Title: Eating Solids at 5 months Old
Post by: Adi Adi on April 11, 2011, 06:05:07 pm
Hello everyone! Im a newbie here. Just want to ask. My baby's 5 months old and she's already taught to eat solids like papaya and banana by her lola. She drinks milk seldom now, like 20oz/day. is this normal?

some pedia alows babies to eat solid food as early as 4 mos but most of them recommend na 6months mag introduce ng solids sa babies ... pero hindi tama na mabawasan or malimitahan agad ang milk intake niya kasi ito pa rin ang pinaka primary need ng babies ... pa konti konti lang mommy at 5 months, parang introduce mo lang sya sa texture ng solid food ... as far as I can remember, parang 8 months na baby ko nung talagang kumain sya ng solid .. 6th and 7th month niya, pakunti kunti pa lang talaga .... :-)

hi! we started introducing food to baby when he was 4 1/2 months old, with go signal from the pedia. hindi siya talaga yung "kain", more of tikim lang ng food, pureed steamed veggies thinned with milk or water. kung di niya maubos, ok lang, basta natikman niya. mas dumami yung milk intake niya when we started feeding him solids.
for your baby's age na 5 months pa lang, better pa rin na ang source of nutrition niya is milk (either formula or breastmilk), not solid food, try feeding your baby with milk muna before the solid food, baka kasi nabusog na siya masyado sa fruits bago siya magmilk, kaya wala ng gana mag gatas.

i trusted my instincts on this and checked if my baby was fine with solids na. i made sure na kaya naman niyang kainin yung food and small servings muna, and then saka nagiincrease. it's good na ganyan kalakas kumain baby mo, my baby loves eating and now it is easier to giver her a variety of food kasi sanay na siyang kumain,.
though with fruits ngayong 7 months lang pinermit ng doctor ko gawin yun and kelangan super mashed or chopped. the soups are okay too. also the juices,

4 months din ang baby ko when we introduced solid foods to him.. 3 times a day ang pag-eat niya ng solids. puro puree vegetables/fruits lang ang pinapakain namin sa kanya like sweet potato, potato, carrots, butternut squash, banana, apple etc.  i never gave him cerelac/gerber also coz madaming nagsabi sakin na mga mommies na nahirapan silang pakainin ng ibang foods ang babies nila coz nasanay sa cerelac/gerber.  so i personally prepare his foods.  we just put the puree foods sa freezer then heat na lang pag-eat na siya.  i actually bought a food warmer para sa kanya coz ayokong i-microwave ang foods niya, nakakawala kasi ng nutrients.. we slowly introduce rice din sa kanya, dumating pa sa point na mas gusto niya ng rice so i mix the mashed veg sa rice para he'll eat..

for your baby, just make sure pa rin that he'll drink his milk.  konti konti lang ang solid, para lang masanay siya sa pag-eat :)

basta sis the more she eats solids, the lesser she drinks milk. it's part of weaning talaga.

solid at 5 months is completely healthy and wow, your kiddo drinks a lot of milk so that's good!

There was a recent study about how baby-lead weaning produces healthier babies who are less likely to be obese. So my advise is to continue letting your child eat soft solid foods and let her decide when she's full or not. If you want to read the study, go here: http://greeneggsandmoms.com/study-spoon-fed-weaning-results-to-overweight-kids.html (http://greeneggsandmoms.com/study-spoon-fed-weaning-results-to-overweight-kids.html)

my baby started eating solids at 4 months as advised by his pedia but his milk intake wasn't lessened, he constantly ask for more milk every after feeding time. we sometimes give him water but still he prefers milk.

Started with solids at 4 months. Okay naman siya. At 5 months, stage 2 foods na siya twice a day (bad trip na si baby sa stage 1 foods) plus yung soft Marie biscuits (hindi yung old school one). Marie Time ata yun.

Di masyado naglessen yung milk intake niya.

My baby's pedia recommended to start feeding him cerelac when he was 4 months old. Kaya medyo nagulat ako na pwede na pala as early as 4 months. Ang naging problema lang ay humina ang milk intake niya. Confusing nga kasi may binigay na amount ang pedia kung gaano karaming cerelac ang dapat niya kainin in a day, at the same time, dapat 24oz na milk ang ma-consume niya in a day. Nasusunod ang dami ng cerelac na dapat niya makain pero un sa milk hindi, kasi busog na sya sa cerelac kaya inaayawan ang milk, bumaba tuloy weight niya.

Without telling the pedia I completely stopped feeding him cerelac and milk lang sya for a month para tumaas ulit ang weight niya. Hindi ko na rin sinunod ang dami ng cerelac na recommended ng pedia. Although pinapakain ko sya ng cerelac, mas marami pa rin ang milk that time.

Its a good thing that you LO have solid foods at 5 months. As max mom's will feed their LO when they will be in the 6th month as it is the right time to feed the solid foods for the LO's.

My baby turns 5 months this month (june) and as a mom my priority is a healthy diet for her. I am starting to buy her own utensils for her food preparation. Any recommendations and advise for me? Thanks a lot
