Title: All About Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
Post by: daphnezabala on September 25, 2007, 03:28:12 pm
I found out that I have PCOS and that it will be difficult for me to get pregnant again.  Aside from taking metformin, what can I do to reverse it?

Thanks so much!

you may want to consult your OB gyne for that matter. i have an office mate who also have a PCOS. I think she was given a provera for her cycle to be normal. your OB will give you  and your husband contact dates once  your cycle regulates. Luckily my officemate got pregnant during the treatment.hope ive answered your query.

Hi Daphne!

I was exactly like that a few months ago.   Instead of taking metformin, my doctor from the US advised that I take 200mcg of Chromium Picolinate and exercise.   I haven't even finished the bottle from Healthy Options ... Lo and behold, I am now almost 3 months pregnant.

Good Luck!

Mia

Hello, Mommies!

Just want to give you an update on my quest for my second pregnancy.  Last October 17, I found out that I was already 9 weeks pregnant.  Unfortunately, the ultrasound saw that it was an ectopic pregnancy, my baby was in my right fallopian tube and was about to erupt.  So that same day, the doctor operated on me and removed my little one (now I know how a caesarian delivery feels like).

I saw the heartbeat on the monitor and I couldn't help but feel really sad by what happened.  I was really looking forward to being preggy again because my son is turning 4 already and he seems to want a little brother.  Same with my husband who wanted another son.

But I know that the Lord has a will for me and will give me another little one soon(doesn't really matter if it will be a boy or girl actually since I'm not picky).  Just hope and pray that it will be before I turn 32 (I'm 30 now).

God bless everyone!

My PCOS was healed when I changed my diet.  One of the causes of PCOS is the high amount of insulin in the blood (which should be absorbed) and is one of the causes of our gaining weight.  Ask a dietitian on what foods - high in protein - are good for you and lessen your intake of high carbo foods.

What I did was I increased my intake of fish, veggies, tofu and soya milk and increased exercise (at least 3x a week I did 2 kinds of exercises).  These helped bring down my insulin level (along with a bit of help from a hypo-glycemic tablet) and I got preggy on the 6th month.

Hope this helps.  God bless.

hi again sisters! it's been awhile since i last psoted here. just got so busy taking care of my now 8-month old baby boy cause im breastfeeding him full time, and also my very naughty 4-year old little girl.

anyway, for all of you who are "suffering" from this syndrome, don't lost hope. you will get what you want at the right time.

just a little background about my pcos...
Title: Re: All About Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
Post by: dr_dona on December 06, 2008, 09:53:29 pm
as i was saying... prior to having two beautiful kids now, i tried undergoing fertility treatments because of my PCOS... i was on clomid for 6 sessions and each time, i underwent TVS(transvaginalultrasound) to monitor if i'm ovulating... and each time the ultrasound reveals the result, it was very frustrating to us... moreover, it was so expensive...

clomid and provera didn't work for me... so the next step we underwent was taking fertlity shots... i took 6 sessions of shots but still nothing worked... and this one is more expensive than the clomid... i remember a shot 5 years ago would cost me 5k.

since these medications didn't work for me... the doctor finally said that we'd better undergo AI(Artificial Insemination) which is so expensive!!! it cost 500K per trial in which you don't have an assurance that the baby will live inside your body...

so as a result, i stop TTC.

i stop pressuring and blaming myself for not getting pregnant...

on the process of self healing, i do my own researches on what really is PCOS... and i discovered a lot of things about it, which most of us specially here in the philippines doesn't know about... oh btw, kahit tanungin natin mga moms natin or aunties magtataka lang sila kung ano ang PCOS because they never heard about it!!!

PCOS is so common nowadays, for some reason our generation today have a predisposition to it... lalo na yung mga may diabetes sa family line...

and here comes the hollistic approach that i mentioned in the first post that i made.

i tried medicating myself without harming my body... it was then that i realized that all the fertility hormones that i took made the situation worse... moreover in the long run, then can cause cancer to our body... we don't want that! all we want is be moms to beautiful babies... not moms to cancer cells...

PCOS are back! my OB gave me clomid. on the 3rd month taking the meds... a miracle! i now have a 1 yr old baby boy :) pray! -- God will bless you the miracle of life! and trust your OB as well... :)

i was diagnosed with pcos 7 months after i had a miscarriage 2 years ago. i cant remember if i took medicine. hehe. but i think i did. when i got my regular flow na, di na ako bumalik sa ob ko because i think regular na ang period ko.
now, im actually waiting if i am pregnant or if im pcos again (hope not).

tama ang ibang mommies, exercise, i think can help reverse the syndrome. i gained extra pounds nung may pcos ako. as in sobra. i tried losing weight. medyo naglose na ako ng mga 10lbs. sana ma-maintain ko.
  ;)

^hi sis! same here. and just gave birth Jan 11, 2009. and we want to be pregnant again, my OB just prescribed me to continue with my metformin. parang ganun yata talaga pag PCOS, tuloy tuloy ang gamutan. and kailangang maregulate yung period natin para maayos din yung pago-ovulate to conceive. hopefully by God's grace, makabuo kami pag uwi ni hubby this December. Good luck to us!

hi moms,

Same with angeldeng metformin din ang iniinom ko plus sabi ng OB magbawas daw ng timbang kasi nakakaapekto din daw yun. Siguro more than 6 months din ako nagtreatment. Nakakalungkot nga nung time na yun. Pero syempre pray pa rin ako and continue my medicines.

i also have pcos... for 6 years now. was on medication for 4 years until it cleared out. i got married in 2006 and when i had my check up, it was back. my OB gave me treatment for it plus fertilization. after 4 months, got pregnant.

based on my OB, i have to monitor my period. if i wanted to get preggy again, i have to undergo ultrasound again before meds to make sure if i have pcos again or not. i have no problems taking in meds... if that's the only way to conceive another angel ... go! go! go! ako :)

Hi, Mommy!  I had PCOS when I was in college (2000).  My OB also advised me to take Provera and I was on pills (Mercillon) for two years.  Regular monitoring via ultrasound.  After 2 years, nawala naman na daw pero pwedeng bumalik.

It was quite an experience. medyo traumatic having to go through all that when you are still single and all.  Everytime I visit my OB, she would tell me to get married na para they can start na with treatments na hindi possible for me at that time.  She told me na baka I would have difficulty conceiving (aside from PCO kasi, I also have retroverted uterus).  Balak nga namin ng husband ko na if after 5 years, wala pa rin kami baby, we'll just adopt na lang.  Imagine our surprise, honeymoon baby ang anak namin! hehe. I still had PCO daw sa left ovary ko and ang right ang nafertilize.  Ang galing talaga ni Lord, He gave us a spare in case the other one conks out. hehe.

I was also diagnosed with PCOS 1 year after giving birth with my son, ask ako ng OB kung gusto ko na daw sundan, sabi ko hindi pa kaya hindi niya ako binigyan ng kahit na anong medicine pag nagbalak na daw ako saka daw ako magpacheck ulit. Dapat bang itreat na kahit wala pang balak magbuntis?

Hi sis grace^
I have PCOS also. 2 years din kami nag try ni hubby before we got pregnant.
You can check if you have PCOS thru TVS (transvaginal ultrasound). Mache-check kung may mga follicles present in either or both of your ovaries. As per my OB, best time to have TVS to check PCOS by 2nd to 3rd day of your PMS.
Yung OB ko, she just prescribed me with Metformin. yun lang, then excercise and watch yung diet. ayun, nakabuo din kami.
Yung Hydrotubation. Parang finlush ng 'water' yung 'tubes' para clear and ready fro the timing-contact.

I can refer my OB to you. She's affiliated at St. Luke's; Manila Doctor's ; and Cardinal Santos:

Dra. Joan Tan-Garcia
OB-Gyne
Reproductive Endocrinology, Infertility & Menopause Specialist

Good Luck sis. And best of all, Pray to God.  ;)

Hello, everyone! I am new to this site and I hope you can all help me. I am not yet married, never been  married, but hopes to get married in due time. I recently discovered that I have a polycystic left ovary. My right ovary though is normal. I am 28 years old. My family doesn't have a history of diabetes, but my father learned that he has an elevated blood sugar. It was acquired I guess because in his mid adult life he was obese. I started gaining weight right after college. I got a bad case of acne on my face, my chest, my back, my arms, and even my thighs. My self-esteem suffered almost all of my life because of it. I've been to many dermatologists but to no avail. Now, earlier this month I had my first ultrasound and the doctor discovered that I have PCOS. I want to know who among who has suffered from the same syndrome and it has been completely cured. What medicines did your OB-GYN recommend? My OB prescribed Provera 10mg for 3 mos. Were you able to conceive after treating the syndrome? Is there hope? I cried last night with the thought that I might not be able to bear a child of my own. I haven't even been married and yet I now have PCOS. I hope you can all share what you know about PCOS. I guess not only parents are welcome to join this discussion. Parent-hopefuls like me must be in touch with real parents to know about things in life. Thanks very much to all of you!

I had polycystic ovary syndrome (both ovaries, but my left one was worst off than the right one) but it appeared when I was already in my fortys.  Due to the POVs along with myoma growths that were growing too fast, I eventually - at age 55 - had to have a total hysterectomy.  The total hysterectomy was logical in my case since I was no longer at childbearing age, and the continued growth of the myomas were quite threatening to me.  Even so, it took me almost 10 years (from age 45 when my OBGyn indicated that I might need my surgery) to decide to finally agree to the surgery.  Throughout the time that I vacillated about making a decision, I visited my OBGyn regularly and she kindly answered each and every question, and every fear I had, that I told her about.

As to your condition at your young age, I think POVs occurs because of hormonal imbalance, but it would be best for you to ask your OBGyn - including all the other questions you have.

If your OBGyn is the type who is not willing to spend a little more time with you to answer your questions, you can always opt to see another OBGyn.  My OBGyn was very honest and kind in explaining my condition to me.  You can send me a personal message if you would like to know who that OBGyn is.

some OBs say that one of the factors contributing to PCOS is your weight. why don't you try living a healthier/active lifestyle? at the same time, elevates your confidence ;)

there are quite a number of medications na available i think to treat PCOS, so i guess it depends on the patient if susceptible yung gamot sa kanya. i know some na nag conceive naman after the work up.

it would be best to also get an OB na you are super comfortable with and will answer all of your questions.

Hi sis!
there's a thread about PCOS on 'moms health'. you can see many experiences and stories about PCOS.
I have PCOS too, discovered just before i got married. Don't be saddened kasi I got pregnant after 2 years of trying to conceived.
I've been to many OBs also. Until I found the right one.
Better to loose weight, cut sweets, and have exercise.
My OB prescribed me to take metformin.
And sis, most of all, Pray to God. Nothing is impossible with Him.
God Bless.

Don't worry about it.  I got pregnant after less than 6 months on medication.  To speed up the healing process, take your meds, control your sweet tooth and cravings for carbs and exercise a little more than you should.

Hope this helps.

been treating my PCOS since 2000. ganyan din feeling ko dati. i thought i won't be able to give my bf (now hubby) a child and i was really devastated. yet... we got married last 2006, i still had PCOS. my ob-gyne prescribed Provera 10mg per month until i get pregnant. after 4 months of taking it, i finally confirmed my 1st pregnancy. i was 29yrs old then and i was working, drinking and smoking too.

gave birth in 2008 and recently, i checked again with my ob-gyne and my PCOS is back. so, hubby and i decided to treat it until we both decide to have another baby. i'm on Yasmin now and hoping that i'll be treated again to get a change to have a baby girl in the future :D

Hi Moms!  i was diagnosed with PcOS last June 19.  i thot i was pregnant kasi i was 2 weeks delayed.  I did my first PT (pregnancy test) 6/5 and it was negative. but then, after a week, wala pa rin ako. so i've decided to do the PT again. after 1 min. nag2 lines sya...and sabi ko magiging 4 na baby ko..:D kaso, after ko magPT, parang feeling ko may burst sa underwear ko and upon checking...may blood na lumabas so i wear napkin.  I was very confused that time.  I thot i'm having a miscarriage na kasi may mga buong blood na lumalabas. the 'menstruation continued for 5 days. ( i was in bicol that time kaya i di ako makapag pa-check up sa OB ko.)

when i got back in Manila last June 19.  di na ko nagpahinga at pumunta ako agad sa cousin kong OB. She checked me using the trans-vaginal ultra sound.  we wanted to confirm lang if i had a miscarriage kaya niya ginawa un. so, un di nga ako buntis kc di naman inflated yung uterus ko.  But she found out i have several cyst on my 2 ovaries. and explained to me that common indication un mga unwanted hair sa face, chest and arms. she gave me prescription Pill (to regularized my cycle) & Metformin (for diabetes).

I'm not bothered kasi naisip ko if its really my time then so be it. and so i texted my family that everything is ok that i am not pregnant. its an ordinary menstrual cycle.  and informed that that i am diagnosed with PcOS.

Hi Sis, like you I also had PCOS not sure if I still have it now though but I underwent treatments for more than a year if I'm not mistaken. I also went through different OBs pero pare-parehas lang sila ng prescription sakin at findings until such time na napagod na ako at pinabayaan ko na lang. Pero I since I had difficulty in conceiving, i had no choice but to undergo medications and yun nga po I religiously took all the meds prescribed to me.

Kahit sino pong OB makakatulong sau since they are the experts and they know what to do. According to one of my OBs, sakin ang case ng PCOS ko ay mas mataas or mas marami yung androgens kesa sa estrogens, resulting to acne problems, tapos naging issue rin pagiging morena ko at balbon sabi ng doctor it could also be because of my PCOS, overweight din ako that time though hindi ako mataba talaga - pero my weight is not proportion to my height, high in sugar level, irregular menstuation and difficulty in conceiving. If left untreated pwede cyang maging cause ng infertility.

Eto yung mga meds na i had to take a year ago,
Metformin - i started taking this once a day and then after two weeks, naging twice a day and then after a week naging thrice a day. Side effect nito sakin, everytime I eat oily foods or sweets talaga naman LBM ako so ayun nag-lose ako ng weight because of this med. Kasabay ng Metformin ay Contraceptive Pills (Diane and Yasmin), i had to take contraceptive pills kahit wala naman hubby ko para ma-regulate yung menstruation ko. That's for 6 months.

Then i changed OB, same lang din yung pingawa sakin pero nung nag-7months nako taking those pina-stop nako and I was switched to Duphaston for 6 months then nung dumating yung hubby ko since I wanted to conceive na Clomid naman saka duphaston, ayun after 2 mos of taking Clomid and Duphaston, preggy na ako. Tapos when I had my Ultrasound, wala naman na sakin sinabi yung doc about PCOS.

hi sis, like you I was diagnosed din with PCOS, i think that was last year. Same din prescription satin Metformin saka Pills. I took those for 7 months. So far ok naman na ako ngaun kasi I am pregnant na pero what I can say is that nakatulong yung meds na yun kasi my hubby and I were trying to conceive even before we got married so that  was 8 years ago.

Sundin mo lang yung advise ni ob, kasi ako i even went to several ob pare-pareho sila ng sinasabi so I guess that's the only way it could be treated.

Hi sis, thanks sa information  :D...

I was diagnosed with PCOS after I gave birth, then my OB said na wag muna ko resetahan ng medicine since I don't want to get preggy pa and i regulate lang ang menstration ko. And the story goes...

After 2 years ito I gained 100lbs. before I was really payat not that like anorexic pero payat but now nakakadepress, my siblings teased me as "Michelin" because I grew so big, my OB said that my weight gain is indeed related with PCOS she gave me this medicine GLUCOMET to lose weight daw pero no effect naman to me, she said I should have LBM etc pero nothing talga.

Pinabayaan ko lang naman kasi I really don't want to get preggy pa not until a few days ago,  nakita ko I have brown balat na i don't have before so I went again to my OB and sabi niya un din daw one of the symptoms.

I'm tried lang with my ob kasi until I ask question she will not inform me.

My concern lang is that I am afraid that it may lead to cancer, and I'll be forever obese.

PCOS din daw ako sabi ng OB ko, sa result nung blood test ko mataas insulin ko. never naman nag skip ng monthly period ko, paiba-iba lang ang cycle days ko but 35days na yung pinaka matagal... 8mos na kami TTC kaya last october nagpa alaga na ako sa OB. until now hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala na may PCOS ako... 1st cycle ko ng clomid ngayon and sad to say hindi daw hiyang sa akin ang clomid, so next cycle iba na naman ang papainom na gamot sa akin. im taking avandia instead of metformin kase payat daw ako...

hi mga sis...i am now 5 weeks pregnant without taking any medication..last June lang ako nag stop sa metformin tapos nag supplements nalang ako. Miracles really do Happen... nagsimba ako sa Quiapo Church every friday or basta any day na mapadaan ako.. answered prayer talaga ako.

i never thought i have PCOS kasi regular ang menstrual cycle ko, and super payat ako.

but then, when i got married and we decided that we wanted to conceive na, i found out, through the series of tests that i have PCOS in both my ovaries, and have retroverted uterus pa.

because we were already TTC, i was prescribed metformin 3x a day (i took glucophage) and duphaston.  i also took folic acid and vitamin e, para ready na yung body ko for pregnancy.  si hubby naman, pinag-centrum ng OB ko, maganda daw kasi yun because of selenium and zinc.  nag-folic acid din sya.  tapos we were taught how to time our contact, pati positions.

after ilang months, super happy kami that i got pregnant na!  prayers and tyaga lang talaga...

I have polycystic ovaries.........

After giving birth to my first born.............abnormal ang cycle ko, as in sa loob ng isang taon, 3-4 times lang ako mag mens...........ininuman ko pa ng gamot yun para magkaroon ako.............after that...........

tests have been made...............and I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries..............

Have a checkup..............kasi maraming nangyayari pag meron ka nyan...............like ta-taba ka minsan may tumutubo hair sa chest and mustache (sa iba ha.......luckily I don't have these symtoms pero tumaba ako)

Marami pang nangyari................na raspa ako because of continuous and heavy bleedings.........so the OBGyne asked us kung gusto pa namin magka-baby...............

Tests again.................check my hormones, etc......................blood tests at gamot lang................I have 2 wonderful kids (a boy - gave birth at 28yo and a girl - gave birth at 36yo)...........

Experiences:  with Polycystic ovaries...........not menstrating...........not good..........prone to endometrial cancer
Mirena IUD attached (good for 5 years) to prevent the uterus lining from thickening

pa-check ka muna sa OB Specializing in Reproductive Endocrinology.
I have Bi-lateral PCOS, i mens regularly and my OB prescribed to take Metformin (Humamet) for 3 months to see if I can ovulate normally.. at exactly 3 months, I got pregnant.  ;)

Just to add, my OB specializes in Infertility.. so even I mens regularly it doesnt mean i can conceive na agad.. she had me took hysterogram.. to check the fallopian tubes are open/blocked.. open naman yung aken. and she also had me check my prolactin and insulin level.. dun na nakita yung prob.. i have a very high insulin kaya I dont ovulate.  :)

Hope this helps :)

Hi sis! Just want to share with you all the odds that were against my getting pregnant :
1.  Have polycystic ovaries
2.  Have endometriosis
3.  Have multiple myoma (6 actually)
4.  Have a retroverted uterus
5.  My FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) was already high, signalling that menopause was eminent
6.  I was 35 when I decided to go to a fertility OB, work up for a year then we gave up...

Miracle of miracles! I got pregnant at 38, though I lost the baby before my 3rd month... after 5 months.. I'm pregnant again! With twins!  No medications, no work-up, no diet... Guess it was just time for us. So don't lose hope.  At your age, the OB will consider infertility after a year of continous contact with no conraceptives.  Of course lot's of prayers will help a lot too and just relax... darating na lang basta yan :-)

Good luck to you and your hubby-to-be :-)

try my OBGyne super galing................you dont need to see other doctors para sa ibang problem regarding your reproductive system atbp.  DR. JEAN GO-DU, St. Lukes Medical Center in E. Rod.

nag try ako pumunta sa iba kasi hindi siya Maxicare doctor........kung ano ano ang pinapagawa.........like i-dye daw yun falopian tubes ko............go see a endo specialists.....blah blah............

Mura pa consultation niya............the best ever................try mo!

i was diagnosed with PCOS (both ovaries) and retroverted uterus.  regular naman ang period ko, yun nga lang, walang mature na egg na na-produce.

what my OB did was had me take folic acid, vitamin e and duphaston.  tapos may schedule and recommended position din for contact.

good day mga momsy!

thanks for taking time to read this. hope to hear from you!

God Bless!

After giving birth to my first born......that was 9 years ago and I was 28 years old........something went wrong with my cycle....................hormonal imbalance daw...........hindi na ako nagmemenstrate.................sa loob ng isang taon mga 4 times na lang.........ininuman ko pa ng gamot yun................minsan nag continuous heavy bleeding ako after taking yun pampa-mens...............at na-raspa ako there..............I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries.

SYMPTOMS:  tumaba ako

..............another abnormal menstral bleeding incident........na-raspa nanaman ako...............nagulat doctor ko (Hysteroscopy procedure is being done) ang daming ko raw polyp so tinanggal niya lahat..................my doctor asked us if we want another baby............so blood test ako to check my hormones, etc. and medication..............

Miracle baby talaga.....................God given gift to our family..............so I have a boy and a girl..............ok na rin ako dun.

Take chances.......................my OB Gyne is Dr. Jean Go-Du, St. Lukes Medical Center..........dont worry mura consultation at mura talaga siya pati professional fee.

i was diagnosed with PCOS (both ovaries) and retroverted uterus.  regular naman ang period ko, yun nga lang, walang mature na egg na na-produce.

what my OB did was had me take folic acid, vitamin e and duphaston.  tapos may schedule and recommended position din for contact.

after 3 months of medication, i was pregnant, and now i have a baby boy.   ;D

yes naman po..after proper medication sometimes kahita wala...
Just like the case of Gladys Reyes,She's PCOS also di nila akalain na mabubuntis pa sya sa third baby niya, kase nga PCOS sya but then kaloob ng Diyos and they survived it....

Just proper diet lang din po and proper care once you conceived, mahirap din po kase magbuntis ang mga PCOS in most cases....

HAVE A HAPPY PREGNANCY!

Hi I have PCOS for the longest time until now after giving birth last Sept 2010 to a healthy baby boy.

I was taking metformin since I was 23 and I got married last 2008. Due to my illness I had difficulty in conceiving.

But thru my experience, I learn 3 things that works since I can't be pregnant  naturally:

1, Frank and patient but loving (treat you like a friend/relative) OB that you can really relate and build a relationship with.
2. Following your medication and advise of your OB religiously
3 Prayer

After 4th cycle of work-up with my OB Taking 1500 mg of metformin everyday (3x aday), 1500 mg clomid (3x a day for 5days of menstration) and 500 mg of folic acid with the help of praying to God and most especially to ST. PIO  I found out that I was pregnant last January 2010. It was the happiest day in my life.

So sis there no harm in trying.. try and try until you succeed. Because of what had happened to me a became a devotee of ST, PIO. IF you have other question you may PM me.

Hi sis, I was PCOS from the longest time and I gave birth last Sept2010. So I had my period last Jan2011 and eversince bumalik na yun PCOS ko (yun PCOS ko is lagi akong may mens as in 2 times a month 7-10 days pa minsan)

So I had my ultrasound confirmed nga na bumalik ang PCOS ko so I ask my OB since d naman talaga curable ang PCOS so now go with the flow ayaw ko naman magpills at wala naman si hubby (OFW). so lagi ako meron =(

Sabi niya if I want to be pregnant again back to Step 1 kame work-up , Taking clomid, metformin and folic acid plus ang aking top things to do : prayer to ST. PIO =) He grant my prayer and I was blessed with a baby boy =)

Sometimes it helps din if you don't think about getting pregnant anymore. Diba sabi nila the more you pressure yourself mas lalo kang di nabubuntis.  This is exactly what happened to me during my infertility years.  Every time my period came umiiyak talaga ko, and almost every lovemaking, medyo nagiging mechanical na.  Until, yun nga, we stopped trying, got ourselves some dogs and became "nurturing parents" to our "kids."   Ayun, when we weren't expecting.. I got pregnant with no medical intervention.

My cousin said baka daw naging mas relax na uterus ko and naging accomodating kasi lumabas yung nurturing side ko.

I'm just so glad lang din that my hubby was very supportive kasi nung time na depressed ako coz hindi ko nga siya mabigyan ng anak, he told me not to thiink about it anymore kasi happy nanaman daw kami kahit kaming 2 lang, so nawala din pressure sa kin. :-)

At some point tama ka sis! kasi from what I read, yung pressure daw na pagkakaroon ng baby is nakakadagdag ng chronic stress sa katawan natin which is nagpapalala lalo sa capacity natin to produce.Kami ni hubby,8 years nagtry, poz lagi heartbroken pag nagkakaron.May times pa nga na nagtatalo na kaming 2 pero as times goes on,nakalimutan na namin yun.We started enjoying ourselves na lang and yun, nagulat na lang kami one day nalaman ko Im preggy!Minsan kasi when you least expect it,lalong nangyayari! ;)

was diagnosed with PCOS just yesterday..a bit disappointed..kahit parang hindi masyadong magaling yung OB eh nakakuha naman ako ng info sa pagiging makulit ko...

according to her: PCOS is not a disease, rather it is a hormonal imbalance..there are some factors that contributes para mahirapan tayo mabuntis..but it is not just because of PCOS....mainly,PCOS women are predispose to diabetes..kaya nga metformin daw ang unang nirereseta...though advise niya eh magkaron ng healthy lifestyle...

hello mommies...i just want to know ur opinions and get ideas from you... i was diagnosed to have pcos. still single but getting married nx year january. gusto ko sana agad magkababy despite of the condition i have kaya nga consult din naman agad ako sa ob-gyne. bale 2 sila. yung isa kong ob sbi take ako metformin...nagtake nga ako kaso nagstop ako kc im taking althea na. yoko kc umiinom ng umiinom ng maraming gamot. kaya ask ako ng other opinion from another ob. sbi ko gusto ko sana maregular ang period ko. she told me to take althea. so i did. im on my second month of taking that pills. last day ko nga mamaya. bukas free-althea day ko na. since nagtake na ako ng althea di na nga ako nagtake ng metformin. ok lang ba yun?
ano kaya best way to do para mabuntis agad ang pcos patient like me. when should i stop taking althea? please reply...

@joy anne.............we are just sharing our experiences but it better to take the advise of an OB-Gyne kasi sila ang mas nakakaalam kung ano ang dapat gawin.

Also, let your partner know your case, mahirap kasi pag hindi ka nagka baby at maging issue pagdating ng panahon.

I agree with Sis MWORK, my OB is also DR. JEAN GO-DU of St. Luke's QC and UDMC.
May PCOS din ako and madami na din nagsabi na OB na i need to undergo surgery... aalisin daw iyong mga cyst ko. Pero buti na lang nakapunta ako kay Dr. Jean Go-Du and she said that I don't need to undergo surgery.. and she didn't even ask me na mag gamot. After mga 3 to 4 months of taking vitamins ayun preggy na ako. Now 1 year old ang baby ko and super healthy.

And to add more super bait siya...

So Maxicare refer me to a Maxicare doctor - OB-Gyne tapos sinabi ko history ko...na may PCOS ako etc. etc.
tapos ni-refer niya ako sa Endocrinologist at iba pang doctor....that I have to undergo ink test...parang lalagyan ng ink ang lining ng ovaries ko to check kung may bara ????????????? What a joke! Ang maganda sa kanya...nag further studies si doktora kaya malawak ang kaalaman niya when it comes to our reproductive system.

Sis Mworx, may nararamdaman kaba sakit due to PCOS. Kasi nung nag buntis ako parang wala masakit. Pero before and after ako manganak may masakit sa tagilidan ko at sa likod. Ganun ka din ba? May masakit din ba sa iyo due to PCOS.

@mamay sweety.....wala naman akong nararamdamang ganyan.....pero in my case....hindi na ako nagme menstral which causes my uterus lining to thicken at pwedeng maging endometrial cancer.   Kaya mga sis, if you have PCOS wag pabayaan kasi medyo hindi maganda ang pagtagal tagal na effect.  Meron ako IUD ngayon to prevent me from having cancer.

after a monthn positive na so stop na ko mag metformin...
during my 1st tri nahirapan ako to the point na kelangan mag duvadilan and ma confine due of hyperemesis gravidarum...from 140lbs(dahil may pcos pako nun) i drop to 110lbs... so nag bolus just to feed my baby... natakot talaga ko...pero after 2nd trimester all went well hanggang manganak...and seeing my baby parang walang hirap na pinadaanan....

joining

this thread ay para sakin, bakit ko nasabi to? kasi may PCOS din ako, actually kaka check-up ko lang kanina (nanaman) bakit ko nasabing nanaman, kasi last year dec 17 2010  nag pa check up ako kasi nga di ako nag kaka means for 4 months, so kala ko prenant ako.... pero nung chini check na nang ob ko, yun nga PCOS
so advice ng ob na kilangan ko daw mag lose ng weight so yun bumalik na yung means ko at back to normal nanaman uli.

last december 14 2011, super sakit ng left side lower abdomen ko, so nag pa check ako sa isang specialista,
pain relever lang twice a day at nag pa ultrasound din ako, may nakita sa left side lower abdomen, and the DR. refer me to the OB-GYNE...... so ayon bumalik ako sa OB-GYNE ko kanina lang...... at nag pa TVS ako kanina  yun parin ang  issue same problem

I also have PCOS it was diagnose before i got pregnant. 2 years na kami ni hubby pero hindi kami nagka baby agad so we decided pa magconsult na sa doctor and magpa pregnancy work out..At first dun lang ako nagpa-consult sa isang OB clinic near our house, yung ultra sound nirerefer niya lang sa UDMC then sya na ang magbabasa ng result. When the result came the doctor never explain to us na may PCOS pala ako,she just said na kailangan kong mag diet and irregular ang cycle ko at nag calendar method lang kami and sinasabi niya sa amin kung kailangan dapat itry mag love make(ano yun??).Several months of trying hindi nagwork kaya nagreseta sya ng PILLS sa akin and advice me na itake yun for 2 months then balik ako sa clinic niya after..After 2 months of taking the PILLS bumalik ako sa clinic niya and wondering na may possible sollution na sya to help us magka baby pero wala..(doctor ba talaga sya?) ???

to make long story short, lumipat ako ng ibang OB na specialista. Nag walk -in  ako sa UDMC hoping to get a magaling na OB. .Lucky me kasi yung OB sonologist (Dra.Kristine Martinez of UDMC) na nag ultra sa akin sya yung naging OB ko and binasa niya sa akin yung result and explained to me na may PCOS nga ako.. :(
Sabi niya hindi naman daw yun isang rare desease na dapat ikahiya,Isa lang syang hormonal imbalance na pwede makontrol at ayusin..And she told me na hindi ko na kailangan ng surgery..She scheduled me for 1 day HSG treatment(yun nga lang masakit talaga sya) for infertility para malaman kung blocked ang fallopian tube ko and niresetahan ako ng METFORMIN to prevent the risk of having  diabetis.

One week after the HSG treatment Dra. Martinez told us us to give it a try(every other day make love) ;D ;D
Wola!!! a month after buntis na ko. :D.
Now medyo worried lang ako ulit kasi irregular nanaman ako.. :(

^ it depends kasi kung ano ang gusto ma-achieve sis.  confirmed na ba thru tvs na you have PCOS?

PCOS kasi is caused by hormonal imbalance, kaya kung ang gusto mo is ma-correct yun, you have to take hormonal supplements (pills).

pero if you want to conceive, syempre hindi pwede ang pills.  like for me and other sis here, nagtake ako ng metformin para ma-control yung insulin resistance ko, plus diet modification.  others naman take yung clomid (which is medyo pricey) to aid in ovulation.

Hi Sis, make sure na healthy lifestyle, and also, lessen the sugar intake , usually pag nasa heavy side and ttc, they recommend metformin. Pero pag you just want to regulate your menses or the effects of PCOS (acne, hirtuism) they give out ocp or pills.

was diagnosed with PCOS january of 2008. from then pinag pills ako and metformin once a day for 6 mos. after nung tvs ulit pero meron pa rin both ovaries ko. so tuloy pills and twice a day na metformin ko.

by january 2009, nag clear na left ovary pero polycystic pa rin right ovary ko. so sabi ni OB, continue with pills and metformin twice a day for year and balik daw ako ng january 2010.

pagbalik ko ng 2010, TVS nanaman. found out hinde nagclear ang left ovary ko. my OB asked me if i want to have a baby na cos 28yo na ako nun. sabi ko wala pa namang plan pero i want to in 2-3yrs time. sabi niya mukhang mahihirapan daw ako mag concieve without aid. not impossible pero mahirap. she asked me to try and take metformin thrice a day na pero pag nahilo daw ako, back to twice muna. basta pakiramdaman ko daw. and pinapabalik niya ako ng january 2011, another year of treatment technically.

hinde na ako bumalik kase nabuntis ako!  ;D i now have a healthy baby girl who just turned 5mos. sabi ng new OB ko na nagpaanak sa akin, "salamat sa metformin ano?" natawa nalang ako. tyinaga ko talaga meds ko kase gusto ko magkaanak.

^ lucky you, sis hanne...  10years of TTC bago dumating daughter namin. May PCOS ako and super irregular ang mens, had to take provera once a day for 10 days each month para lang mag-mens.Pagkapanganak ko dahan-dahang naging regular yung cycle ko. After 3 years, I got pregnant ulit effortlessly  :P and gave birth last january. Now, i'm taking metformin 500g 3 times a  day dahil elevated naman sugar ko.

Hi Sissies,

Here's my share about my PCOS.

I am 5'8" tall and was weighing 140lbs when I got married in May of 2009.  DH and I originally planned not to have a baby yet until 2011 but due to family and peer pressure, we decided to try to conceive after two months of being married.

We officially started trying July 2009.  I didn't have my period for August so we waited till September and still there's no sign of PMS so we took probably 5 PTs on different days but it all came back as negative.

We decided to see an OB-GYN to check what's wrong and found out that I have PCOS with both ovaries.  Afraid of not being able to conceive, we did our fertility work up. I was on pills for 2 months but it didn't work so my OB asked me to take Duphaston and Metformin for 1 cycle, But still, it didn't work out.

My OB advised me to lose weight because I gained 40 lbs in 4 months since my wedding day (for unknown reason) so she prescribed me to take Reductil(which costs 95php each) for a month to help me lose some weight. Then she offered me a more extensive work up by taking Puregon shots (my OB taught DH how to inject on my tummy so we don't have to go to her clinic every other day) This will run for a 10 days since your 11th day of menstrual cycle. Each shot cost 5k plus metformin 2x a day.  I was really hopeful because my OB conceived at the age of 40 by using Puregon shots too (she had triplets btw).  She also gave us a headsup that we might have twins or even triplets by taking these shots (which makes it more exiciting).

After the 10th day of taking these shots, we had follicle monitoring (I believe only few hospital offer this kind of TVS).  They will check the size of your eggs every other day (for 3 days) to check if they're responding to the shots. Unfortunately, my eggs are not maturing since day 1 of the monitoring so my OB suggested another cycle of workup using MORE Puregon shots. This time, we did it for 10 straight days using higher dosage of Puregon and 3x a day of Metformin. After all the injectables, follicle monitoring and thousands of pesos, we failed.  :(

I switched to another OB because I think my 1st OB was not good at this and was only in for the money that she's getting from us.  So I met my 2nd OB who found out that I have hypothyroidism that's why I gained nearly 50lbs in 5 months(That explains why I'm gaining so much weight).  This should be one of the first things that they will check before they do a fertility workup plan.  My 2nd OB can't believe that my 1st OB missed to do blood and thyroid test.  I was so disappointed because we failed our workup for 6 months because of my 1st OB. I even left my job to help me conceive.  All effort were wasted not to mention the amount we have to pay for all these!

My 2nd OB (my mom's friend) was very tradional and kinda old, She didn't even want me to take any fertility meds just yet.  Instead she focused on balancing my thyroid hormone by taking eltroxin (which costs less than 10php) everyday.  We did this for a month and tadah - thyroid problem is gone! (but I had to take these pills continously to make sure I will have higher chances of getting pregnant).  The following month, she asked me to take half tablet of Parlodel everyday (which costs 100php).

One day, my mom called one of their common friends to ask for my 2nd OB's CP no. She was surprised to know that her friend's daughter who is already 45yo just got pregnant after 10 years of trying in various countries around the world.  Of course, my mom asked what they did to have her pregnant.  She then referred me to an accupuncturist located in Panay Ave. According to mom's friend, her daughter successfully conceived after 3 months of accupuncture treatment.

So I decided to stop all my western meds and tried my luck with the chinese meds.  I went to the clinic every mondays for 2 months.  Each visit costs me 900 for the accupuncture (to balance your "QI" or good energy and lessen stress level) plus the herbal tea which cost nearly 2k (good for a week).  I did this for 3months but nothing happened.

So I gave up. I stopped all medications and by that time, I realized, I might be pushing too hard. So I  wholeheartedly leave it up to the Lord.

Guess what, after a month of stoping with all these meds and went back to work.  I found out I'm 2 months pregnant.  ;D

That means, the accupuncture worked for me best.  But I strongly believe that God will bless us a baby in His own time.

Good Luck Sissies!!  ;)

Last April, I was diagnosed with PCOS on my left ovary. I'm currently taking pills as prescribed by my OB. Tomorrow, I will have a TVS. hopefully, cleared na ako.

Now I feel lucky of being a mom at age of 20. I'm currently 21 and I already have PCOS. Buti na lang nagkaanak na agad ako bago ako madiagnose as with PCOS.

I was diagnosed with PCOS (both ovaries) few months after i gave birth to my first child. Very irregular ang period ko, sometimes no period for 3 straight months. My OB prescribed me metformin and pills but dahil nga kakapanganak ko palang, me and hubby dont plan on having another baby yet hindi ko ininom ang medications. For 4 years na wala kaming birth control method na ginagamit hindi ako napreggy and still super irreg ang period ko, gained a lot of weight too. Finally when we decided na we're ready na for baby no. 2, nagpaconsult ulit ako to treat PCOS. First and probably the most important advice ng OB ko is to lose weight. So i worked on it and lost 60lbs in eight months, still hindi pa rin regular ang period ko but meron ng improvement. So i was prescribed with metformin again 3x a day, for 3 months plus pre-natal vitamins. So for 3 months nagmomonitor ako ng period ko and very consistent na 28days cycle ako, so after nun nagstart kami ng clomid to help me ovulate naman. First cycle eh failed hindi ako nabuntis, i took it one tab/day. So second month OB increased my dosage to 2tabs/day plus ultrasound to see kung may nagmature ba akong eggs. Sa ultrasound may nakita na 2 good sized eggs ako so kelangan nalang tyempuhan namin ni hubby. After a month of anxiously waiting for my next period, iba na pakiramdam ko, alam ko buntis na ako and nagpregnancy test ako 3 days before my period and behold! Its POSITIVE! Im now going on my 7th month, and we cant wait to see our second baby!

Mommies,we're planning na to have a 2nd baby, last Nov kami start. last dec. di ako dinatnan.
THANKS :)

Hi, Im new member here, same as all with PCOS still battling it up, I got married last 2008 and have miscarriage at 5months old baby, up to the present no sign of being pregnant, trying it up, Same as many, consulted with various OB  and taken too many drugs like metformin, folic acid, duphaston, and really a hard time losing weight.

Above all of disappointment, still fighting for this. I read all of the post same interaction n experiences. But inspite of this, I am very happy that I am not alone dealing with this PCOS, Thank you for having this forum opened, I do hope maybe next time if I become pregnant,  I can share my full story with you.

Journey with PCOS, it is not as serious illness, but can be cure naturally. :)

Hi mommies! PCOS din po ako, diagnosed ako nung 2010. Almost a year ako ngmetformin at todo exercise at diet sa sweets, bawal din 6 fruits na matamis such as pineapple, mango, atis, watermelon, grapes, banana. Reglar din check up ko OB. Exercise ako atleast 1 hour a day yung talagang tulo pawis. Dahil masunurin ako sa OB ko nabuntis ako less than a year of thorough exercise at diet. Continue ko lang diet till manganak. Cause daw ng PCOS unknown, it could be nasa genes or pwede din stress

Same kasi yung situation nyo with my former boss sa office. Binigyan sya 2 months to monitor and para mghintay ng result. Pero alam nyo mga sis, 2 weeks after, nagpacheck up sya, wala na PCOS niya. Pero syempre tinuloy tuloy parin niya yun for 2 moths as advises. And 3 months after she started taking those vits, nabuntis sya  nakakaproud lang  :)

I was diagnosed with PCOS last year, now I'm 16 weeks pregnant.  ;D I am so happy! When I found out na may PCOS ako nalungkot ako kasi baka di na masundan baby ko. Nag bleeding ako at may threathened miscarriage before tapos na-diagnose pa ako with GDM dahil daw sa PCOS din yun.

Oh well, Nag-gain ako ng weight at pumangit ng todo ang mukha ko dahil sa PCOS but now that I'm preggy, k lang..I'm excited for my new child.

4 months akong di nagkaroon noon kaya i decided na magpacheck up.

Actually nagsettle down lang ako last year. Ayun sa awa ng Diyos magkakababy na.

Hi mommies! I have a 3 month old baby girl and as a first time mom, breastfeeding was a little confusing for me.. I was purely breastfeeding Elle (my baby).. Unfortunately after a month or so, I developed mastitis, that was a serious case since I got operated due to the infection. Until I came back to work, I still got the cut and all from the operation. I was having headache too, maybe its all due to the depression I got from the pain of mastitis which lasted for a couple of weeks (mas masakit sa labor, i might say).  When I got reinstated sa work, my officemate told me to try USANA Essentials and so I ddid, I paired em with Biomega, after 3 days lang po, the cut was healing na talaga. I didnt take anything other than it until now, even my cases of headaches were gone. To all the moms, happy breastfeeding and take good care. I must add, USANA is so far, one of the best food supp I have ever taken!

What I did: Lifestyle modification. Diet, exercise, quit smoking, took pills to regulate menses and Glutathione, I swear. You can read in the internet. Tationil pa yun made in france huhuhu.  She also recommends it to her patients. She have PCOS also and got pregnant 3x.

First time ko lang kasi mag pa OB. Wala pa din akong baby. Hehe. 😋

Hello Tina! I merged your question with this topic para makapag back read ka about PCOS.

PCOS is a hormonal disorder kaya nakakaramdam ka ng mga signs napareho ng sa buntis. It's the same signs na nararamdaman ng nagme-menopause at mga bago pa lang nag te-take ng contraceptives at mga tumigil sa pag take. Disrupted kasi ang natural hormones kaya iyan ang effect. Ito rin ang dahilan kung bakit ka delayed, hindi normal ang hormones mo ngayon because of the PCOS.

Trust your doctor. They know better than things you read about on the internet. Kung duda ka sa doctor mo, get a 2nd opinion from another doctor. As an OB Gynecologist, alam niya kung pano tumingin kung positive o negative, sa dami ba naman ng pasyenteng na-check up na niya in different stages of pregnancy. By the way, TV is more accurate than PT.

Hi , newbie here. Share ko lang
Last 2nd week of October nakaramdam ako ng pagsusuka sa umaga, masakit ang balakang at legs ko nagcacramp. Nag ccrave dn ako pati nahihilo so akala ko buntis ako kaya nag PT ako. After nun, nagpa check up ako sabi ng doctor may PCOS daw ako.

@Phoebe
