Birth Control / Re: All about Injectables
« on: January 04, 2011, 06:23:49 pm »
Hi. I just want to clarify some things.

I had my FIRST DepoTrust injection this afternoon (Jan. 3, 2010)

1) My OB told me it would be IMMEDIATELY effective. Is this even true? Does this mean I can have unprotected sex na?
2) She asked me to come back March 3, 2010. Diba dapat April 3, 2010?
3) How much weight am I expected to gain?

Thanks so much for your replies

I'd like to answer your question. I hope you wont mind...

1. Your OB is right. The depo jab is effective as long as you've had your very first shot ON THE FIRST DAY (UP TO THE 4TH DAY) of your period. It should take 24-48hrs to take in effect. (Trust me sis, after I had my very first shot, tinesting agad namin ni mister hehe!)

2. If she asked you to go back 3/3/2011, then you might be injected with the two-month jab instead of the three-month jab. better call your OB when in doubt.

3. The amount of weight you are gonna gain depends on how your body will react to the synthetic hormones you got from the shot. The effect on other women may not be completely the same as what you will have.

You my notice side effects for the first few months like preggy symptoms, fatigue, dizziness, spotting and the like but it should go away after the first three months. If on the 4th month, may mga unwanted sife effects pa din, go back to your OB and have him/her change your birth control form.

Hope I've helped.

Happy new year everyone!  ;)

yes there is. though I dont think it is readily available here in the Philippines. You have to ask your OB about it.

^yes you can. but you gotta be extra careful. use a back up method during the first month of use (start of the pill pack). It takes 1 complete cycle for the pill to work based on that situation.

did you have your shot on your very first day of menstruation? or at least first-fourth day of your period? if so, then nothing to worry.

actually yung headache and pagiging dry down there ay side effect ng kahit anong hormonal contraceptive. nung ako ang nag-injectables, mas sexully active naman ako nun, pero nitong pills, dun ako dry down there. Kung grabe yung headache mo, might as well change to other form of contraceptive kasi bka matuloy yan sa migraine. I heard cases of women using injectables then acquiring migraine after a couple of jabs.

yes. you can stop and go back to using injectables anytime you want. Hindi naman kasi siya gaya ng pills that you have to take religiously everyday. ok lang yun kung malalayo naman ang agwat ng bawat paturok mo. its just a matter of giving your body a little rest from the hormones and chemicals from the jab, and get yourself a calcium supplement.

^hi sis,

most women experience delay on their period right after getting off the depo shot. It doesn't matter how long you've been having it or how many shots you've had. It is possible na nadedelay lang siya dahil yung contents nung depo shot does not wear off easily sa katawan nating mga babae. It may take weeks, months or gaya nung iba--years ang binilang before mgkaroon ng regular period. Nagkaspotting ka ba in between the end of June and second week of July? Kung oo, then that's the period you've been waiting for. Pero kung hindi ka din nag-spot, you can wait for a good week or two, then have yourself tested using a PT (para makasiguro lang).

You mentioned when you made love, you used barrier naman di ba? I dont think you should be worried provided that you used a backup method.

Dont stress yourself too much sa paghihinty ng period mo. That can also delay it..

I hope I've helped you.. God bless! :)

^depende po yun sa brand. The cheapest I know is Depo Trust. It costs P107.00 sa mercury. Other brands like depo-provera may cost you P500-P1000. But as far as I know Depo provera is already phased out.

well madaming brand sa market, but you cant just change brands wihtout knowing the content/dosage. baka kasi kaya yasmin ang binigay sa iyo ng OB ay dahil sa may kelangan i-cure sa iyo (like hormonal imbalance).

If you want to change pill brands, just finish the current pack then switch to the new brand the same time you should start a new pack.

But then again, I am not a doctor. I still suggest that you see your OB or a health care officer sa health center to give you complete information regarding pill brands. baka kasi ma-mess up ang hormones mo

Hi CJ13!

welcome to SP! try ko sagutin mga tanong mo ha?

1.) my OB prescribe to use yasmin? is it ok?
 - I have not use Yasmin but as per feedbacks, okay siya sa skin at hindi "daw" masyado nakakataba.

2.) what is the best time to intake pills?
 - You may associate taking the pill with a daily routine. for ex: breakfast/lunch/dinner time, or before brushing your teeth, or before going to bed. sa ganun, hindi mo siya makakalimutan.

3.) wala bang problem kahit anong tme basta same time everyday po sya intake? - YES! importante na almost at the same time everyday mo siya ite-take. okay lang ma-late ng mga 30 minutes to 2 hours, hindi maapektuhan ang effectivity nito.

4.) is it reliable ba talaga?
 - yes it is. as long as you take the pills as instructed.

5.) hindi ba mag mimintis un? anytime ba safe mag sex?
 - it is 99.9% effective if the first pill is taken during your first day of period. If within 4 days of your period ka nagstart ng pack, you have to be careful in having sex for the first 7-10 days of use. For this case, use backup method. the following packs/months should be safe, basta tama ang inom ng pills.

6.) hindi ma mababawasan ang effect nun if ever uminom ako ng mga slimmming tea?
 - depende. kung ang effect sa iyo ng slimming tea ay LBM or pagsusuka, then stop either the tea or the pill (depending on your priority)

If you think masyadong masakit sa bulsa yung current brand mo, you can request your OB to change it. Yung similar dosage, pero mas mura.

I hope I've helped you.  :)

did you know that when you walk at night, there's a 30% chance your body will be heavier because some spirits ride at your back?

- Time Magazine, Nov. 2008 issue

scary...goosebumps all over!!!!

I remember reading this on Dan Brown's Lost Symbol. may nag-aaral daw talaga nito sa US.

Did you know that Bernard Madoff scammed US with the amount that can take you back and forth to the moon 12 times?

^ sis, finish mo muna yung current pill pack mo ngayon. pag naubos mo na or on the same exact date na dapat magsisimula ka ng bagong pack, saka ka magpalit ng brand.
