Hi Mommies!

Just want to ask if you know of a store specializing in costumes? My son, Jared, and niece, Lyanna, are both in Nursery and they're representing Korea during their UN celebration on Oct. 27.

So far, I've been browsing the net for pics of Korean Hanbok or the traditional dress so I could have it customized na lang by a dressmaker.

It would be better and easier sana if we can just buy ready-made dresses.

theres a store in quiapo that sells UN costumes..complete pati accesories..its along Palanca street near sm quiapo, actually tabi tabi sila dun:-)

may idea ba kayo saan pwede makabili ng South Korean costumes/kimono na pang boys.... United Nations Day kasi nila on Oct 22 and that is the one assigned to him....i have no idea where to look....

@stayhomemom, Sorry po pero walang costume ang France. I searched on this before at nahirapan ako. In my search, I found out that France doesn't have an official national costume, parang USA.
Franch dresses depends on the social status (peasant or aristocrat), era and region.
You can go for those worn by Kings/nobles, yung may white curly wig, coat, ruffled tie, black pants na hanggang tuhod, white knee socks and closed leather shoes. Female version nun is ala-Marie Antoinette.

Another topic I didn't include in my article is checking out Ukay-ukay. This is what I do (and will do again this year) when I need to look for clothes that can match the costume tapos accessorize at alter ko nalang ng konti. There are issues kasi with UKs, hindi appealing sa lahat.

My daughter's country this year will be Spain. I checked stores in Quiapo, nasa P400 yung medyo maganda but not totally pretty for me. I still find it plain. I highly recomend Maning's, (check URL given on my previous post) marami silang RTW UN gowns na stand out talaga ang bata and these you can't find in SM stores.

But for me, stick to DIY ako.

Thanks for all the inputs..
I went to Quiapo to check out the stores but I was a bit disappointed with the fabric and the quality of the Korean costumes. I decided instead to have the costumes custom-made..
All the efforts paid off since my son and my niece were declared this year's Mr. & Ms. UN at their day care..

This one I made with Ukay-Ukay clothes. The top is a long sleeved red printed velvet. I sewed raffles from buy2take1free clothes fr shopwise for P60.

The skirt is recycled from her italy costume last year which I put together from UK clothes. She grew taller this year so I just added length to the skirt.

My son will be joing Poem interpretation for their school foundation day, The tittle of the POEM is LittleSEED and im thinking talaga kung anong bagay, and the same unique For now im planning to put coffee bean picture dun sa poloshirt niya na black then lagyan ko sya ng headress na leaves. Sa 24 na po yung Foundation Day. Please mga Mommies yung may mga creative skill naman please share it.

Sis mukhang maganda kung dagdagan mo ng parang flower pot yung shorts or pants niya. Brown would be nice kung hindi na magagawa para lang may maganda yung effect. :)

Mommy France, yes, its my 1st plan to wear him a flower pot kaso lang baka mahirapan sya gumalaw dun sa mga action niya kapag nag ppoem na sya, Mommy kylerrhys, nag print na lang me ng mga seeds ka size ng 1 bondpaper then i laminate it , pero im planning to put lang sa front , siguro nga maganda din pag meron sa likod, then gumawa na lang ako ng head dress na leaves made of felt paper. and it looks okay na ... THANKS mga mommies

For the skeleton frame of the seed, you can use a native"duyan". make holes for head and arms, cover with cloth and make a plant sprout hat
The pea costume illustrated on the 3rd picture is easy. Make 3 balls covered with felt cloth and sew it on the front.

mga mommies na nakagawa na nito, pano ba magstart? or may nabibli na bang ganito ngayon? native hat yung naisip ko tapos decorate na lang. kaso dapat comfortable daughter ko while wearing it. di pa naman ako magaling mag art art hehe.. pa suggest naman po. TIA.

my son just finished their nutrition month program yesterday. My hubby ang gumwa ng headress miya..actually improvised lang siya dahil made up of folder & fruits & vegetables cutouts. bumili lang me ng fruits & vegetable chart tapos un na ginawa niya collage. Yung folder mineasure niya sa head ng son ko na parang sun visor.. yung ibang classmates niya esp un mga girls mostly parang hat ng magician ang shape & option mo if you want na plastic fruits (un pang display sa ref or table) or un cutouts lang..hope this helps  ;)

My son's teacher did not inform me na they will have their own activity pala, i thought walang activity for nursery. Wala na akong maisip na ibang gawing hat, Im not creative sa ganung bagay. I rather buy Hahaha! pero walang mabibiling ganung hat dito samin kaya I crocheted a  pumpkin hat nalang. There are many patterns  available online for fruit/veggies crochet hat pero halos lahat pang girls, luckily I found a pumpkin pattern.

Its free but you have to adjust nalang because the free pattern fits 0-3M lang ata.

sis..kahit anong materials ba ang required?  if you have no time to prepare try to make braided string beans or SITAW ... then iikot mo yun braided sitaw sa taas ng head ni baby and fasten with ribbon... :)

yan yung nagawa namin. native hat tapos design na lang. nahirapan ako with the wires kaya nagpatulong ako sa kapitbahay namin hehe. yung pagtahi naman, mother ko gumawa. nabigyan kasi kami ng 1 week na preparation pa kasi napostpone yung program dahil sa bagyo. worth it naman ang effort at puyat. best in headdress siya, kinder level. :) kahit pala wala akong hilig sa art, matututo talaga pag may mga ganyang activity sa school.

try to google for DIY costumes. baka meron kayo sa bahay ng materials and kaunting glue or tahi lang kuha na. mas makakamura ka pa. medyo mahal ang pagawa, rtw or rent e.

Sa Maning's po, they have costumes and head dresses na hindi exactly Mongolia but very close. If I remember it right, ppang spanish  matador yung hat na meron but you can use it for the same purpose.
You can go for any chinese top tapos patahi nalang po kayo ng oversized pants. Manings is a lace and tela store. One-stop shop na yun. They also accept "patahi" so I advice that you go there ASAP kasi rush loaded sila sa order pag costume season.

Ako naman working on my son's Brazil outfit. I make my own para orig at tipid. I make use of old clothes and sometimes go to ukay-ukay to find materials I can put together. Will post his picture here once the costume is done.

about a year ago i found some shops in Palanca St., in Quiapo that sell children's costumes, including animal costumes and headdresses... i'm just not sure if they have bugs :)

Anywyay, best you go for DIY costumes so it's not too heavy on the pocket. You can use make up and existing clothes to create a costume fast. You can go to the link to see how easy it is to dress your child as a zombie, Edward Scissorhands or any other character you want with a little creativity.

This year, my girl wants Hawaiian while my boy represented Brazil. Of course labor of love ng Mommy.
I jazzed up my boy's dark long sleeved polo ang old black pants. My daughter's skirt is made of straw, meron kaming malaking rolyo ng straw so ginamit ko yun. The flowers were made from cut out plastic bags.

Jogging pants lang yung suot ng boy ko. I covered the side stripes with black electric tape. Yung skirt naman  ng girl ko dinugtungan ko lang. I realized she grew 10 inches tall since she last used this skirt.

a bought Ate Yancy's filipiniana costume sa Nova market last year and repeat performance yung costume niya this year's Buwan ng Wika celeb.  change lang ang slippers and braided land ang hair instead na ponytail.  pag may malong ka sa bahay, mga sea shell necklace okey na.  her costume cost me 200.00 and the same ensemble cost 500.00 sa isang mall...

Sa school binili yung costume ngayon ni Meg kasi dapat pare-pareho sila. Kala ko nga magagamit niya yung dati niyang costume, sayang naman kasi. 380 yan. Sana nextyear magamit ko pa.  :)

I saw several Linggo ng Wika costumes in the Marikina Market for only P200 or less.

- for 4-5 yr old boys (Katipunero outfit, red pants, camisa de chino with red scarf) P170-P200
- Filipiniana for 4-5 year old girl P200

Hi Sis!!!  yung son ko will be representing Mr. Cambodia also next week, saan ka nakabili ng ganyang costume? ang cute kasi eh nahihirapan din ako mag isip at mag search kung saan makakabili... pwede ba ma rent or bilihin ko na lang yan.. :)

help mga mommies! I need a costume for UN event, my daughter will represent Australia! I dont even know what that looks like. Been trying to ask google but still no luck! help!!!  :-\!

My daughter also will be representing Australia. Wala pong national costume ang Australia. Pwedeng modern na outback ang gear, parang texas cowboy/cowgirl pero toned down to hat, polo, khaki shorts and boots. Pwede ding Aboriginal (ancestors), artistic pero primitive ang dating.

Hello mga mommies, it's our first UN experience this year. And may parade din ang aking daugter sa school. Ang catch, walang assigned na country per student. I dont know kung mas mahirap ba or mas madali for us.

Any suggestion kung ano magandang irepresent na country? Gusto ko yung catchy ang costume at medyo bonggga and at the same time madali lang maghanap ng costume.

Naisip ko kasi baka naman madami maging kaparehang country ang daughter ko..

Eto ang mga choices ko: Costa Rica, Spain, Denmark, Korea. Any otehr tips and suggestions?
