Hello sis, how old na yung kids mo? Most airline kasi 0-24 months libre, pag lumagpas na full fare talaga pero me allowed baggage na din. You can bring baby's essentials-bottles,water,medicines hand carry.
God bless on your trip!

hi! 0-yr babies are not free of airfare... mga 30% ata ng adult fare ang sa babies then u have to apply for tax exemption @ DOT para wala siya tax sa fare so may discount ka pa... btw, san ba destination nyo sis? international ba or domestic? based sa experience namin sa singapore ganun yung ginawa namin,, i forgot how much exactly the fare was, pero 1k+ din yung tax eh... my son was 5months old then...

you can bring: baby bottles with water, babie's needs pero as much as possible no any other liquids, gels, aerosols etc...
strollers are to be hand carried and surrendered at the aiplane door...
if infant make him/her suck his pacifier during take-off para hindi masakit sa ears...

baggage allowance for babies: 10kgs (check-in)

may food na din sila na iseserve...  ;D

better inquire in your preferred airline about child's fare...
based sa PAL yan sis, i dunno sa ibang airline...

enjoy sis!!!

a lot had been discussed on tips on travelling with kids
http://www.smartparenting.com.ph/parentchat/index.php?topic=301.0 (http://www.smartparenting.com.ph/parentchat/index.php?topic=301.0)

To ans your question, Infants 2yo and below kahit sa lap lang nakaupo ay may bayad, 10% of regular airfare pero tax, fuel fee and other surcharges apply kaya parang nasa 50% na rin ang bayad. IF there's an airline promo mga P88 fares and the likes, hindi na applicable yung infant fare rate. TO be sure, ask the airline kasi iba-iba rin ang policy and computations nila.

tax lang po ang alam ko na binbayaran from 0-24 month after that age 30% na po ng adult fare. 10 kg ang allowed baggage for the child.

i will advised you to ask your pedia for the correct dosage of light sedation, specially for a long journey. naging problema ko po yan nung nag abroad kami with our 1.5 yrs old girl. umiyak ng umiyak at di nagpatulog. pero kung 3-4 hours trip lang just bring lot of toys to keep him/her busy.

i just recently experienced the same thing. we flew to guam with my baby at sa dami ng mga security checks specially if 1st time nyo eh kelangan talaga tulog si baby. my pedia prescribe benadryl para sleep si baby all the way. kung 1 dose lang naman kasi hindi makakasama un. buti nalng talaga kasi sa loob ng plane hindi kumportable talaga lalo pag may baby kaya mas maganda if sleep sya lalo na pag take-off and landing.

hi momi! baby ko and i, una nyang travel when she was a month old, from NY to SFO, thats 5 hours flight, nktingin lang sya s window kasi cgro gusto niya yung sinag ng sun s clouds :) tpos bawal liquids kaya wala kami dala water, pero my nbbili kc s states yung prepared milk na, liquid form, tpos ready to drink, nllgyan lang ng chupon.. kaya un.. after that, flight namin from sfo to mla, thats 11-12 hours ata, ayun ok naman sya, she was 1 month and a week i think... bbgyn ka ng bassinet ng flight attendant, kaso box type sya, pnget,hehe.. pero i suggest dala k ng comforter n baby para lagay mo s bassinet, and if ms gusto mo safe c baby, pwd mo naman sya kargahin throughtout the flight, pero meron lang instructions n dpt iblik s bassinet like take off or landing.. if 5 months n c baby mo, meron dn sila pnprovide n "carseat" :)

i hope this helps! also, ipacify mo sya when taking off and lading to prevent build up ng pressure s ears :D

if you need more help or info, pm me at ym: xiaoestacio

good luck mommy!!

My baby had her 1st flight when she was 21 days old.... although its was just an hour and a half flight... no fuss kasi she slept the entire flight,,, she just took her milk pag take off then pacifier the entire flight...

2nd flight naman when she was 4 months old... same journey... no fuss din... milk and pcifier lang sa plane...  :)

if i remember it correctly pwede naman ng liquid as long as it's for your baby (sa domestic flight it to ha) kc when we traveled my son was 6 or 7 months pa lang hand carry ko lahat ng needs niya pero yung water I just bought yung enough lang for the flight.

siguro mommy depende sa airline kasi kami last january lang with continental airlines they allowed naman yung bottles ng baby ko with water. siguro check mo nalng sa website nung airline if they allow that. baby ko pala pinabigyan ng pedia ko ng 1 dose of benadryl para sleep lang sya all through out the flight. ask your pedia rin if puwede na bigyan ng benadryl baby mo.

hello mga mommies!!! salamat sa pag share ng experience. my pedia advised me to give my baby benadryl kasi it also helps daw to relieves the ear pressure. pero kabado pa rin ako sa flight. waaahhh!!!! sana maki-cooperate baby ko.

^ yes sis hand carry ang stroller para you can use it pa inside the airport habang hindi pa kayo naka board.

Maybe you need to improvise a bag or be ready to tie your stroller with string before it will be taken from you.
Some airlines allow the umbrella type of stroller kasi maliit siya pag na-fold and can fit inside the stowage bin. Inquire nalang with your travel agency. Minsan, sa ticket naka print if the umbrella type stroller is allowed.
So far I haven't heard of anyone bringing walker at the airport. Kaya lang, like the stroller, it will definitely be asked from you before you board the plane and can also be prone to damage when thrown-in in the cargo area.

Hello m0mmies!

Me and my 6mos.old baby boy will also fly to HK to visit his dada on july 10. nagdecide kami na wag ng dalhin ang stroller niya baka kasi mahirapan ako, instead yung baby carrier na lang siguro ang gagamitin ko.

Regarding sa airfare, hubby paid around 15k for my ticket cebu pacific may connecting flight pa un from tagbilaran. si baby walang pamasahe.

I'm going to travel too with my 7 months old baby 3 weeks from now (first time). I paid around 150 euro for my baby's fare (mine is around 1300 euro) so infant talaga eh konti lang bayad.  Dami ko din fears sa pagtravel kase its just me with my baby.  yung hubby ko kase eh after 1 week pa susunod (sobrang atat kase ako umuwi kaya di ko na naintay vacation niya). Tapos yung stroller ni baby medyo malaki (not the umbrella type), balak ko sana buy ng umbrella type bago umuwi pero since I read here somebody brought a graco stroller or just like Mommy Jazz says, I'd rather ask the airlane which type of stroller is allowed. At sana maging safe travel at free from A(H1n1) virus!!!

When we boarded kinuha yun stroller but pag dating namin it was right in front of the door ng plane  ???
Kasi wala naman kahit ano, not even a scratch  ;)

we flew back here from the province after a month of giving birth last march..

yung 5 yr.old daughter ko full na yung byad

then yung infant 20% yung byad niya.

tip lang if you'll riding with an infant, at the final approach of the plane you need to feed the baby coz it will damage his/her hearing if you will not...

we went to HK disneyland when my son was only 5 mos., and the travel was tolerable. He was a bit fussy but most of the time he's just playing, naglalambitin sa upuan! According to his pedia, after 2 weeks of life pwede na ibyahe si baby but make sure your milk bottle and pacifier are both ready especially during take off and landing, nadidistract si baby and at the same time may movement ang facial muscles niya (it lessens daw the pressure). Kapag over na ang discomfort niya, you can give the baby benadryl daw.

I guess, my son enjoyed the flight, he stared and smiled to the most beautiful cabin crew in the plane. ;D

Hi Mommies,

I heard best din daw para sa toddlers natin (2-4 y/o) and even kids yung mag chew ang bubble gum when the plane is about to fly and land.  Para daw di sila mabingi.

True ba yun??
Title: Re: airplane ride / flying with children / infant
Post by: Mommy Jazz on October 22, 2009, 11:50:25 am
Yes. Chewing and sucking from a bottle (for babies) relieves pressure in the ears. During take off and landing, the cabin's pressure changes to adjust to the altitude. The pressure in our ears are affected. It has to equalize with the changing pressure of the cabin. For adults, chewing gum is also good and so as yawning. Cotton buds and earplugs aren't effective. Kaya mahirap mag travel when you have colds because our ears are blocked no matter what you do. Tale cold relief medicines before you board.

Thanks a lot Mommyjazz.
I will surely buy chewing gum.  I have it noted on my list of thing to bring in bohol.
Yes, I felt that blocked ear due to colds when I flew to Taiwan last June 2009.  Grabe is in parang sasabog yung ears ko, kahit anong blow and yawn ang gawin ko. I drank cold relief b4 the departure but it doesnt work..My friend just gave me a menthol candy and I'm glad it worked!  ;)

This is so true, i experience this recently with my son.... what I did, I have to stand up in the aisle para mag-hele sa kanya pag ok na to remove the seatbelt buti na lang maraming vacant seats then upo ulit. or sometimes the crew would assist him when his walking sa aisle...thankful ako mabait sila. so sucking from the bottle, cold reflief medicine, chewing gum, lollipop, candies did'nt work with him.

Going back to Manila naman,he slept for a while I thought ok na, then he cried for the last 30-45 mins of the trip until we landed sa airport, kasi this time no vacant seats. Di sya maka-play around. Lately, i realized this is maybe due to his colds and yung pressure sa ears niya.

hi everyone! it's nice to know may thread na about this topic as i am in the same dilema right now and i badly need some "comforting words" from moms like you, kahit medyo matagal na yung topic :) my now 1 yr and 4 month old son has ridden a plane with us to hk and back when he was 1yr and 1 week old. he slept throughout the flight, good! but the thing is, my husband was with us that time and it was just a 1.5hr trip. now, i will be travelling alone with this little boy on a 9hr trip to Dubai on Wednesday night. I'm hoping and praying he will also sleep the entire flight...He's still considered infant as per airline rule so I would have to carry him on my lap the whole time... thought I know the airline provides bassinets. I really don't know what to expect on this flight. Wish me luck moms!

Title: Re: airplane ride / flying with children / infant

@rdan19: for me, masyadong pang maaga ibyahe ang 3 weeks old baby.

@rdan19 & moonriver:  we travelled from Manila to Iloilo before with barely 4-month old baby.

ang advised ng medical staff ng PAL, kailangan walang sipon baby during the travel. baka kasi di niya makakayanan ang air pressure at sasakit ears niya that triggers crying at lalo mag-clogged nose. babies daw kasi humihinga using their nose lang. during the takeoff and landing, dapat magmi-milk/water ang baby kasi sucking can reduce the effect of air pressure to ears.

^hi sis darling!

First time ng son ko sumakay Feb last year, he was 4 months old that time, next week will be his second plane ride at excited na kaming umuwi sa probinsiya. Buti maganda panahon noon at di ako nahilo kakasayaw.

Effective rin sis na may dala kang laruan yung gustong gusto niya para maaliw siya, o di kaya video ng favorite cartoon character niya, papanoorin habang nasa biyahe, of course huwag kalimutan ang dede, diaper, wipes, extra damit, jacket, o blanket.

My daughter was 13 months old when she first rode the plane. She's 20 months already and her 10th plane ride was just last month. My advice is during take off and landing, offer your child something to swallow like milk. if she's old enough to take solids then let her eat something para mawala young pressure sa ears niya.

Some says that giving cetirizine before the flight can calm her down. i'm just not sure if how many hours before the flight so better consult your pediatrician para sure and kung totoo din. :)

Also kung merun favorite blanket or stuffed toy c baby, it's better to bring it. I always bring my daughter's favorite stuffed turtle whenever we travel because she always looks for it when it's her milk time. Kahit na panget n young itsura ng stuffed toy niya, dinadala pa din namin, even if we went to singapore dala pa din namin kahit san kami pumunta para maging comfortable sya.

Tapos best sana kung and scheduled flight nyo sabay sa sleeping time niya para matulog lang sya the whole trip.

I agree with mamie vera that you bring the necessary things plus water, snacks, vitamins and medicine (e.g. paracetamol, nasal drops, anti-histamine, etc.)

Also make sure before riding the plane n hnd pa puno ng wee wee or hnd pa nakapagpoopoo c baby sa diaper niya para may time ka pa magpalit sa airport. medyo mahirap din kasi gumalaw sa toilet ng airplane dahil maliit lang yung gagalawan mo diba? :)

I also suggest that you bring backpack as a hand carry for baby's things para hnd kayo mahirapan magdala. Kami ng husband ko isa lang and hand carry namin.. yung backpack full of baby's things! :)

That's all I want to suggest for now. If you want more help just let us know. :) have a safe and happy trip with your baby! :)

How old is your baby? you can make him or her chew gum during take off and landing to help get rid of the pressure that builds in the ear. If he or she is too young for that, just let your child munch on something or pretend to chew.

my son was two when we went home to the philippines at first time nyang mag-plane ride. dami kong dala na "treats" for him...washable crayons, washable markers, paper, coloring sheets, his favorite toy car, and some new toys (na first time nyang makita) para excited sya to play with them. and yes, let him drink his milk during take-off to avoid the painful ear-popping.  :)

chloe was 11 months during her first plane ride. we brought some toys, food, water and basic meds as hand carry, things that would keep her busy. buti na lang at na enjoy naman niya. she even tried to go down and crawl sa aisle hehe. last month (her 5th time on a plane, at 26 mos), she really enjoyed it. we let her take the window seat, and most of the time she was looking outside, pointing and calling out things that she saw.  nahiya nga kami kasi ang ingay ingay niya hahaha. how old ba si baby mo? let's pray for a smooth trip para enjoy si baby :)

First time din na sumakay sa plane ng anak ko when she was 2 years old (turning 3) and it was a 10 hour flight. I brought things na inadvise sa akin na dalhin: dimetapp (although I don't recommend this, I just made sure that I have everything na makakatulong), her favorite toys, milk in a bottle daw to drink para di masakit sa ears, etc.

Nagulat ako sa daughter ko kasi mas kalmado pa sya sa akin and she looked so curious and so behaved. I told her you have to wear the seat belt all the time so nakaupo lang sya sa seat niya. And the airline provided activities for her kaya she seemed to enjoy her 1st airplane ride. I'm such a worry-wart mommy. Hehe... Ngayon, yung kaba ko pag sumasakay sa plane, nawawala because of my daughter. Baliktad, I know, but I'm learning a lot din from her. Hehe...

As a response to complaints of having difficulty sleeping because of children crying, Malaysia Airlines recently confirmed that for their A380 planes, they will be creating a child-free section. ...With the new rule being implemented, families with kids 12 years old and below will not be allowed

Mommies, do you think this is rather discriminating or convenient for both parties?

^I dont mind at all and I think it's fair too. Not all adults can tolerate kids and I respect that. It's not as if Malaysia Airlines totally banned kids. Marketing lang yan, of course if they wanna attract more business travellers, they have to make the trips more conducive too. On a daily basis, ang daming people from Singapore and Malaysia who travel back and forth to these countries for business meetings.

The A380 is really big too. I've been in this plane when I was still working for SIA and they got their first A380, I'm sure there will still be plenty of room for travellers with kids.

What you need to bring depends on how old your kids are. :)

If they're preschoolers and older, try to give them a backpack each with
- a change of clothes
- a pair of shoes
- a book
- toy / iPad

If you're traveling with a baby, just make sure you keep milk in your carry on and keep it with you - not in the overhead bin - so you have access to it when your child is hungry.

These are the basics but if you want more, go to: http://goo.gl/slqDM (http://goo.gl/slqDM)

^ I condition niyo na po yung bata about seatbelt days before the flight. Kung may toy siya na car na sinasakyan, improvise a strap on that para kunwari seatbelt. When riding a car or taxi, sanayin na siyang mag seatbelt. When he plays with car toys, make a seatbelt for the figures. Sa bahay, if he has his own chair, place a seatbelt (waist type lang) on that he can put on when watching TV or playing video games. Make it a requirement na dapat nakakabit yun if he wants to watch TV. It's a matter of conditiioning the child and orienting him on what and how to use a seatblet. Hindi naman sa gusto kong takutin ninyo ang bata but even if only 1 passenger refuses to put on a seatbelt kahit bata lang, pag ayaw sumunod sa flight attendant, the FA can report that to the Captain and delay the flight. No seatbelt, no take-off.

First time din ni baby sasakay ng airplane this June, he's turning 2 pa lang.

Then yung emergency medicines? Puro hand carry kasi dala namin. Thanks!  :)

^I'll answer that if I may. We had our daughter's bottles and milk powder on our carry on luggage as well. Pati extra bottles niya we put in our carry on cus I was afraid na ma mishandle our baggage tapos andon yung mga bottles ng anak ko. Yung medicines, you can carry too but only enough for the baby's consumption on the flight.

^Yup!

hello mommies out there. do you think ok na itravel si baby mga about 10 month old going to Bora. hindi kaya hassle na magdala ng mga f.bottles, diaper and the likes most esp if 4 days yon. To think a baby can't enjoy pa naman the scenery. I am not decided kase to bring my baby or not eh though nakabook na kame. First time ko kase magtatravel with a baby. I am afraid baka magiiyak sya sa plane.

Advise naman mga mommies. TIA

Hi queenbee

That's one of my dilemmas also......We're planning to go to HK between Feb-April....Iniisip ko, ok na bang dalhin si baby sa hongkong? 1 yr and 7-9 months na siya that time....

Maaapreciate niya kaya ang Disneyland at Ocean adventure?
Thoughg pag nasa mall kami, tuwang-tuwa na sya sa mga disney characters na nakikita namin.....Toys man or damit or kahit poster.......

Any opinion / advice?

Pareho tayo ng iniisip Queenbee eh...Thanks for sharing this topic ha

i don't think baby will be able to appreciate or even remember the trip sis. but if you decide to bring along your baby, i advise you to bring enough formula and diaper lang for 1day, tapos bili ka na lang dun sa destination mo.

sa plane, may konting pressure na mararamdaman si baby esp at take-off, so at this time kung di sya tulog, bigyan mo sya ng milk or pacifier para di sumakit tenga at di sya umiyak, and bring toys.

ako kasi pinapatulog ko talaga. pero just in case magising, meron na ready milk or pacifier.

It's a good thing less than an hour lang trip going to Bora.

For those travelling with their babies, here's a few tips I've learned when I travelled with my 4 months old son:

1. Bring a photocopy of his Birth Certificate, just to be on the safe side. I had a cousin who was stopped by the Immigration and had to show her IDs, etc. just to prove na sila parents, lalo na if going abroad.

2. Just bring your diaper bag with you. It should have 2 sets of clothes, in case of  emergencies, wipes, diaper, pacifier, milk ni baby (depending on how long the flight is). Kapag landing and take-off, try to feed the baby or use his pacifier. yung favorite toy din niya, just to entertain him during the flight.

3. Sa luggage naman, eto lesson learned, don't bring too many baby clothes, my baby ended up not using everything I brought with me.Sa diapers, just bring the small pack, and buy na lang there. Same goes with the water, wipes or anything which can be bought there naman.

4. About the memories naman, obviously the younger they are, they wouldn't remember a thing. Tama sabi ni sis na you could show pictures naman when they are older na.

5. Prepare to be verrry tired. Especially, if your little one needs to be carried around pa. Also, I suggest  that you should bring his stroller. Although hassle sa byahe, but you will be thankful kapag you don't have to carry the baby all the time. Kasi kami, iniwan ni hubby yung stroller, ayun we have to carry him lage, kahit tulog sa mga kainan nakakarga pa kasi nga walang mapag-lagyan.

Good luck mga mommies and have a safe and fun trip.

hindi naman strict sa airport regarding bringing of water/milk for babies. given naman siya since they do not serve formula milk. usually iiyak lang naman ang baby pag sasakit yung ears nila due to change in pressure in the plane. if that happens, let him drink from his bottle. basta dapat magswallow siya palagi (especially during take-off/landing). bring toys, books, etc to keep them entertained also, especially for long flights.

happy flying! :)

Hi sis. My daughter was 5 months old when we first took her to HongKong. 2 hours plane ride. Based on my experience, mas madali pa nga ibyahe ang babies kasi usually tulog lang sila sa plane. Now that she's already 2, very impatient na. What we do is before take off, binibigyan namin siya milk. Sabi nga ng pedia niya kahit food daw pwede. Basta anything that she can chew and swallow makakatulong daw yun. Pero mas effective samin ang milk. Then same thing din pag maglland na.

Pero if you dont have to go to cebu naman agad, you can wait kahit mga 2 or 3 months lang para atleast sanay and kabisa mo na moods ni baby. Hindi ka mahihirapan sa byahe.

Good luck 😀

my family went to boracay last december, my daughter was only 14 months old then.

i was also worried about the ear pressure pero her pedia assured me she's old enough to handle it and kids her age won't have problems with it. so all in all, ok naman.

now i'm undecided if isasama ko si baby sa singapore sa december, she'd be 2yo and 2 mos old then. initially plan ko ako lang and my cousins pero naawa ako iwan ng matagal. we've never been apart for more than 1 night since birth.  :'( baka ma-miss ko ng sobra.  ;D

hi hanne :) if yan pinaka concern, isama mo na siya :) mag e-enjoy na rin siguro siya sa sightseeing at her age :) mas manageable na rin siguro sa biyahe (sana :D) very child friendly dito sa singapore, so going around will not be a problem for sure with a little one, at least quality time pa ;)

agree! hehe unang beses na plane ride ng baby namin, 3 months siya on that 3.5-hour flight! kaloka, half ng flight iyak ng iyak :( half ng flight tulog na tulog sa pagod sa kaka-iyak. pero siguro with your little one, mas manageable na ;)

we had a Boracay trip when our son was 3 months old. At take off and landing, i nurse him. the sucking and swallowing helps avoid ear discomfort from air pressure changes.

we had a lot of travels after that, and it was easier when he was younger. all he does is sleep and feed :)

Makes trips with your little ones more fun, because not only can your child store their things in them, but they can also ride on them!

Hi mommies!

Will be travelling this Christmas to Taiwan with my 1 year old son. We're excited! Sana maging smooth ang flight namin.

Question lang: diba there's a restriction when it comes to liquid? Sa airport security, 100ml lang? Eh per bottle ng baby ko more than 100mL ang nilalagay namin since yun ang iniinom ni baby. Ok lang ba yun? Or would you advice na dun sa airport na kami mag buy ng water? Dun sa waiting area.

One more, ok lang ba ang powdered milk for handcarried luggage? Kasi  magdadala kami ng box ng milk para no need na to buy sa taiwan. Should we check that in or pwede naman sa handcarried luggage?

Thank you mommies. Your replies are appreciated. :)

I flew in my 17 days old (minimum requirement to sa cebupacific) son from Iloilo to Manila January of 2013. I had 2 baby bags, 3 extremely heavy luggage and a baby.

I was expecting for special assistance from Zest Air crew but it was to no avail. That time kasi, medyo malayo pa ni-lang ng plane so we had to descend the airport and walk going to the plane. Just image how hard it was.

I fed my baby when we were about to land and take off para mabawasan ang air pressure. He obliged. hahaha!
