Title: Depo-Provera
Post by: mommywalrus on November 05, 2009, 09:49:12 pm
hi mommies! I gave birth last June and had my first shot of DMPA just this October. My menstruation just came today. What should I expect? Should I expect heavy bleeding? What're your experiences while on Depo-Provera? Curios mommy lang. :)

hi mommywalrus,

i experienced DMPA, after i gave birth to my 2nd child June 2000. My OB said that depends on my cycle at reaction with my body hormornes ang injectable. Some may experience heavy to light menstruation within the period of 3 months.
Since 3 months protection sya, i experience after she give me shot Sept,,,the next month wala akong menstruation(Oct) then the following month nagkaron na ako with light flow....until nag sspotting na lang sya. The doctor gave me only 1 shot since my hubby is seaman usually 2-3 months langang vacation niya here. Kaya the following year na ulit ako magpa inject...

Sometimes heavy flow sya abot 5 days..minsan light lang and it last sometimes 2 weeks...natakot din ako minsan kasi parang di nauubos, hehe puro spotting...Nakaka iritate dahil palagi akong naka wear ng pantyliner. Since regular naman ang menstruation ko after the 3 months protection eh ika 4 or 5 months back to normal na ulit ang mens ko.
 ;)

Thanks for your reply. One of the perks ata ng DMPA yun. :)

ako din sis observe ko pa effect niya, i had my shot last saturday lang. sabi ng OB depende daw talaga ang effect sa reaction ng body sa gamot and sa cycle syempre ng mens natin. i think yung sa dysmenorrhea issue mo eh wala pang kinalaman ang injectable jan. sabi kasi ng OB ko may possibility daw talagang mawala ang dysmenorrhea after giving birth. laking pasalamat ko narin kasi sobrang pahirap sa akin yan every month. hehe.

hi mommies,

i gave birth last august 2008. CS ako at hindi na ako bumalik pa sa OB na nagpa-anak sakin kasi sobrang sama ng dinanas ko sa kanya. but dahil hindi nako nakapag consult about family planning, i got pregnant and miscarried january 2009. after that, wala pa din ako contraceptive kasi umalis naman ang hubby ko who is a seafarer. july 2009,i had the depo shot. palpak kasi talaga ako sa pag inom ng gamot so ito binigay sakin ng ob ko. after i had the shot, naging lagi masakit ulo ko and likod ko. then i had pimples. sa madaling araw lagi akong gutom. pero ang nakakainis, after mga 2 weeks nagstart na ako mag spotting. at hindi na sya tumigil, palakas ng palakas for 3 weeks. went back sa ob, she gave me meds para daw magstop ang spotting/bleeding. took the meds and hindi man nagstop, humina naman so ok na rin. october un expiration ng shot pero september umalis na yun asawa ko, so hindi na ako ulet nagpa inject. hindi pa ako nagkakameron ng regular/normal na menstruation since then. from very light spotting to none talaga. ngayon, uwi na pala un hubby ko ng 3rd or 4th week ng march. kaya dami ko questions..

1. can i have the depo shot again kahit yung last shot ko was july last year pa and i never had my period since then?

2. is it true na mahirap na ulet magbuntis kapag nagdepo? i want to have 2 more kids pa sana.

3. is there a way to really stop spotting while on depo? kasi diba nakakairita din na everyday ka meron? mas mahirap din mag contact..

thanks in advance mommies!  :)

safe po ba ang depo. palpak kasi talaga ko sa pag-inom ng pills at ayoko na talaga mabuntis ulit. we can't afford to have another one again. (other side of the story na un kung bakit) Nanganak ako last December 12, 2009 lang. hindi pa ko bumabalik ng ob except nung December 22, 2009 nung nilinis niya yung dressing ng tahi ko since CS ako. I had my menstruation last February 24,2010.

thanks.

@ sis nuna,

1. can i have the depo shot again kahit yung last shot ko was july last year pa and i never had my period since then?

-i think you can, as long as you are sure you are not pregnant. you may ask your Ob about this kasi usually, may mga tests na i-rarun yung OB mo just to make sure.

2. is it true na mahirap na ulet magbuntis kapag nagdepo? i want to have 2 more kids pa sana.
- no. depo shots does not affect a woman's fertility.

3. is there a way to really stop spotting while on depo? kasi diba nakakairita din na everyday ka meron? mas mahirap din mag contact..
-yes. may nirereseta pong gamot para magstop yung excessive bleeding. Usually naman sis, for the first three months lang ganyan. on the fourth month, dapat wala ng breakthrough bleeding. pero kung dirediretso talaga yung bleeding mo, baka hindi hiyang sa iyo ang shots.

hi sis,

Any type of hormonal contraceptive may or may not give you mood swings, weight gain, head aches, nausea, and/or pimples.

You may refer to my blog posts, review ko yun both on pill and injectables. If it will help you in any way, please refer to the links below:

^ wow thanks!

you're welcome!

Injectables PROs:

1.) To some women, nag-stop talaga ang period.
4.) You do not need to remember taking it everyday, and at the same time. You just have to go back to your OB or a health care specialist every 3 months or when your shot will expire.
5.) Hindi siya nakakaabala sa love making.
6.) May be safe for breastfeeding mothers when used as directed.

CONs:

3.) Mood swings.
4.) You may be at a higher risk of bone loss.
5.) It can cause irregular bleeding to other women.
6.) Loss of libido
7.) preggy symptoms.

^ very nice thirdysmom.  ;)

tsaka totoo yung sa calcium, kase when my OB used injectables on me, she also prescribed daily intake of calcium.

tapos dun sa appetite, yung iba nga totoo nagkakagana. ako baligtad, nawawalan ako gana kumain minsan. which is good. haha para pumayat naman ako. hehe other than that, yun lang effects nakikita ko with my 3yrs with depo.

Hi mommy keih,

Thank you.

Sorry for the confusion  mga moms :)

Title: Re: Depo-Provera
Post by: keih liwanag on April 22, 2010, 04:11:20 pm
^ other than that sis, wala nako napansing changes sakin. sa iba marami. yung migraine ko, still there. hehe di nawala. pero sabi ng OB ko, some women daw after giving birth medyo naglelessen ang migraine attacks. so i guess dahil sa nanganak ako hindi dahil sa injectables.

^ talaga? thanks sa info. so kailangan ko na sundan daughter ko to lessen hahaha. in my case naging worst because of pills for 2 years kasi yung pinakamalakas na meds na gamit ko ngayon bigay ng neuro and it last for days pa whew! kaya takot na ako sa mga contra hehe

Thanks!

Post by: thirdysmom on April 23, 2010, 01:02:14 pm
Hi sis nhojiaz,

If you are religiously taking your pills, you can have the injection anytime you want. No need for you to stop or wait for your period. as long as regular yung pills mo, hindi ka nagmiss at lalong hindi ka buntis. pero some women prefer to have it during the first 4 days of their period.

^depende po yun sa brand. The cheapest I know is Depo Trust. It costs P107.00 sa mercury. Other brands like depo-provera may cost you P500-P1000. But as far as I know Depo provera is already phased out.

sisses i-badly need your help!

this is the scenario: sad my first shot mar or apr. supposedly babalik ako for my 2nd shot june 12. di po ako nkablik. sa 3months na yun like other moms me mga side effects na nararamdaman weight gain, headaches, mga masasakit na buto, spotting pero di ako nawalan ng period every month. after june 12 ag "churva"
kami ni husband between june 13-19 pero we used condoms kasi nga aware ako na til june 12 lang effect ni injectables. 20-25 bakamte ang beauty kasi nsa cebusi husband. june 26 na ulit na kami nagka "churvahan" but still we used condoms...

now,  i had my last perod june 8-10 or something like that. regular ang period ko before my 1st shot. and in betwenn sa 3mos na yun naging irregular pero meron pa rin every month medyo delay nga lang. based sa last period ko dapat meron na ko period ngayong july 2nd week...ang problem WALA PA! sobrang natatakot ako na bka positive kung mag PT ako. kaya todo research ako kung me effect pa ba yung injectbles kaya delay ang period ko o in-denial stage ako dahil i really cannot afford to have our 3rd baby!!! 1yr old pa lang bunso ko...

please enlighten me sisses.... especially those who experienced the same thing...  :'(
Title: Re: Depo-Provera
Post by: thirdysmom on July 11, 2010, 09:20:12 pm
^hi sis,

most women experience delay on their period right after getting off the depo shot. It doesn't matter how long you've been having it or how many shots you've had. It is possible na nadedelay lang siya dahil yung contents nung depo shot does not wear off easily sa katawan nating mga babae. It may take weeks, months or gaya nung iba--years ang binilang before mgkaroon ng regular period. Nagkaspotting ka ba in between the end of June and second week of July? Kung oo, then that's the period you've been waiting for. Pero kung hindi ka din nag-spot, you can wait for a good week or two, then have yourself tested using a PT (para makasiguro lang).

You mentioned when you made love, you used barrier naman di ba? I dont think you should be worried provided that you used a backup method.

Dont stress yourself too much sa paghihinty ng period mo. That can also delay it..

I hope I've helped you.. God bless! :)

An update to my Depo shot experience... :)

I have been on Depo since last year, around early November ata. I had some bleeding that month that lasted for two weeks. Then after that................WALA NA. As in! I don't know if it's because I'm still breastfeeding but I haven't gotten my period back. It's been almost a year. Mukhang ganon ang effect sa ibang ladies on the shot.
And... bumochog ako ng sobra since last year. I lost weight agad after giving birth. Again, I don't know if it's because I'm breastfeeding. :)) lol
I also get migraine attacks, like once or twice a week. I don't know if it's because of Depo or tumaas lang ang grado ng mata ko. :)) But I've had migraines even before I got pregnant. Mas madalas lang ngayon.
But I guess it's better safe than sorry. :)) Gotta wait three years before we make a baby again! CS mommy kasi ako. :)

I just to ask if the Depo is advisable to breastfeeding mom's like. I choose Depo as my contraceptive but i have this feeling na hindi ko maintindihan kung bakit ang bilis ko ma galit tapos ang di ako nag men's since nanganak ako. kasi after 1 month ako nanganak nag pills ako pero nag spotting lang tapos nag change ako ng Depo pero di talaga ako nag mens. 9 months na si baby ngayun. I would like to ask your advices mga mies. Thank you!

Ask your doctor kung ok lang ba o nakakasama for you ang hindi magka period because of the depo shot. Noon kasi they say ok lang daw that's why even DOH encourages it pero hindi ko lang sure kung may updated nang studies on this.
I stopped injectables kasi with age, nakaka deplete ng calcium sa bones. I did enjoy the years na hindi ako nag na-napkin.

Title: Re: Depo-Provera

The best contraceptive I'd say is Natural Method. Walang side effect, hindi kailangan magpakunsulta sa duktor about any abnormality sa health, sa pakiramdam na dala ng artificial hormones found in artificial contraceptives and the best part is, mas receptive ang body and mind sa intimacy. Down side is kelangan pagaralan, you need to keep track of your cycle and determine your fertile days pero hindi naman ganon kahirap yon. Even when taking artificial contraceptives, pills man, injectable o implant, kelangan ding pagaralan, hindi yung take ka lang ng take tapos magtataka ka bakit nagiiba o masama pakiramdam mo diba?

There's more I can say about it but that would be for another thread. We have a separate thread on Natural Family Planning (https://www.smartparenting.com.ph/parentchat/index.php?topic=9372.0) and about condoms (https://www.smartparenting.com.ph/parentchat/index.php?topic=9389.msg885786#msg885786).

Kasi in my case I'm a depo user i wanted do change another contraceptive. Pero the problem is di pa ako nagkaroon kahit kelan tapos mag lalast yung depo ko is ngayung October 8 pa, puedi ba yun? pa kabit agad para lang safe? or dapat talaga mag mens?

Hello Abigail and welcome to Parent Chat. Only your OB-Gyne can say if pwede or hindi, siya naman ang maglalagay ng IUD sayo so she will explain.
I haven't thought of using IUD yet but my thoughts are (from a non-doctor's POV) since in effect pa yung depo mo, you still got the depo hormones working in you. Kung magpapalagay ka ng IUD na in effect pa yung Depo mo and the IUD will start releasing its hormones along with the depo hormones you still got, hindi kaya magresult sa hormonal imbalance? Please ask your doctor about this concern and I hope you can update us here.

Yun pong pagkahilo at bigat ng pakiramdam is a side effect limited not only to depo shots but also with the use on any contraceptive kasi po artificial hormones yan. Kung hindi na ninyo ma take, better go back to your OB. Maybe depo is not for you or baka iba na po ang cause. Goodluck po.

@Maricar,
My doctor said it's ok na hindi datnan. But after a few years I switched to natural and that's another story.

Mommy Dette, kumusta na po?
