I found this book and gave my review on SP. It's a great tool for beginners who need to learn basic Filipino words for objects before they can move on to sentences and, eventually, Filipino story books.

I had my son tutored on Filipino nung bakasyon. Ngayon he can understand about 65% of what is written on his textbook. When I teach him at home, I translate the line 1st in English then make him read it in Filipino. I even write above the tagalog word the english meaning. We also go through his lessons in advance para pag sinimulan na ng teacher yung next lesson, may idea na siya what's it about. I keep my expectations low. I will never be assured naman kung naintindihan or matatandaan niya lahat ng tinuro ko but at least he has a happy disposition when we're studying.

My son is having a hard time with his subjects. He couldn't understand his textbooks. Ang dami pa naman nilang Filipino! Theres AP, Filipino, Gabay and Mapeh is also taught in Filipino. I told his yaya to speak wih him in tagalog kaya medjo nakakaintindi na siya. Nagfocus kami sa subjects na yan during his periodicals more on understanding context and meaning. My gulay the Mapeh ang mga instructions lalo na sa PE hindi ko maintindihan. I was like ano daw?! Ngayon Filipino-English dictionary ang bestfriend namin. It really helps alot!

Same with my daughter, she can read it but she doesn't understand it at all.  :(  she can understand and talk common tagalog words pero yung iba hindi na.  kinakabahan na nga ako sa result ng exam niya eh. nakita ko na lang yung sa book niya na ang score ay 1-3 out of 5 sa mga activities. haay. kapag ito na yung pag-aaralan namin nawawalan na siya ng gana. inaayawan na niya! will expose her to tagalog Adarna books...hope magustuhan niya.

mga sis, paano niyo ginagawang exciting ang pagtuturo sa kids niyo with this subject? hope you can share. thanks in advance.  :D

I recently bought english-tagalog story book for my son. Marami sa book stores, there's Adarna and other publishers. Pero ang hirap makahanap para sa beginner. Most, if not all, are for kids who can already read and speak tagalog. I need a story with less words per page. I found Mario's Special Day and Alpabetong Filipino

This summer, I plan to enroll him at a Filipino language school for kids. I posted about it here:

I make it sound interesting for my daughter like thinking of words that can easily be remembered.  Example:  Wall-Dingding.  Sabi ko it sounds like a bell, Dingding and everytime you'll ask her sasabihin niya "it sounds like a bell, dingding" :-)

Haha! I did teach that too. Kisame sound like Kiss-me, Semento (cement) for the floor (if made of cement).
