Goodness, I remember my son turned 1 yo, he would bite while he push my boob away. Mapapasigaw ako sa sakit. When we're in the car, mapapa preno bigla husband ko kasi nagulat sa biglang sigaw ko.
Goodness, nag stretch ang nipl ko nag mukhang chewing gum. Gusto ko batukan baby ko for doing that. I'd pry my pinky finger in his mouth to detach him tapos with a firm voice I'd say "no."
Hindi naagtagal yon so I suppose naintindihan niya na he's not suppose to do that.

@cocoberry, for your nipple to heal, apply your own breastmilk on it. Basain mo lang and air dry. It worked for me.

My baby is almost 9 months, maaga lumabas tooth niya, around 6 mos....so far she has 7 now (yikes!), and bites on occasion especially towards the end of a feeding, meaning pag unconsious na siya or almost asleep. So I always have my pinky ready to unlatch her.  Painful, yes but tolerable naman. I keep my lansinoh cream handy too, in case of cuts or anything.

^ sis, wag mo tiisin. you need to train your baby not to bite. this is one of my major concerns during the first few months i was breastfeeding.

there are only 2 reasons i know of why babies bite while breastfeeding. teething and playing.

before naman sila magbite, you will know if they are going to bite. nag-iiba kasi ang facial expression when they are about to bite. well, that is, if you are watching your baby when nursing. you can stop them before they get to bite you.

kung hindi naman mapigilan, kasi hindi ko rin naman pinapanood ang baby ko magbreastfeed the whole time, try not to scream. kasi if ma-trauma your baby from your screaming, it could cause a nursing strike. they won't nurse from you for a time.

if baby bites or is about to bite, give him a teether. cold ones are better or a wet towel to bite on. after this, once baby asks to nurse again, he doesn't bite anymore.

^not that tinitiis ko na nangangagat siya per se but it's more of accepting the fact that my son really has the tendency to bite lalo na pag naiinip sa letdown. sinasaway ko naman. he knows when I'm upset already, umiiyak siya pag napapagalitan ko. either i unlatch him then sasawayin ko, or break muna then nurse ulit. i'll try the teether next time. thanks :-*

What can I do if my baby bites me while I’m breastfeeding?
A baby will usually start teething at six months. If you’re still breastfeeding, here are some tips on how to handle a baby who bites.

si baby nathan, start syang magngipin around 7 months, kapag nanggigigil sya ayun!kakagatin niya yung nipples ko sabay layo ng ulo niya as in hinihila pa... one time napaiyak talaga ko sa sakit. I cant do anything kundi sumunod sa kanya kesa mahila pa ng todo yung nipples ko. and then minsan tinutulak ko sya yung mukha niya para madiin sa breast ko at a moment bibitiw na sya. his now 11 months and still naBF parin pero hindi na sya nangangagat... ewan ko how he learn this pero kapag nangangati siguro gums niya ayun manggigil sya pero not to the point na he will bite me but you will feel yung kamay na niya yung nangungurot or minsan he will hold you ng madiin pero still he wont let my nipples out of his mouth :)

It's normal for babies to bite while they are breastfeeding. Here are things you can do:

1. Avoid screaming, if possible.
2. After the baby bites, slowly remove your breast and firmly tell him/her that it's not okay to bite. Say this in a calm manner.
3. Check to see that your baby is not teething. If he or she is, it may be the reason for biting. If this is the case, alleviate the pain by giving a teether for example before breastfeeding.
4. Minimize distractions such as TV or other noise while nursing
5. Understand when your baby is really hungry. If you nurse when he or she isn't really hungry, he or she may play around while nursing resulting to biting.
