@AnneM:

@mommyJQ - ako minsan tinitiis ko yung tantrums when I take away the iPad from my son. Kahit na galit na galit siya sakin, I try my best na di nalang pansinin yung galit niya. But as for you, kung mas takot siya sa daddy niya, then good :) At least she will listen. :)

@Anne M:

How to Use the Parental Controls on Internet Explorer?
« Reply #19 on: November 22, 2011, 05:00:50 am »

Let's face it, the Internet can be a great place for learning and interacting with friends, but it is also a wild place with lots of content that can be unsuitable for kids. Fortunately, Internet Explorer has parental controls that you can adjust according to what you do and do not want your children to be exposed to online. These parental controls can be adjusted according to a child's age and your own values.

Control What Your Children See Online

1.Go to Internet Explorer on your computer. Click on 'Tools' from the toolbar in the upper right-hand corner of the Web browser.

2.Select the 'Content' tab.

3.Find the 'Content Advisor' heading and click on the button labeled 'Enable.'

4.Choose a category from the list. This list will present you with a variety of content categories that you may not want your children to see, such as sites depicting drug or alcohol use, violent images, nudity or bad language.

5.Click on the category you want to control. Then use your mouse to move the slider below the list to set the degree of restriction you want on that type of site. the degree of restriction can range from no restriction at all to the complete blocking of those sorts of sites.

6.Click 'OK.'

7.Set a password. You will be prompted to do so at this point. Setting a password will ensure that no one but you is able to adjust the parental control settings.

My panganay, I give her 30 mins a day if she has finished all her assignments. Kasama na yung time ng pag download, everything she's working on. It's also a big factor na nasa common area yung PC so I can see if she really is doing her assignments (research) or is hiding an FB tab.

Grabe na talaga ang mga bata ngayon. We bought a tablet for our 3 year old son kasi wala kaming yaya ngayon. And we need something na pwede niyang gawin while we were asleep. =(

We have to start na i limit siya sa paglalarao kasi mags start na siya sa school this year.

My 11yo son used to be so addicted to Ipad and when his eyes...  "kumukurap ng kumukurap" then we had an issue.  Ipad's brightness causes eye strain.  I am also addicted to games kaya nasasabayan ko mga anak ko (I am using Ipad.) pero kapag nararamdaman ng bata (o ako mismo) na medyo pagod na ang mata nila (ko), they (we) should give it a rest else.....

My son, tutal summer naman, simula paggising hanggang pagtulog ayun nakatutok sa laptop niya (Minecraft game).

Just make sure, they are playing the right games like my daughter.  Sa Ipad siyang natuto ng Phonetics and she can even tell 8 stories at one sitting.  Old fairytale stories with lessons are good kaya lang may bayad pag download.

Parental Guidance is a must.

Lagi ko sinasabi sa anak ko (my 11yo son), don't watch movies/videos that is not right for your age.  When the right time comes, I will be the one to show you.  Responsibility and Trust should follow.

Ngayong bakasyon walang magawa mga kids sa bahay, I let them use computer pero after our study time. It helps if they are enrolled in a summer class para busy sila.

I agree that kids today are learning to use the gadgets easily.  Kahit 2 yrs. old ko natuto na rin ng computer and touch screen cellphones.  But I always have to check on them na dapat limited lang ang time nila in computers and TVs.

They can start watching TV by 10am na so the time they wake up till 10am, they are able to play with their toys or go out and have some outdoor play.  Before it was 9AM but I observed ang haba na ng time watching TV so I moved it to 10AM para hindi naman stationary palagi.  Then in the afternoon they should take naps talaga.

If they act up and have tantrums, I simply ignore them para hindi ako ma-stress or ma irritate at the same time.  After some time I talk to my sons in a gentle manner and let them understand why they have limitations.  In the long run, the kids do understand naman.  As a parent, you have to discipline the kids talaga.  Yes, minsan naaawa kasi umiiyak but when you think about it, what you do is to mold them into great kids and eventually adults diba?

Hope this helps.

I found a VPN on my 15-year-old brother's notebook. I searched his browsing history and found it clean, which actually made me more suspicious.

I just want to know if any of you are facing this issue with any of your kids that are big enough to be using a laptop.
