recommended books on parenting and baby care
« on: July 05, 2008, 01:18:04 pm »

hi mommies! mahilig ba kayo magbasa ng books, epecially yung mga books na related sa pregnancy, post-pregnancy and childcare books?

i love reading and collecting books na connected sa pagalaga sa babies. when i got pregnant, bumili ako sa ebay ng "what to expect when expecting". naging guide ko sya kung pano i-handle yung pregnancy ko and nandun din yung monthly development ng baby sa womb ng mommy. after i gave birth, "Baby Minders" naman binili ko. how to take care of your newborn, proper feeding, grooming. ok sya kasi it was made for typical filipino mothers. then binigyan din ako "Baby Whisperer" nung friend ko. it teachs mothers on how to                   make a routine for newborn babies. yung pano mo mapapasunod ang baby sa gusto mong routine mo like yung oras ng pag gising niya hanggang sa pagtulog sa gabi na hindi ka mahihirapan. ngayon "what to expect the toddler years" naman binabasa ko kasi 1 yr na si andrew.

i hope other moms here could share yung mga books na nabasa nila na related sa child-care an development. :)

ako, aside from forums like this, magazines! SP mag preferably.kc lahat ng latest research about health, parenting styles from other moms, lahat ng bago about this world we live in,sa current issues ng magazines.kc yung mga books na yan, matagal na sinulat, hindi lahat ng nasa book na sinulat let's say five years ago, yung iba di na applicable sa panahon ngayon.everyday the world is changing.yung ibang books, hindi applicable sa pinas.kung may book man ako nabili, yung "baby minder",pero isang series lang nabili ko about baby games ata yon.as much as i want to buy other books, namamahalan ako, ilang modern magazines with advance research na applicable ngayon ang mabibili mo with the money spent for 1 book.hehe.just my POV.prefer ko magazines. ;)

ako i bought yung SP's Smart Mom's Guide to Pregnancy and Baby's First Year. KKlaunch lang nung May 2008.  Very helpful for a first time mom like me. Maganda din kc Filipino-authored sya so talagang makaka-relate ka.  Di rin masyadong malalim yung mga wordings, parang nagbabasa ka lang ng magazine.

Best baby's 1st yr Parenting books
« Reply #4 on: August 04, 2008, 01:42:52 am »

Who among the two parenting  books, is best and worth to buy for first time Filipina Mom with a 3 months baby girl.

The Smart Mom's guide to: Pregnancy and baby's first year [295 pesos]

Or

What to Expect the First Year [600 + pesos]

WHile SM guide is creatively written for Pinay mom im not sure if i have everything i need to know in this cute book.

As for the What to Expect, it may be pretty expensive but im not sure if it worth for my peso bills.

Basically, i go for its informative quality. so which of the two, should i add in my wish list?

Or the last option... should i buy the two books? ... would it be worth it?

I just don't want to be experience another buyer's remorse.

Mommies, kindly share your honest opinions please.

Note: The Filipina Mom is permanently staying in the Philippines. Mom is 23 yrs old.

Hi smarties!!

I highly recommend the book I am reading lately... the book is -- POSITIVE DISCIPLINE - The First Three Years. Though nasa 1/3 pa lang ako ng book i can say that i am learning a lot. I bought the book in National B/S in Katipunan and i got it on a discounted price.

this one is for both the parents and children. this is a very good light reading, not for bedtime though. pang-bonding ito.

Hale, Hale Hoy! by Adarna books is one treasure. nakakaaliw kasi mababasa niyo dito yung mga games natin nung mga bata pa tayo. nagugulat din nga ako mnsan kasi may putol-putol pala yung alam kong kanta.

i am not a fan of video games and game consoles, mas gusto ko yung may live interaction sa mga bata dahil sa matutunan niyang lessons about being a social being kaya ineencourage ko ang anak namin na makipaglaro sa iba. Try niyo din mga sis!

this book costs around P250

I definitely love The Giving Tree, The Missing Piece and The Missing Piece Meets the Big O. May malalim na lessons about love  :)

try searching for his website,  and you'll get excerpt.

There's a book called "The Happiest Toddler on the Block" which teaches moms how to communicate with toddlers effectively!

Here's an article a mom blogger wrote about it to give you an idea of what it's about: http://goo.gl/MyQB9
