As long as appropriate na kay baby yung toys, better pabuksan na para magamit. I have a cousin na yung mga toys niya naka-box talaga (mga dolls na di naman expensive pero maganda). Nung bata kami I'd ask her kung pwede laruin yun tapos ang sabi niya magagalit daw si mama niya, nakatago lang daw yun.

I also thought of buying toys tapos naka-box lang, kaya lang toys are meant to be played with, hindi naka-display. So I let them play with everything.

ano po ba ang maganda toy for my son? he's turning 1 y/o this december.. tia!

From 0 to 2 years old, kids would usually play using their senses- sight, hearing, tasting, smelling, and touch.  Your kid would be greatly benefitted with toys that create sounds when banged, hit, shaken or rattled, colorful toys, textured toys that can be sucked, licked and bitten.  But the best toys will still be toys that are played with Mom, Dad, or Grandparents, or siblings.
