it's best to consult a pedia dentist regarding kiddie toothpaste. madami kcing available na kiddie toothpaste in the market pero syempre there maybe contents that are not child friendly so it's best to consult an expert.

Ofcourse, what i have provided is recommended by baby's pedia. It's a protocol to consult an expert specially if it concerns our babies.  :)

hi! i used Sansflou for my boys when they were 3-12months old...
now, since they already know the proper way of brushing their teeth, i make them use colgate for kids...

nalilito ako, sabi ng iba it's best to use flavored toothpaste sa kids para maenjoy at ganahan sila mag brush ng teeth nila.sabi naman ng iba flavored toothpaste is a no no sa tots kc they may swallow it na akala nila it's something edible.

hi, my kids are using pigeon toothpaste...

dati na naming gamit yung pigeon, tapos when i learned about sansflou, we used it until we discovered that it has saccharin...i read from an article that saccharin can cause cancer...most toothpastes contain saccharin to add flavor, but it's a no-no for young kids kc hindi pa sila marunong mag-spit out pag nagba-brush so they could swallow it..kaya we stopped using it na and balik sa pigeon

youngmom, siguro that's the reason why hindi ok ang flavoured toothpaste sa young kids, kc possible na may saccharin content

flouride is also not good for very young children as it may cause flourosis due to excessive swallowing of flouride...eto yung merong white spots sa teeth

hindi kaya mommy rmi your baby's toothpaste was placed on a hot place? or there is a lot of sun exposure kaya nag me melt sya? kc dapat room temp lang sya eh.

si young mom naman how about the babies who have sensitive teeth? hehe d kaya mangilo mga milk teeth nila sa lamig pag nilagay sa ref? hehe  :D i think is unneccessary. wala lang opinion lang  ;)

My son had his 1st dental check up when he turned 1. the dentist suggested Xylogel. It is a toothpaste from natural plants that has a cooling & healing effect. Can be used for infants esp. if teething.  Bubble gum flavor. My son loves it.

i know, its out of the topic but what about on cleaning the baby's mouth? like, my baby is 10 months old and i still use the old school way - wet cloth wiping the surface of the tounge and inside of the cheeks. is it still effective? my pedia says it still safe. but what about you guys? any thoughts?

Hi there! I'm a mom of 2 and again expecting, you may want to check out - "Spiffies baby toothwipes with xylitol", more info on this website www.spiffies.com - it can be used as early as 4 mos., before any teeth eruption, during teething, as well as when the teeth are out already - available at some pediatric dental offices and online at http://brusselsprouts.multiply.com/photos/album/26/SPIFFIES_FOR_BABYS_TEETH_ . Please visit the link to see moms' comments about the product.

I used a silicone toothbrush (one that fits my finger) without toothpaste to clean my son's gums and then his teeth from 1 month to 1.5 years old. Then as recommended by his pedia I switched to a kiddie toothbrush with Sansfluo toothpaste (available sa Watson) that is safe even when swallowed since it has no fluoride (which aside from causing fluorosis, fluoride intake can also cause daw bone cancer especially in boys). About the carcinogenic saccharin (which is an artificial sweetener), Sansfluo toothpaste does not contain such ingredient. I checked syempre and Sansfluo's contents are: Purified water, aloe vera extract (keeps gums healthy), sorbitol, glycerin (sweet-tasting, low toxicity and does not feed the bacteria that form plaques and cause dental cavities), hydrated silica, cellulose, XYLITOL (non-carcinogenic and encourages remineralization of enamel at onset of tooth decay), sodium carboxymethyl, sodium benzoate, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, strawberry or orange flavor. Sansfluo is from Health Amendments, Inc., Blanco Center, L.P. Leviste St., Salcedo Village, Makati City.

By the way, when my son turned one, after his teeth were brushed, I no longer allow him to ingest anything including milk. It's bad daw for the teeth to let him sleep with a bottle of milk or juice in his mouth because the sugar turns into acid causing tooth decay.

O di ba, ganda ng teeth ni Eon... :)

:) mommy pinkyn, cute naman teeth niya! ako, my son kasi right now eat sweet foods (chocolate, candies) though minimal lang naman, reward ko kasi yun sa kanya pag nauubos niya yung food niya. So, i make it a point na after eating sweets eh toothbrush ko talga siya kasi ayaw ko rin masira agad ang ngipin niya. right now, i used happee toothpaste and sometimes alternate with chicco toothpaste, before nung baby pa siya i used sansflou.
Baka di ko na rin paubos yung happee toothpaste kasi may flouride content siya minsan kasi pag wala siya sa mood eh nalulunok niya pag gargle na siya. para safe balik na lang ako ng sansflou or any tutpaste na may xylitol and non flouride, my son btw is 2.5 year old.

Thanks mommydheng! Buti pa nga son mo he's younger pero he knows na how to gargle and spit it out. I don't know why they are still selling the PolyviFlor vitamin and fluoridated water when there are already studies that fluoride can be harmful at certain levels to kids 2 years old and below.

Fluoride intakes over 2.5 mg/day in children may cause mottling of the teeth and I've read a research that excessive fluoride intake can make bones more brittle instead of reducing bone demineralization. In addition, that same research stated that fluoridated water might have caused bone cancer in young boys. Sorry ha, I've read it in 2005 pa so I didn't copy the link. When I'm into a certain topic kc I jump from one article to another. Anyway, that research was published online so I can still look for it.

hi mommy pinkyn, try to check the box and the tube...i'm not sure if which one yung merong nakalagay na saccharin eh...medyo weird nga lang kc hindi pareho yung nakalagay na ingredients...the first time i checked it, i was looking at the tube, so na-check ko walang saccharin, so continue pa rin ako ng paggamit..then the next time na bumili ako...pagdating sa house, chineck ko ulit yung box, then dun ko nakita na meron saccharin...you can double check.

Hi! Definitely wala sa Sansfluo tube kc I just checked it yesterday kaya naisa-isa ko ingredients in my reply. I don't seem to remember that the Sansfluo toothpaste was sold in a box sa Watsons kc parang plastic vacuum-packed sya. And since dun sa Sansfluo nabili ko eh may glycerin na then bakit pa naman magkakaroon ng saccharin eh same lang naman silang artificial sweetener?

mommy pinkyn, yung nakita ko sa watsons last week eh nakabox ang sansflou kahit nung una kong bili nun (july last year) nakabox siya at sa sm ko pa nga nabili yun, though hindi ko pa nacheck na magkaiba ng ingredients label yung nasa box at tube.

Haler mommies!
My kid is also using Sansflou. When I bought it in Watsons ganito hitsura non:ang box niya nakavacuum -packed and sa loob na yong toothpaste tube.Ok naman daw ang toothpaste na yon sabi ng dentist namin kahit binili ko lang sya ng walang instructions from the pedia or hehe. Its orange flavor.
Before I let my son do brushing of his teeth, nalearn niya muna how to do it with the colgate commercial na si Dr. Rabbit(yong chikichikchik chikichik all day na song). So as he watched it he knows na kapagtoothbrush its used for brushing the teeth.I also let him watch videos on how to brush teeth properly-kahit di ko sure naintindihan niya dahil 1 pa lang sya- I let him watched it several times. So kahit flavored toothpaste niya after water nilalabas niya talaga from his mouth lahat ng liquid. But ok lang naman to swallow Sansflou eh no flouride naman yon.It lessen the toxicity from your child.

hi mommies.  sa toothpaste, i used sansflou for my yancy from the time nagka ngipin siya, konting konti lang.  i started her with this toothpaste kasi walng sugar component at hindi nakaka discolor ng ngipin.  pag kasi colored toothpaste tapos aga mo ginamit sa baby me possibility madiscolor ngipin nila.  ito din sabi ng dentist namin.  we noticed kasi dun sa 2 cousins niya (5 and 4 yrs old) noong bata pa sila and they used hapee na colored red, nagdi discolor teeth nila. so i told my sis to shift to sansflou.  now na bigger na sila, we give them hapee na cookies and cream flavor using toothbrush na pang age nila. tapos, mumug talaga dapat, walang lunukan hehe

She recommend any toothpaste that has no artificial colors sabi niya basta white daw gamitin ko.. may sinabi siyang floucaril toothpaste? ???

me, i use sansfluo toothpaste for my daughter, kahit wala pa ciang ngipin, i massage her gums with the toothpaste on clean cloth kasi dentists recommend this in preparation for milk teeth...kasi sansfluo dont have fluoride and has xylitol instead, ok cia kahit malulon ni baby! kasi may certain effects ang excessive amounts of fluoride...i checked fluocaril and meron cia! dunno, sabi naman pedia mo so baka ok naman...

good am mommies...i think depende din sa dentist yung toothpaste n gagamitin o irerecommend nila.  some dentists di alam yung sansflou, meron naman yun agad irecommend.  pero true ka mommy, me harmful effect and flouride sa mga bata, and meron ng sansflou for tweens yung age 6 to 12 ata yun, sa watsons ko siya nakita. meron din adult toothpaste minsan na kasama ang sansflou, okey kung xylitol kasi ako heavy coffee drinker, so me coffee stain before teeth ko, pero after using xylitol, nag lighten na siya even if the same consumption ko ng kape, ay bakit ba napunta sa kape e toothpaste ito, hehe.

My son is 17 months old and he uses Pigeon toothpaste. I bought him Oral B toothbrush Stage 1.  Since he doesn't know how to spit out after brushing, I don't put toothpaste everyday... every other day lang. Kasi he swallows it. Kahit sabi ok lang to shallow.  I brush his teeth twice a day. Tapos wipe ko tongue niya once a day with cloth and water.

sis bong, meron nga nakalagay na saccharin.. di naman daw bad un from what i read... :)

excerpt from http://www.medicinenet.com/artificial_sweeteners/page5.htm

Out of the five FDA approved nonnutritive sweeteners, saccharin is often chosen to be the safest one. The FDA's guidelines on the use of saccharin for beverages are not to exceed 12 mg/fluid ounce, and in processed food, the amount is not to exceed 30 mg per serving. The Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) for saccharin is 5 mg/kg of body weight. To determine your ADI, divide your weight in pounds by 2.2 and then multiply it by 5.

i've read from mom's who are using GC Tooth Mousse on their kids' teeth to avoid further decay. This is good especially if the kid is still bottle fed. It's a bit pricey (as i have researched on the net) and it's not available on the local market. One dentist from Asean Hospital sells it.

I would like to try this on Yona since her 2 front teeth are showing some weakness na.

Me sis I used toothbrush na pang 0-6months na kaagad and toothpaste(Sansflou).I actually asked my pedia about those wipes. She let me choose what toothbrush and toothpaste I'd like to use. ;D
Bout sa padia dentist naman, pumunta kami but sabi right time para mgpacheck is 2 yrs daw kasi full grown na non ang 1st set of teeth niya. ;)  :D
Hope this would help. ;)

pareho tayo mommy ale! my son naman turned 11mos old. p lang pero i let him nibble his toothbrush dati pa kaya medyo nasanay na.in fact favorite niya mga toothpaste commercials.he has 8 teeth na at may mga nakabukol pang iba, kaya i want to formally start using toothpaste na rin.so far, sa dentist na napagtanungan ko, ok daw sansflou.thou marami din akong good feedbacks sa healthy options na toothpaste brand nila for kids.

so far ang gamit ko na toothbrush is from sassy mam, 239 pesos if you buy it sa mothercare.magkano po ba yung oral b stage 1?kasi nakita ko sa website nila ang cute ng mga designs kaya interesado na ko bumili.anyways, every 3 mos naman ang palitan ng toothbrush.
available ba to sa mga malls or sa dental clinics lang?

thanks

I must have  been living inside a cave. I have no idea there are specialty toothpaste for the little ones.

This is not a plug for a certain brand of toothpaste, but when my kids were still small and learning to brush their teeth, the only toothpaste readily available was Colgate. So that's what they used.

My five children must have liked Colgate very much because my son Kevin would brush his teeth almost seven times a day.  My eldest daughter would eat the toothpaste for snack, and the rest would drink the water laced with Colgate as if it were soft drink.

When the children reached age 10 and early teens, it' became a daily struggle, a World War of sorts, trying to coax them intro brushing their teeth. The brand name had no effect on them. Colgate, Close-up or whatever, they had only one reaction: deadma lang.

Go figure.

I hope one day the toothpaste guys will invent toothpaste that tastes like Jollibee or Mc Donald's hamburgers. That would solve lots of parents' frustrations in  making children brush their teeth.

sansflou talaga sis ang pang-introduce sa babies. AK used it when she was 7mos old, nung nagstart na magngipin and 6mos naman nung nagsolid food na sya. pedia niya mismo ang nagsabi.

it can be bought in mercury drug stores. not sure with grocery stores.

she has switched to colgate for kids when she turned 1year old. until now she uses colgate.

leodini, my AK too loves to brush her teeth. any thing that she's into, she'll leave it, and run as fast as she could to get to me (at the sink) super excited mag-toothbrush.

hi sis, i bought Sansfluo just this week too. my son is 1.7 yrs old already. medyo late na nga akong bumili, coz late ko narin na-discover this kind of toothgel specially made for babies and little kids.

maganda kc masarap sha and walang fluoride... mjo maanghang kc yung fluoride eh.  di rin sha bumubula, kaya ok lang malunok ng babies lalo na di pa sila marunong mag-gargle.

yung regular toothpastes kc, may fluoride.  di p kc maganda yung fluoride sa milk teeth ng baby coz nakakabrittle un ng teeth nila. fluoride is for permanent teeth, not for out babies' milk teeth.

With my baby di ako nahirapan para mag toothbrush sya. As early as 6 months kahit wala pa sya ipin, I started giving him his toothbrush, I got the Pigeon toothbrush set. Kahit di pa sya marunong maglinis ng ipin niya, I let him play with the toothbrush tuwing nililigo ko sya. Kahit walang toothpaste yung importante is ma-familiarize sila with the use of the toothbrush.

I also use sansfluo because it claims that it has no fluoride but recently i notice that some portion of my son's teeth appears to have some "chalk-like" stains.I read somewhere that this is a sign of too much fluoride, will have it checked soon.

si ysai ko hapee kiddie toothpaste apple flavor, so far type naman niya, kaya lang hindi pa marunong mag-gargle si baby pano po yun? ok lang ba malunon niya yun? may masamang effect ba pag di dinura yung toothpaste? sabi kasi sa box do not swallow e bata yun so hindi niya talaga iluluwa yun.. and also for babies 2 years old and below, ano pong water ang gamit nyo pag mag-ga-gargle na sila, tap or yung inumin din nila?

Hello po. I'm using aquafresh or oral B stage 1 toothbrush for my daughter (available in grocery stores). I tried pigeon pero it's too soft, dali na masira. At 22 months almost complete na kasi ngipin niya. Patubo na molars. We're also using sansfluo toothpaste eversince. Kahit nung wala pa syang ngipin I use sansfluo gum wipes (gauze sya). :)

hi mommy caramel!! Pareho tayo first time mom din ako. You can try Pigeon Toothpaste and Toothbrush...  About how my son learn to brush his teeth...What i did is sinasabayan ko mag toothbrush yung baby ko, 1 week wala pang toothpaste akong nilalagay, ako yung nag brush ng teeth niya of course mild lang and after ;) guide ko na siya while holding his brush after 1 week nilagyan ko na ng toothpaste little by little makikita mo na he's learning brushing his teeth, about the gargle yung baby ko di pa rin siya gaano marunong. Mga Mommies share naman how your child learn to gargle...  ;)

toothpaste: pigeon, orange flavor
toothbrush: oral-b stages

pigeon yung mga una nyang toothbrush. pero nung nagka teeth na talaga sya, i switched to oral-b kase nasasaktan ang baby ko dun sa bristles ng pigeon.

kelangan ko na din pala ibili si baby ng toothpaste. since 4mos old pa lang siya i started giving him gum brush para matuto na siya tapos change ko na lang ng age approriate brush kasi iba iba ang bristles nun e, tapos after he brushes i just wipe his mouth and tongue with a clean burp rag.he's using the nuby toothbrush which comes in a pack of 3, a gum brush then a mock toothbrush when he turns 9 months and an actual toothbrush for his pearly whites when. it costs 279php in landmark, trinoma.

My daughter used sanflou toothpaste orange flavor and oral b stages toothbrush. Nung first week  ako nagbrubrush ng teeth niya tapos the next week i show her how i brush my teeth tapos ginagaya niya ko,ngayon pag binibigay ko yung toothbrush niya alam na niya kung ano gagawin. About gargle mahirap pa niya matutunan may mga time talaga na nalulunok niya yung water and the toothpaste, tyagaan lang until she will learn to gargle and spit out the water.
Importante mga mamis she will learn na kailangan at dapat niya gawin ang pagtotoothbrush.

question: where do you brush your child's teeth? kasama nyo ba sya sa bathroom or sa sink? nako, mukhang bibili na din kami ng step stool ah  ??? pero pano yun, hindi ba malikot?

FIREFLY TOOTHBRUSH by DR. FRESH is now available Exclusively at Watsons and Beauty by SM Department Stores.

Float'N Firefly 42 MM Light Up Timer Toothbrush
Firefly light up technology teaches kids to brush their teeth for a minute.
•   This special Firefly toothbrush features bright glitters and one of three different Firefly
figure floating in the liquid.
•   Light up toothbrush comes with soft bristles.
Firefly timer toothbrush is the best selling kids toothbrush.

What kind of toothpaste should my child use?

Dentists recommend using only non-fluoride toothpaste for brushing up to the age of two. This is because young children tend to swallow toothpaste and swallowing too much fluoride can lead to tooth discoloration in permanent teeth. You only need to use a small pea size amount of toothpaste on the brush. After two, fluoride toothpaste can be used on your child’s teeth. Continue to use a pea size amount and teach them to spit out the toothpaste and rinse their mouth after brushing.

When should my child begin to floss?

As soon as you can see two teeth that touch, it is recommended to begin to floss your child’s teeth. This should be done once a day. When your child can floss on their own, they should continue to do so once a day between all teeth that touch.

What is the difference between baby teeth & permanent teeth?

Baby teeth, formally referred to as deciduous teeth are those that fall out. They appear in infants anywhere between six and ten months of age. Permanent teeth grow in after the baby teeth fall out. This process begins anywhere between five and seven years of age.

What are the different types of teeth in our mouth?

Teeth begin to form before birth and continue to do so throughout childhood. Each person has five different types of teeth: central incisor (front two upper and bottom teeth), lateral incisor (two teeth next to the upper and bottom front two teeth) canines (the pointy teeth) first molars (bottom and upper teeth in the back) and second molars (bottom and upper teeth located in the very back of your mouth). All of these various types of teeth look different from one another because they are designed to do different things.

What’s the best kind of brush to use?

A gentle brushing with a soft-bristle toothbrush is just as effective (and less damaging!) than a vigorous scrubbing with a stiff-bristle toothbrush.

How you can keep your teeth healthy?

Brush your teeth at least twice a day, once in the morning and right before you go to bed. Dentists recommend brushing your top and bottom teeth for a minute each. Replace the toothbrush every 3 months, or even sooner if it shows signs of wear. Never share toothbrushes between children.

How nutrition affects Oral health?

The foods that you eat come in contact with the germs and bacteria that live in the mouth. If you don't brush, plaque will accumulate on the teeth. Plague thrives on the starches and sugars that are found in a great deal of foods. When plaque combines with the sugars and starches, an acid is produced that attacks enamel on the teeth, and eventually causes decay.

I asked her if she likes it, sabi niya NO daw tas tinuro yung Oral-B stages yun daw toothbrush niya. hihi

So I switched to Oral-B.

mommies you can give your kids toothpaste with fluoride. yan naman talaga ang dapat kasi mas effective ang fluoride na pampatibay ng ngipin kapag pinapahid sa ngipin at hindi tinetake as supplements. you know need to apply pea size of toothpaste sa toothbrush, smear lang as in dampi lang sa toothbrush ang kelanngan, onting tubig at voola, mabula na iyon. before brushing ready a damp cloth or tissue since hindi pa sila marunong dumura. brush mo lang yung teeth up and down and tongue then wipe with cloth or tissue.
its ok kung ma-swallow nila yung iba since super onti lang naman ang pinahid mo sa brush super onting fluoride lang yun at hindi magkakafluorosis ang bata.

thanks mga sisters for this thread.. napaka useful talaga esp for me, first time mom!

upon reading this yesterday, i hurriedly went to Watsons after office hour and bought Sansflou.. good thing, there is still 3 tubes left.. Oral B stages naman, out of stock yung stage 1 w/c i believe is for infant to 12mos.. So I decided to purchase na lang silicone brush from Dept Store.. kakatawa nito, wala ng stock ng ibang case yung silicone brush kaya i ended up buying the fuschia one (btw, baby boy ang baby ko who just turned one lang last June 3).. before kasi, ang ginagawa ko is wipe lang his tongue, teeth and gums and usual drink of water lang para maalis yung milk and foodies na iniinom/kain niya.. then i found out na better ng simulan early yung introduction ng pagbrush ng teeth.. tks for the info..

so yun nga, nagstart na kami kagabi and im glad na gusto niya.. i bought Sansflou at Php96 sa Watsons SM North, strawberry flavor.. then kanina naman after taking him a bath and before ako pumasok sa office, nagbrush din siya.. and he loves it.. heheh

OT: how old was your baby when you first took him sa pedia-dentist?.. how was it?.. anong unang ginagawa nila kay baby?.. gusto ko na kasi siyang dalhin eh.. hehe

Ako pinagtatawanan ng mga IL ko kasi I brush baby's teeth daw way too early and besides milk teeth pa lang naman daw. Tsss.

Hindi nga ako nakinig sakanila :)

Ang gamit ko na toothpaste ay zwitsal in strawberry with flouride na siya pero I put lang pea size amount and rub on his teeth tapos brush brush na tapos wipe with cloth yung teeth and gums para hindi niya malunok.

Enjoy na si baby brushing teeh. He seldom bites na lang :)

Ako din I want to bring him to pedia dentist na sis hehe

^ ainge88, mee too sis gusto ko na din dalhin baby ko sa pedia dentist kasi nagkaroon ng stain yung teeth niya because of the vitamins. kaso baka mag-iiyak baby ko. gamet ko naman na toothpaste is pigeon. maaga kasi sya tinubuan ng teeth., around 5 months meron na syang 2 lower incisor, and ngayon 13 months na sya he got like 6 teeth sa baba and 6 teeth sa taas. incisors and molars niya complete na :) and now yung canine tumutubo na din.. unti na lang complete na milk teeth niya :)

@ just_memom: Based on my understanding to the Pedia dentist if my bay, safe naman ang sansflou, it is recommended for the babies for their tongue and gums. Pwedeng lunukin. Pero pag madami nang ngipin si baby, it is recommended na may flouride na ang gamitin kasi it protects the teeth of the babies from cavities.

^^Fluoride is good po.
You can start toothpaste with fluoride kasi kelangan ng teeth yun pampatibay kahit milk teeth lang.
Ang recommended na amount lang na pwedeng gamitin kapag nagttoothbrush si baby is smear lang ng toothpaste with flouride , not buong toothbrush, not even pea size (pea size is for adult).
Brush to baby's teeth then ready a damp cloth to wipe it, mabula na yun and ok lang kung hindi mo makuha lahat kasi very little lang ang fluoride ng pinahid mo, not harmful at all.

Sansfluo is like a toothpaste, just there to clean the teeth pro not really protect the teeth from stains and gingivitis, yun ang job ng fluoride. Not enough den ang vitamins na may fluoride, to make it effective it should be applied (topical application) to the teeth, not to be in take as supplements.

Flouride Warning: Toothpaste Dangers
Toothpaste is a common, everyday item, but have you ever read its contents? Commercial dental-care pastes usually contain one or more of these teeth/gum damaging ingredients — triclosan, fluoride, polyethylene glycols, surfactants (a.k.a. foaming agents such as sodium lauryl sulfate), toxic metals, artificial sugars, glycerin, hydrated silica and sodium hydroxide. Also, these ingredients are often found in so-called natural brands of toothpaste. It is wise to read all labels very carefully.

This article covers three common ingredients found in toothpastes and throws light on their pros and cons.

Fluoride

One of the most common components of toothpaste is fluoride. In simple terms, fluoride is a by-product of aluminum, copper, and iron manufacturing. Fluoride is thought to be a contaminant. It is a chemical ion of the chemical fluorine, where fluoride has one extra electron to give it an extra charge. The most common use of fluoride is in the realm of dental hygiene.

Long before fluoride come unto its own as a cavity preventer, it was used as insecticide. Today, there are conflicting views on the use of fluoride, and there is an ongoing debate on how good or bad it is for health.

The pros of fluoride

Fluoride works in two ways to protect teeth from decay and cavities. The combination of sugars and bacteria in the mouth produce an acid that causes tooth enamel erosion that damages the teeth. Fluoride protects the teeth from this demineralization. If the teeth are already damaged, fluoride starts collecting on the ‘spoilt’ areas, and the enamel is strengthened. However, fluoride will not be of much use if a cavity already exists.

Some level of fluoride is recommended by many governments in the world today for both children and adults. Children require fluoride to protect their new, permanent teeth, while adults need it to ensure there are no cavities or decays taking form.

The cons of fluoride

According to latest studies carried out by the ADA, Fluoride is fast being regarded as potentially dangerous element being sold under the guise of “good for teeth”. Slowly but surely, a fluoride-free propaganda is being put in to place to ensure there is no more exposure to it. As of now, Dementia in humans, due to exposure to fluoride, is said to double in the next two decades and triple in three.

There are many negatives that have been discovered by researchers. Some of these are simple things like:

Excess fluoride causes discolored and crumbling teeth
Laboratory animal testing has shown that fluoride influences an increase in the absorption of aluminum in the brain. Aluminum is what is found in the brains of patients with Alzheimer’s.
Fluoridation and hip fractures have been seen as related in as many as three different studies conducted by researchers.
Excess fluoride has had detrimental effects on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. This has lead to limited joint mobility, muscular degeneration, ligament calcification, and neurological deficits.
Different studies have found a link between fluoride and about 10,000 cancer deaths per year, where men who were exposed to fluoride in the long term developed a greater likelihood of suffering from bone cancer.

Care for teeth naturally

While brushing and rinsing has its own place in your daily dental hygiene routine, there are some natural ways to ensure that you always sport a perfect set of teeth. There is a lot to be said for home remedies, most of which have been handed down through the centuries:

If you rub your teeth with bay leaf twice a week, you get sparkling white teeth
Flossing is the ideal way for healthy gums to remain healthy
You should change your toothbrush post a cold or fever, as your old one will be carrying viruses and bacteria
Use natural teeth cleaners like crunchy foods
Raw apples, celery, and carrots do a good job of cleaning your teeth while you eat them
Avoid pasty foods like peanut butter. They stick to the teeth and are a welcome invitation for tooth decay
Cheese has calcium that will coat your teeth and help fight tooth decay
Natural apple cider vinegar strengthens teeth from the inside
Rinse your mouth after drinking natural apple cider vinegar, but don’t brush your teeth right after
Next, time you buy a toothpaste, make sure to check its ingredients.  For instance, check your toothpaste for the amount of fluoride it contains. Fluoride-free toothpastes are also available in the market. A sensible approach to dental hygiene will ensure you have a set of sparkling teeth and fresh breath at all times.

So far wala naman kaming iyakan session and sabi rin ni yaya gusto nga ni baby in fact mag toothbrush kasi nirurub yun teeth and gums niya :) nasanay rin kasi sa teether :) By the way i use pigeon toothbrush yun stage 1-3, right now using stage 2 (with 2 milk teeth kasi nakalagay:))

my baby brushes on in the morning with Sansfluo but she's trained not to swallow so iniipon niya lang laway ready for wipes.
at night she uses pepsodent yung pinakamaliit since January pa ang dami pa reng laman, hehe! onti lang naman kasi.
sabi ng Pedia and Dentist-Pedia ni baby ok lang daw gumamit ng toothpaste with fluoride basta controlled ang paggamit, old school na daw kapag hindi pa ren ginagamitan ng fluoride kahit milk teeth  :)
i bought Colgate stages 1 toothbrush today. Medyo expensive kaso i liked the brush coz its wide and mukhang madaling maabot yung ibang teeth kahit hindi masyado naka-AHHH si baby :D

Anong recommended na toothpaste for them?

My almost 10-month old baby uses pigeon lesson 1 toothbrush. I need to buy lesson 2 na pala. She has 5 teeth na.

She also uses chicco apple banana toothpaste. She likes the taste. Before that, sansfluo strawberry ang gamit namin and ayaw niya yung taste plus sansfluo has parabens so talagang papalitan ko din.

After brushing, we rinse her mouth using a sterile gauze wet with dr edwards water. Sometimes we also use spiffies grape flavor.

My son's toothbrush is OralB stages. P125 sa watsons.

Since mag 1yo si Enzo, use kong toothpaste sa kanya is Colgate for kids sa am. Oh well...  ::)

@ - Mommy Jo -, hi there!

But I read dito din ata sa thread na to na di naman altogether bad ang flouride as long as hindi madami. i used a smear lang talaga of toothpaste especially pag yung Colgate. E kaso umayaw sya sa colgate so I bought him Pigeon. Then I found out na di din naman pala sa toothpaste sya umayaw, talagang umaarte na lang!  ::) Hay, I have to find a lot of gimmick para ma brush ang teeth niya. basta I make sure na di sya magpa pass no matter how arte he gets!  :o

toothpaste niya is chicco apple banana flavor for 6m+. this is the only one she liked. pina-try ko pigeon, earth's best, sansfluo, lahat ayaw. buti ayaw din ng sansfluo, yan ang una kong tinry eh may parabens pala.

Hi Sis, 13th months na rin siya sa 18th. Actually this month lang siya nagstart, safety first na brush ang ginagamit ko sa kanya dati. Natuwa lang kase ko nung nakita ko siya sa mall, diba It lights up for 1 minute kaya may reminder talaga when to stop brushing. Walang music nabili ko, Php160.00 lang sa trinoma. Hello po. I used to struggle with my daughter din when it comes to brushing her teeth. I tried brushing with her and she likes it pero feeling ko hindi rin nalilinis yung ngipin niya pag sya ang nagb-brush pero ayaw din nyang ako ang mag brush sa kanya, so one time, inipit ko sya with her arms on the side (like riding a horse-- i'm not being sadista, I just want to make sure na na-brush teeth niya). You know what? She thought we were playing a game and she liked it. Hahaha... She struggled at first and kunwari mahuhulog ako and she liked it. Simula noon, sya na ang nagre-request for mommy to "ride the horse". Hehe... :) Whatever works for the both of you siguro.

By the way, we use orajel or aquafresh training toothpaste for my daughter. It's safe to swallow and she likes it and naalis yung sour milk smell unlike with sansfluo, feeling ko di pa rin nalinis yung mouth niya. As for the toothbrush, we use colgate 1 to 3 yrs.

Hello fellow mommies. It is very important that we all know the right toothpaste that we should use for our children and what is really our ultimate goal in cleaning the teeth. We want them to be free from cavities that can lead to pain and infection. But how can we know if our babies have early signs of cavities already?

What I do is I wipe her with gauze pad everytime I brush her teeth para konti lang din ang malunok niya.

hindi puwede sa baby mo ang may artificial flavor like bubble gum (Colgate) or orange (Sansfluo)?  Kung the usual mint toothpaste like Colgate, etc. puwede ba? When we had our teeth checked, both our pedia and dentist said that we dont actually need to use kidde toothpaste anymore if our son can handle the taste of our toothpaste. IF the child is at least a year old, puwede daw may flouride na ang toothpaste.  Better to check with pedia dentist to be sure. Kami na late sa ganito bec my son's pedia never mentioned this to us when we went to his clinic for vaccinations.

when my baby less than a year old, i let him use sansflou - strawberry flavor..dito ko lang din sa SP nalaman at nagka idea sa mga brandng toothpaste na puwede for kids.. walang naging problema ang anak ko sa pag brush - walang tantrums and all.

now that he is 2 y/o and 5mos, i let him use yung toothpaste namin - colgate, close up, hapee even nga unique toothpaste..so far natotolerate naman niya yung tasste PERO super tutok ako sa kanya while doing his brushing kasi nga di ba too much intake daw ng flouride masama.. ngayon naman, i let him use happee kids toothpaste - he tried na orange, bubble gum and currently, cookies n cream..

I switched my daughter's toothpaste to Hapee (elmo variant). While sansfluo is nice kase hinde talaga minty, it doesnt have fluoride naman na kelangan na sa teeth ng toddlers.

My son is 3 yrs old.  We also used sansfluo before and now colgate for kids (bubblegum flavor).  When we went to a dentist, she recommended to use the regular toothpaste with flouride bec my son is still drinking milk at least 6 times a day. Acidic daw milk so flouride will help. Since hindi pa ubos yung colgate bubblegum, I sometimes alternate.  Sayang eh! :)

She also recommended to put tooth mousse as added protection. She can see brown spots na on my son's teeth because of milk.
