I am also in the midst of preparation for my daughter's 7th birthday 3 months from now. We have a venue, entertainment and photo-video coverage. I am thinking of getting 1 supplier for the food, decorations, photo booth and giveaways. Please post about the advantages and disadvantages of getting 1 supplier or getting multiple suppliers.

I have a tentative color scheme and theme based on a classic children's story - Enchanted Wood. I have a clear vision of the decorations but these may cost me to go off my budget so I am scouting for things I can borrow. We watched a play last weekend and the moving trees and bushes seem promising (sana pwedeng mahiram! my brother said to ask his friend, the actor).

Thanks to RoGue for posting her experience with a Musical Theme party. Wow! Your daughter seems like a go-getter.

With my daughter, she still wants to have a Magic Show since she hasn't had one in her past parties. We may have a merry mix-up of a "traditional" magic show, the 7 roses/wishes/flowers dance, and a shortened musical theme since she had summer voice lessons and a solo number in a group recital.

Will do a back read and revisit this thread from time to time for updates.

Preschooler Age / Re: How early should a toddler begin schooling?
« on: June 14, 2012, 01:07:27 pm »
today is the first day of nursery classes of our 3 and 7 months-old daughter. in my assessment, she is ready for her school, which has a progressive philosophy and developmentally-appropriate activities.

though some schools say they are "progressive" or "montessori", the "traditional mode" is more pronounced in the type of activities they have, in accordance with their curriculum: nursery level with textbooks, quizzes and homework!

there is an emerging issue that cropped up during our "school-hunting" - the effect of the k-12 curriculum: most pre-schools have yet to comply and some are transitioning into compliance, either lowering the age requirements or changing curriculum.

next year, it appears that schools will accept kinder at age 5 (or even earlier if a child had at least a year of pre-school depending on the school) and grade 1 at 6 years old.

our kids will surely be affected, specially since it appears that deped itself has not provided clear guidelines on how to implement the k-12 program.

we did the zoobic safari some months back. we got season tickets, 6 visits to any of their zoos.

it's already open at 8am, when we got there at about 8:15am but we had to wait for others to form a bigger group. hay. after an hour na yata or more nag start mag tour.

it's a much bigger place and the tour ended about 1pm.

sis vanenie is selling discounted tickets to zoobic safari.

mommy france, the 4th show, which is the dolphin show, ends about 2:15pm. don't miss this since ito yung pinaka finale. actually show with dolphins and a 600 lb.-whale. before that is the sea lion patrol, which is also awesome, and bigger sea lions, with more tricks than the show in manila ocean park.

there is a restaurant inside the park but we didn't eat there so i don't know if ok food pero maraming tao din kumakain. 2nd show ends about 11:30ish and the 3rd starts about 1:15pm so may time talaga para mag lunch there, but not outside na since lalayo pa. we had 9:00am brunch but by the time shows were done, famish na kami.

you can see first the sea lions swimming through the glass, the small aquarium (not really one but several in a limited space). the best place for us to wait was inside the learning center, kasi walang tao and malamig aircon. it's more like a small library/classroom so ok for your kiddo.

be at the show venue at least 5 min. or more for good seats, lalo if madami tao. have fun!

again, not only ridiculous, but as i posted before, the saying is highly discriminatory to girls and women.

please sisses, hwag tayo mismo mag discriminate sa sarili natin by saying things na demeaning sa kababaihan.

Money / Re: What po ang stable na Educational Plan?
« on: December 01, 2011, 12:43:22 pm »
i was checking on this issue some months back, but still haven't decided if i'm getting one.

as per sunlife website, and as per my understanding, it stopped offering educational plans (kindly check again).

the more stable companies would be manulife (since the owners are also connected with the mapua institution) and philam (though i don't know how the aig crash has any effect on this).

will also appreciate any posts! thanks.  :)

Family Fun / Re: Parks in Manila

we went to Meralco last year and yes it was fun. meron din train that goes around the displays. mini house (hard to get your way through and catch up with your toddler).

if you are in the area, you might also want to try the Christmas display at greenhills (this we missed last year).

Party Planning: Birthdays and Baptism / Re: Baptismal Certificate Question
« on: November 28, 2011, 02:06:04 pm »
this is the first time i heard of this concern.

while it may be a way to encourage/motivate parents to wed in church, withholding/not releasing the baptismal certificate is equivalent to blackmail (pardon the term). the baptismal rites of the child has nothing to do with the parents' wedding. in fact, even if not married, encouraging parents to have their child baptized should be done without conditions.

if you have not been informed of this condition  "no church wedding, no baptismal certificate release", before the baptismal rites, then perhaps this issue/concern should be raised in the appropriate diocese, as recommended by one mom here.

am having the same problem.

our daughter just turned 3, some weeks back. i tried to give her nido 3+ (since she's been drinking nido 1-3 for more than a year, together with pediasure 1-3). ininom naman niya, halos maubos na nga but she had daily loose bowel.

what i did was to go back to nido 1-3, then continue ko rin pediasure 1-3.

i tried to give her lactum when she was 1 year+, ayaw niya, it seemed sweet to her.

hay, i want to go up sana nido3+ and pediasure 3-5, but am hesitating kasi nga nido 1-3 and pediasure 1-3 are both ok pa rin with her.

Labor and Child Birth / Re: Changing OB-GYNs mid-pregnancy
« on: November 22, 2011, 01:07:18 pm »
sis kulotski, if i were to change OB-GYNE mid-pregnancy, i will inform my current doctor about it. your reason is valid and if your current one is professional enough, she will understand and make your transfer of doctors a painless one.

of course you have the right to change doctors! you should be with one you will feel most comfortable with, within your budget, not so far from your place and other considerations you may deem important.

good luck!

Special Occassions / Re: judge for civil wedding
« on: November 01, 2011, 05:39:08 am »
gosh sis, sana pala nasabihan mo ako agad  - ang mahal naman ng siningil sa inyo. kita na lang kasi yan ng nag-ayos ng date, pwede naman kasi nila i move earlier. na feel lang siguro nila na you need an earlier date kaya tinaasan ng husto yung "rush" but it's good din na nakakuha na kayo ng date na ok sa inyo.

di naman required na white dress, but if you want to wear one, even a gown then go. we all want to look pretty for our wedding day. but if wala naman, any semi-formal dress will do para sa guard pa lang sa baba, they know na ikakasal kayo. tip pala: di sila nagpapasok ng sleeveless and naka shorts, slippers. if naka sleeveless your guest, need ng jacket/bolero/cover up - kayo na lang magdala 1 or 2 in case wala sila.

re gift to ninong/ninang, ito yung nakalimutan ko sa amin. he he. better siguro, may small token din to remind them of your wedding.

now lang kasi ako naka read ng thread - but am really happy for you sis!  :)
