« on: April 04, 2010, 02:42:11 am »

hiyee!!

im not sure if this is the right place for me to raise this question..
i would just like to ask if you have idea kung may mga companies bang tumatanggap ng pregnant women?feeling ko kase pag nag apply ka and then sinabi mong buntis ka e they might have a thought na aalis din or mag le-leave din after ilang months..or isipin na gagamitin lang yung benefits like maxicare mga ganon..gusto ko sana bumalik sa BPO industry kaso lang baka walang tumanggap hehe.help naman po jan..thanks!

Hi Hayne22

It really depends on the company.  I applied before sa isang BPO company and I was 2 months pregnant.  Sinuwerte naman ako kasi natanggap ako.. The only thing was that hindi ko alam that time na buntis pala ako.

You are also correct on some part, na yung ibang company, upon knowing the buntis ang applicant, nagkakadoubts sila na tanggapin.  I have interviewed an applicant before who was 6 months pregnant, and unfortunately hindi ko sya tinanggap.  BUT not because I thought na she'll make use of the company's benefits.  Pero, sabi ko nga, I have been in that position and super napasakit ko ang ulo ng team leader ko.  Sakit dito, sakit doon.  Absent dito, absent doon ang nangyari.  Pinagbibigyan lang ako kasi nga "buntis".   :)

Pero if I were, you, if you still can, try walking around Ortigas or yung center sa may C5.  It's a good exercise na din for you.   Who knows, makahanap ka pa ng morning shift na account.

Good Luck

Will companies accept a pregnant applicant? I really want to work. help!
« Reply #2 on: January 23, 2011, 11:21:15 pm »

Hello mommies!

Im currently a housewife right now, my hubby asked me to stop working since we discovered that i am pregnant (only 3 months, and my first pregnancy, therefore, expecting a child for the first time).

But recently, im feeling an urge to go back to work since naiinip ako sa bahay at alam ko, kaya pa naman ng katawan ko mag-work kahit buntis ako.

Im planning to look for a job as a real estate agent or a property consultant / specialist.  Yung mga nag-aabot ng brochures sa mga malls and nag-aadvertise about condo's and houses sa makati, since i thought unlike call center, it does not require me na mag-puyat and has normal work shift.

My question is: ang companies po ba ay tumatanggap ng mga pregnant applicants? Particularly sa real estate companies?  Should I tell them im preggy?
Ayoko naman kasi mag-apply na mare-reject lang ako pag nalaman na preggy ako, i really know i can do the job.
Please give me some advice, tips and insights.  Thanks.

There are no written policies in companies to not accept applicants na buntis, because for one, being pregnant is not being sick.  But of course, BPO industry might have second thought about accepting pregnant applicants, because of the nature of the work, na puyatan lagi.  Also, yung work sa mga factories in which physical yung job, siguro, they would have second thoughts, too.  But when these do not accept pregnant applicants, it must be for the good of the applicant, too.

Kung nasa third trimester na ang pregnancy, job-hunting could be a tedious task na at that stage.  So while you're pregnant, I suggest you find home-based jobs that could make you earn while you're pregnant. If not, just enjoy the time with the baby on your tummy, then delay job hunting later -- it would be best for you.

Good luck!

I was working in a call center when I got pregnant, and since nag-spotting ako nun, the doc advised me to rest for two weeks.  Newly hired pa lang ako nun and nasa training pa so the call center suggested na mag-resign muna ako, but they are open in accepting me once pwede na ulit ako mag-work.  Pero hindi na ako bumalik dun, knowing na hindi ko kakayanin yung stress kaya nag-housewife muna ako for almost a year.  Then nung 8 mos na si baby, nag-work na ulit ako pero sa ibang indutry naman.

May mga companies naman na tumatanggap ng pregnant women, especially kung hindi naman hazardous yung type ng work, mostly pag office-based ang work. Pero pag medyo hazardous yung work (like example, chemist or engineer in factories or sales wherein you have to travel or any stressful jobs), companies will surely have second thoughts in hiring pregnant women.  It's not about being unfair, but it's for the health and safety of the person involved.

May mga companies din who can wait naman until you give birth, pag talagang nagustuhan ka nila to be their employee.  Basta, ALWAYS let your future employer know that you're pregnant.   Anyway, pag magpa-medical ka, malalaman din naman nila yun. Hehe.  What a pregnant woman should think first is the safety of her child and herself.  :)

ideally, there should be no bias in hiring people.  pero syempre a company is looking for people to help generate income so a pregnant woman is more of a liability especially in the beginning.  unless na homebased nga ang work puwede pa :)

My former boss is working in Convergys UP Techno hub and they do hire pregnant women.

I will just tell you my experience before. I was 8.5 months pregnant when I was going to job exams and interviews. Ayaw ko na kasi sa current company ko, gusto ko sana new company after maternity leave.
Naisip ko tutal, most companies will wait for you to give a month's notice so pareho lang naman yun kung mag-maternity ako.

Anyway mahirap talaga, I am in software development but most of the companies I applied to did not even process my application. How did I know? Yung iba kasing companies may kilala akong nag refer sa akin, pero nung nag follow up sila sa HR about my status yun nga, sinabi ng HR di raw sila nagpro-process ng buntis.

So because of this nagtanong ako sa mga HR practitioners sa ibang forum kung bakit ganun?

In my case I couldn't hide my tummy anymore.

You can't complain that they didn't hire you because you are pregnant. For all you know marami silang pwedeng gawing excuse kung bakit di ka nila kinuha.
