapagod, mahamugan, maulanan. Dapat di magkakasakit like lagnat kasi mabibinat. Sabi nila pag nanganak kasi yung immune system bumababa.
Naniwala din ako sa BINAT kasi i seen a mom na nabinat and worst na nangyari is "nawawala sya sa sarili niya"
kaya sobrang ingat ginawa ko nung nanganak ako.
I even took vitamins para lang tumaas yun immune system ko. Confusing lang OB did not believe on BINAT.

but then, meron ako friend.. un mom niya... nabinat daw un according to her.  until now, ala siya lagi sa sarili niya.  i hate to say it pero, yun... me pagkabaliw na siya ngyn.

so mga mommy.. follow na lang tyo...  let's just think that we're doing those things to protect our precious angel!

Ako mga sis, whether you believe it or not, 1 year and 2 months na baby ko nagyon pero may binat parin ako, last occurrence was last week, 4 days siya. My binat is what they call 'binat sa hangin', I first experienced this when my baby was only 1 month old, nasa province kami, lakwatsera ako, pasyal ng pasyal na naka-motorcycle, ayon nabinat ako, as in punong-puno ng hangin katawan ko and nagLBM talaga ako, as in super hirap.
