dami kagat ng baby ko, not sure who the culprits are. im suspecting ants, pero lagi naman malinis yung bed namin. bed bugs? not sure kasi almost one year pa lang yung mattress namin. hindi din naman sya mosquito bites. worried ako kasi aside sa nangingitim, it leaves unsightly marks sa skin ni baby. gusto ko try off lotion pero baka hindi pa pwede sa 1-year old kid like her. would like to ask recommendations po sana kung anong effective insect repellant ang puwede ko gamitin sa kanya and san sya puwede bilhin if ever... thanks..

Hi Amilah! Like your baby, Mika i also a favorite target of mosquitos  :(  There used to be an Enfant anti-mosquito lotion safe for kids but they stopped producing that na. Other mom's I've talked to said the all-natural citronella mosquito repellant from Ilog Maria in Tagaytay http://www.ilogmaria.com (http://www.ilogmaria.com) is effective too. And you can buy them online. But they don't spray it on their babies skin. They spray it around the house as in the curtains, bedsheets, etc. Giga also has natural mosquito repellants. I think you can find those at Tiendesitas.

I personally haven't tried it but I probably will. Right now I'm using another all-natural citronella solution for her which I found in Shopwise. I can't remember the name but it says no-DEET.

Here's something you might find useful too: http://mom.exchange.ph/index.php/2006/09/18/mosquito-repellant/ (http://mom.exchange.ph/index.php/2006/09/18/mosquito-repellant/)

Hope this helps!  :)

we use GIGA Healthy Home Citronella - Natural Insect Repellant Spray... we first saw it at Tiendesitas.. then nakabili din kami sa Watson's... safe for young kids..

advise din ng pedia is to keep your baby's skin moisturized with any baby lotion (we use Aveeno or Nivea baby)

Now I agree with you all moms!! Bought it at Tiendesitas months ago and it's super effective! Yung Lemongrass nga lang kinuha ko instead of citronella since mas kayaya aya sa pang-amoy ko yung Lemongrass. Pero for 150 bucks, sulit na sulit sya. Thanks for the recommendation moms!!

I followed an advice of another on-line Mom. I use ordinary baby lotion on my kids at bedtime. It's just to mask their scent so bedbugs won't bite. I think often use of off lotion is bad. What I did is mix the baby lotion with a little baby cologne para mas ayaw ng bedbugs yung scent. So far effective siya. I've been doing it for 3 weeks and they don't get a single bite yet. I also put PJs and socks on them and a bit of lotion left on my palm after application, I wipe my hands on their PJs to get their clothes scented too.

I'm using off lotion for kids it can be use outdoor and indoor, pero during bed time i use off lotion overtime ok naman sya and really mabango it doesn't smell like medicine plus it also moisturizes my baby's skin.

o diba mommy jazz ok yung lotion alone.... :D yun din observation ko before,sa ngaun kc i stopped applying lotion para umeffect yung ointment na binibigay ko kay baby sa dermatitis at dun nagstart yung insect bites niya unlike before nung lagi ko siya nilalagyan ng lotion,ni isang kagat wala.it really masks their scent.plus pang pa smooth pa ng skin. :D

our pedia said that aside from the smell the body temperature is the most appealing to insect. he reccommended us to use johnson body warming oil on the body. it's effective to repel mosquito and other insects. ;)

Thank God for this thread. I've been scouring supermarkets' isles for days now looking for natural insect repellants. My baby has bites from unknown insects as well and they're leaving "pantal" on her skin. I already vacuum cleaned our room as a precautionary measure. So far, no new bites yet. But I'm not taking chances. hehe. Thanks mommies for the suggestions!

So far wala pa akong nakikitang insect bite sa skin ng baby namin since we used the Victoria herbal laundry soap. I guess the scent of it (milder scent ng citronella/mansanilla) repels mosquito. Aside from that its mild on babies skin wala ng rashes and baby ko. Eh dito pa sa house namin sobrang malamok. try it lang po it might work din for your kids. ;)

Hi Mommies,

my daughter is using NO BITES BAR from BY NATURE handmade soaps. It only costs P115/100g bar but works great on her skin. It's all natural, moisturizing/non-drying and deet-free!  ;)

i got it at cash and carry grocery. I'm sure other grocery has it as well. It's just a few pesos more compared to perla but i like this better since its herbal. By the way super ok din yung powder na victoria pangbabad sa mga fabric na may stains.

To JAVVY820
Please check the ELICA cream. I have used that to my son when he was an infant. Very effective nga mawala insect bite marks. But you shouldn't use it for more than 3 days coz may STEROID yan. Apply very thinly lang. That is why I switched to Chicco ZANZA NO insect repellant. Now I use J&J lotion ok naman 4 my toddler. Minimal bites na lang.

Where po exactly in Tiendesitas can I buy this? I used off pero nothing seemed to be wrong with my son skin except that maybe it makes his skin a bit dry. I didn't know Off could be harmful to kids, my son is 1 year and 3 months by the way.

Hi! Mga Mommies just want to share what i've learn from one of the seminars i attended regarding this off lotion. To see is to believe! For a test: in a styrofoam glass or cup put a minimal amount of this off lotion in one side of this styrofoam. Put a mark and put in a place na hindi siya magagalaw. See the result after 5 days. See it for yourself. It gives me goosebumps talaga! Kaya mga sis hindi na ako nag dalawang isip bumili nitong BGone lotion and am so thankful kay sis sassyennaid na nakita ko sa thread ng items for sale itong BGone. Effective siya not only sa mosquitoes okay din for diaper rash and any skin diseases kasi multi-purpose lotion ito. You can visit her website sassyennaid. multipy.com for more info about the product.

im not sure where i have read about OFF lotion being too strong to use for kids. we tried the styro cup experiment using the OFF orange and green..even a day or two the cups continued to 'melt' sa part w/ off lotion.
right now im using human heart organic bug spray..not quite sweet smelling like OFF and medyo oily rin but it serves the purpose, effective and cheap P100 for 100ml

san po nakakabili nung GIGA.. my pedia doesnt advise ANTIBAC.. me skin asthma kasi si Gab mashado daw matapang yun for her.. natatakot ako magpapahid ng kung ano ano.. Cetaphil lotion, cleanser and soap lang talaga sha.

or maybe baka me plant na anti mosquito?

but if you're worried, take it from our experience, we've been using off lotion since they were babies. kahit below 1 year old.  but before they turned one, super nipis lang ang pinapahid.  just for the scent to work.

hi sis! agree ako sa paggamit ng organic/natural insect repellent.  dahil walang chemicals.

i sell human heart nature citronella bug spray (oil based), ipapahid lang sa katawan. meron din akong bugslock mosquito band repellent, which you can put on the wrist or ankle of your 1 y/o.   citronella din ang active ingredient. :)

hope this helps.  ;)

Hi fellow Mommies!

Im new here and this is my first time everto post anything. The reason why I broke my silence is because I just really wanna share with you my discovery regarding this topic :) I have been using OFF lotion since my daughter was 2 yrs old (she's now 4 1/2) and just this January I have noticed na sobrang dami na talaga Mosquito bites niya even in the Daytime. this really alarmed me alam nyo naman Dengue is around :( So 2 weeks ago I searched the net for an alternative. I stumbled upon Cerana Farms Multiply Account. They offer natural/organic products which include Mosquito Repellant made from Virgin coconut oil..I definitely was interessted, I inquired about the product and learned na di rin pala OK yung OFF coz chemicals involved.. SSo I gave it a try. they have a store in Tiendesitas so I picked it up from there..Naku mga Mommies, first night pa lang ang laki ng difference! medyo oily sya at first pero after a few seconds ang super smooth ng skin ng baby ko! the smell is Mild ?Citronella and coconut oil. Mabango sya and hindi naakairritate :)

2 weeks na since we started using it and as in ZERO na mosquito bites ni baby! :) Its 140pesos for a 100grams. medyo steep but for its organic/natural ingredients and Efficacy..It's super worth it!

Hi Ms. Stefie! I haven't tried any of those you've listed. What we've been using is Para'Kito.

I got a wristband and clip as a raffle prize in a Glam-O-Mama's event. The pellet that you insert in either one is effective for 15 consecutive days. It has a citronella scent that I like. It's effective naman and I like that you don't need to put anything directly on your baby's skin. My baby's skin kasi is quite sensitive. I just put the clip on my baby's bag or part of the stroller that is out of her reach. Or I let the person carrying my baby wear the band on his/her foot. Yun nga lang, it's quite expensive. A clip or wristband retails for P750-800 while the pellet which comes in packs of 2, costs P400.

Hi mommies,

I've used the following:

-A battery-operated mosquito repelling gadget bought for 500 pesos from Hobbes and Landes. I lost the packaging so I can't recall the name, but it's about the 2 inches in size, I pin it on my baby's clothes, and it makes a beeping sound at regular intervals, supposedly using waves to repel mosquitos. It's chemical free, and not used on the skin, but I am not certain if its technology is completely safe - but it seems effective as my daughter has less bites when she's using it.

- I also use Citronella patches that I put on her clothes. I buy them from the grocery, or Ace hardware. But now that I'm pregnant and sensitive to smells, I find it too strong. My daughter loves their animal designs, and I know it's effective because even I get repelled with the strong odor...and her mosquito bites are much less now.

- As for organic sprays I've used: Indigo baby "Shoo Fly Don't Bother Me"; and "Fragrance Pharmacy" mosquito repellent, and Human Nature Citronella Spray; all from the Echo Store. I enjoy browsing their shelves for many organic and fair trade options, and Deet-free options.

Hindi sia effective for baby. So i tried it, wala talaga! Hindi effective.
Ok kaya ang Bioneem? I don't want to use OFF lotion talaga, so I'm still scouting for an organic product better than this GIGA thingy

GIGA is NOT effective for us. Sayang lang talaga. madali ko naubos kasi I have to reapply like every 30 mins or less dahil mabilis mwala ang effect. I have tried it myself, and nangangati pa din ako dito samin. Dami kasi lamok dito ewan ko ba

@glam_mommy........if you are going to use insect repellent lotion....sa damit mo lang ilagay.

Areas on focus:

leg part: shorts/pants/socks
neck part:  sleeves/colar

Just make sure hindi ma-irritate si baby like pagnalagayan ang mittens tapos nagkamot si baby....its a NO NO.

yup Bioneem is effective for my Dea.  maski pa every morning ko lang nilalagyan si baby, it will last till evening na.  though medyo pricey siya compared sa ibang organic insect repellant, sulit naman at mas matagal maubos kc once a day ko lang inaapply.

dati nung lamok lang problem ko with my twins i just use a drop of citronella oil on their clothes, i bought it at ilog maria since amoy lang naman ang need to ward off the mosquitos but when we moved medyo marami trees and halaman sa paligid ng bahay namin so we needed to ward off other insects too such as ants. maganda bioneem oil dyan, di siya gaano masakit sa nose like citronella and kapag nakalimutan mong lagyan ulit at nakagat si baby or may other irritations it's also good to relieve those other skin irritations.

Messy Bessy- at least it's organic. Parang matapang yung off lotion eh. My pedia warned me against using too much off lotion.

As an alternative, you can use candles to keep away mosquitoes. @chinadoll mentioned citronella, I use it at home as well.

i also use human nature citronella, especially on school days... very happy with it... before i discovered HHN, when my son was under 1 year old, we used No Bite... okay naman kasi mild enough... need to re-apply lang every few hours...

Good thing I found this post? My pedia recommended CALIFORNIA BABY but is so pricey kaya we bought CHICCO  which is almost 60% cheaper pero allergic si baby, he immediately developed skin rash after application of the mosquito repellant spray. I want to try that NO BITE product. Saan merong South Star Drugstore? Thanks! ;)

My kids use Citronella Oil from Human Nature din.  One time naubusan ng stocks un kinukuhanan ko so we tried the one from Healthy Options.

In some cases na matagal sila outdoors, like sa park and nun nag-field trip sila, I use mosquito patch.  Yun nga lang, matapang yung amoy niya

Hi Mommies,

I use Guard Insect Repellant po for my daughter. Pag di available po yung guard, I purchase Nosquito. Very effective naman. Green cross is also good kaya lang nakaka-dry ng hands ko. :(

I use OG protect and HHN bug spray

OG protect - more refreshing scent as compared to Human nature, not sticky/oily and cool on the skin, also natural and safe for kids
HHN - stronger scent - i use at night para no need to reapply

Mosquito Repellant patch sa Watsons/Mercury. My son's skin is quite senstive kaya I don't wanna take risks baka magkaroon pa ng allergic reaction sa kanya.

My kids like the Green Cross Active Protect better than OFF!. Yung Off greasy talaga and amoy Baygon.

Hi mga mommies,

Before I am using Off lotion, kase yun lang naman common sa market. But its not that effective, parang 2 hours lang nag te take effect. so result dame pa din kagat ng lamok ni baby.

Now I am using, BIONEEM LOTION, organic sya, moisturizer lotion sya and insect repellant na rin sya at the same time, 9 hours effectivity.

Then, I am using BIONEEM INSECT BITE OINTMENT para sa kagat ng lamok or ng mga insekto, VERY VERY effective, kapag pinahid mo mawawala na pangangati pamumula at pamamaga. kinabukasan wala ng mark ng bite.

We were using off lotion before kaso i think masyadong matapang at hindi ganoon kaeffective that's why I switch to green cross insect repellent, iyong 10hours protection. So far, okay naman sya at sakto lang yung odor niya para sa 2yr old girl ko.

@sis JhengTan: Saan mo nabili iyong Bioneem lotion mo and how much?

I use yung giga insect repellant lemongrass. Medyo kaamoy ng nenuco and denenes peromas strong lang.

Giga is our insect repellant for 3years now. My baby is so okay with it. As in no bite talaga.
Dito na sya at kami rin nahiyang. Don't have plans of changing it.
I even recommend it to friends and relatives.

I'm using HHN bug shield. It's effective as long as you put it on all exposed areas. Minsan kasi parang matalino yung lamok alam kung saang part ang walang repellent hehe  :P
