update lang din poh may baby is now 1 yr and 9 months old she started her speech therapy two weeks ago and so far so good naman, finally more words she now calls me mah, dee for daddy and hiya for lola, medyo madami na din siyang words around 30 siguro but my problem is hindi buo mga words niya like cah (cat and car), gah (goodnight), bra (zebra) bah (bye), doh (dog) and the likes basta either yung first or last letter of the word ang kulang though according to her therapist acceptable pa din yun with her age ang tawag ata dun is approximation and better na daw yun kesa hindi nagiimitate ng words si baby, even sa nursery rhymes si baby nagsasabi ng last word like for ex:
me: twinkle, twinkle little...
baby: stah (star)
me: how i wonder what you...
baby: ah (are)
me: up above the world so...
baby: hah (high)
me: like a diamond in the...
baby: kah (sky)
pati yung sa 10 little indian siya nagsasabi ng numbers 3,5,6,9 and 10 and alphabet song fill in the blanks din kami im hoping na soon she'll eventually sing the whole song on her own, im even surprise kasi pati yung last word sa sentences or phrases sa mga books niya alam niya din like the words chase, straight, tall, feet, time, gift, pig, goldilocks and the likes but yun nga lang hindi buo and pronunciation niya

nagimprove na din imaginative play niya she nows pretend to feed her doll (and even me) using a toy cup or toy bottle, she'll put her toy phone in her ear if i say hello baby, she pretends to sing using her toy microphone and sometimes dancing

she's also good with following commands for "give" and "get" ang packing away her toys and books, ok din imitation skills niya she knows different actions for nursery rhymes consistent na din pointing niya thought hirap pa din sa far objects but currently na siya tinuturuan sa school, she knows the alphabet and the only letters the she pronounce incorrectly are l,o,q,y,w, she knows numbers 1-10, can identify 11 different shapes and 12 different colors, and very big improvement on her fine motor sabi ng OT niya age appropriate na skills niya, im surprised cause i just discovered my baby is very good with puzzles and peg boards, she can put back the pieces without help and no trail and error after 2-3 times of showing her how do fixed it, even yung alphabet peg boards nakalagay pag 3 yrs old yun but nabubuo ni baby she even recite each lettter as she put back the pieces

this month na next evaluation ni baby i hope makita din ng dr yung huge improvement niya sabi ng therapist ni baby baka daw malessen na OT or palitan ng ng SPED kasi for now need to focus on her speech and especially her social skills wala kasi bata dito sa amin, till next time poh and lets keep on supporting our kids...

^wow sis, galing naman ng Baby mo. Sino Dev Ped mo sis? ako kasi hindi pa kami pinag SP eh kai no need pa daw as of the moment :) Toddler class siya, mamaya pang 9th class palang ni Baby pero maganda at madami na siyang words na alam, kaso siguro dala na din ng pagigging two years old niya puro NO siya talaga. hahaha, kulit lang. Nakakatuwa kapag may support group na ganito, some naive people wouldn't understand kasi. Boo them :D July naman re-evaluation namin kay Dra. Tippy.

@ sis swtgrl_bee

hi sis we went first to dra falcotelo but for my baby's 2nd assestment we'll see dr lazaro para second opinion na din, i back read your posts and good thing madami na din words baby mo gusto ko din sana ienroll sa toddler class si baby for her to socialize but her teachers wouldn't allow her i think because she's too young and the toddler class here accepts 2 year olds but if i'll get a recommendation from the dev ped papayag sila kasi siyempre diba iba naman salita ng adults sa salita ng mga bata saka kahit man lang once a week muna ok lang. right now naka dyad si baby meaning may katabi siyang bata na ok ang speech kaya lang big kids naman katabi niya i thing she's 7 gusto ko sana ka age lang niya, madami naman siyang words but yun nga lang hindi buo but with meaning naman yun lahat and consistent and she'll repeat it back if asked, lapit na din pala assesment ng baby mo balitaan mo din kami dito sis ha, Godbless poh...

question i have 17 month old baby boy pang 2nd kona sya..im quite medyo worry sa speech niya.bfore kasi nung mga 13 month old mamga some words na sya nasasabi like..when i say "clark once to ...sagot sya play...yun bang ganun and yun word na pen and key lam niya pag pinapakita ko..recently napansin ko hndi na niya nasasabi ewan ko ha this past week parang napansin ko..but yung ibang words na mommy, daddy, dede, baba(if he wants to go down nasasabi pa din namin niya , bah (ball)... my question di ba regression yun nangyari sa kanya? regression pa din ba matatawag kahit hndi naman lahat ng words yun nawala sa kanya??and if may regression na nangyayari automatic ba autism na yun? or pwede problema lang sa speech?............pero hndi naman matatawag na seech delay di ba kasi nga nagregress eh?

in other aspects naman like sa interaction wala problem pag tinawag mo tingin namain sya maganda nga eye contact niya kahit pano, nauutusan ng simple like get and give, nakakapagimitate sya,, ,,yung older sister niya dati pinatheraphy ko din for safety side lang kasi feeling ko delay and sabi ni dr dimalanta okey naman but if i want gusto ko patheraphy patheraphy ko kasi wala naman mawawala .then yun nga after 6 months nagstop na kami and ngayon sobrang daldal na....dito ngayon sa 2nd baby ko medyo alert na naman ako ..

@ sis darna88

ang sabi sa akin before ni dra falcotelo any form of regression daw is a major red flag but based on how you describe your son i think hindi naman siya autistic kasi he's communicating naman and may interaction pa din unless may other red flags pa din na present like no name response and no pointing

he's too young pa din naman buti nga baby mo buo ang mommy and daddy tawag sa inyo baby ko isang syllable lang mah and dee then hiya sa lola, but if you want sis pacheck mo na din son mo sa devped for peace of mind and if ever (but wag naman sana) irecommend ang therapy then the earlier the better sis kasi nasa stage pa sila ng development madali mahabol ang delay since baby pa nagstart, baby ko kasi ngstart exactly 18 months siya with OT then at 19 months start na ng speech therapy, i've talked to her therapist kanina and sabi since mostly age appropriate na skills niya tingin daw niya and iaadvise ng dr is toddler class na then lessen OT or baka palitan ng SPED...

Naisip ko na ipasok sa Kindermusik kaso yung next sem nila would be on July 31 pa, so mawala siyang activities for 2 months.

sis darna88, kung ako tatanungin mo sis. I don't think autism case ng anak mo. According sa kwento mo. Pero best padin sis to consult a Dev Ped para atleast mapanatag ka din sis :)

nagpasked na din ako exactly when he turns 2 para sure, like ginawa ko sa ate niya..iba pa din aksi peace of mind di ba..sa states di ba mandatory dun when a child turns 2 year old pinapa check sa developmental pedia? sana dito din sa pinas tapos free yun assessment covered ng philhealth din hehe..but knowing dito satin mukhang matagal pa mangyari yun

@ sis swtgrl_bee

naku sis sobrang layo ko, im from batangas poh :), how about gymboree sis baka pwede?, currently naka summer program din baby ko and until may 22 lang yun, initial advised ni dra falcotelo is 3 months of OT then assestment ulit to see if may progress, hindi ko pa din alam what will be my next move because i need to wait first for the result of her 2nd assesment  i asked again kanina yung therapist ng baby ko pwede ko naman daw pala ienroll din si baby sa toddler class kasi yung center dito may katabi na mainstreaming school that offers toddler class, at the same time she told me group therapy na pala siya next month though may one on one pa din kaya ngayon im more confuse if enroll ko pa din siya sa toddler class forgot to ask though how old are the kids na kasama ng anak ko sa group therapy

@ sis darna88 PM sent poh :)

@ sis riddermark

sis as far as i know si dra hindi talaga nagrerecommend na ipasok sa school ang bata hangga't walang big improvement, ganyan din kasi nangyari dun sa isang mommy na nakakausap ko lagi sa school ni baby, kay dra din sila nagpunta for first assesment, the kid is 5 years old but still not talking hindi naman siya nadiagnose nung first assestment then gusto din sana na parents ienroll sa school for exposure and socialization sana but ayaw niya talaga, i think ganon siguro approach niya but kay dr lazaro based sa mga nakakausap ko kasama palagi sa recommendation niya is toddler class especially for children 3 below for socialization but siguro depende din sa case ng kid, baby ko naman is doing very well sa school halos at par na skills niya pinaka big problem ko is her socialization, before naman kasi she used to play with other kids but eversince nun sinaktan siya ng pamangkin ko everytime may lalapit sa kanya na bata umiiyak na siya or lumalayo maybe it got stuck to her na pag may lumapit na bata sasaktan siya, kaya now dinadala ko siya palagi sa playhouse sa mall sa una umiiyak but after 2 days hindi na but she still wouldn't go to other children, her OT told me not to force her, just expose her lang and let her observe sooner or later siya na din daw kusa lalapit

my baby's OT knows dr lazaro and knowing him she thinks na he will recommend toddler class, lessen OT and continue with speech, but since umiiyak pa nga baby ko pag may ibang bata she'll be put on group therapy once a week parang toddler class din, the group consists of children ages 2-4 mostly verbal kids hayaan muna si baby to get used to that kind of setting kasi hindi siya pwedeng biglain then if nag ok na they will increase the number of group therapy or payagan siya magsalinpusa sa toddler class, and if she pass the evaluation then that's the time she'll be transferred na, hopefully by second sem (that's our goal), matransfer na siya sa regular toddler class

sis Rosetan:

yep, tama si sis swtgrlbee, if it really bothers you, puede mo sya ipacheck sa Dev Ped. Iba pa din yung may expert's point of view.

Pero in my opinion, the mere fact na kaya naman i-express ni baby mo yung gusto niya sabihin in comprehensible words, means her speech is ok naman.
My daughter din kasi speaks mostly English (though she speaks in Tagalog din), and pag English sya nagsasalita, hindi din derecho, minsan nga parang german pag mabilis magsalita, though naiintindihan naman sya ng most people in our family. Pero pag Tagalog gamit niya, maliwanag at derecho naman. I think your issue is more on her not being able to construct complete sentences, rather than her not being able to communicate, and based sa nabasa ko dito: http://www.babycenter.com/0_warning-signs-of-a-toddlers-language-delay_12293.busy

a 3 year old should be able to speak in short phrases na, which your daughter already does. :)

When did your kid turn three ba? Mine just turned three last weekend, and I'm hoping na mas magimprove pa yung
language skills niya in the next months. You might also want to give her a couple of months' allowance to observe closely,  before you go to a Dev Ped, para din ma-gauge mo talaga. And if ever man magdecide ka magpunta sa Dev Ped, mas ma-eexplain mo din sa kanya yung situation ng daughter mo. :)

Minsan kasi, when we compare with other kids, naiisip agad natin, 'naku bakit yung anak ko ganito ganyan, bakit sya ganito ganyan', not knowing na posibleng magkaiba naman yung circumstances nung dalawang bata. Posibleng yung bata sa Little Miss Philippines is 3 years old, pero she's months ahead of your kid, like mga 3.5 years old na ganyan, e sa mga bata, a few months ahead is still a big difference.  :)

update poh...

my baby was assessed yesterday by dr joel lazaro he's really good sobrang sulit ng bayad ko sa kanya and even his clinic talagang child friendly, my daughter was diagnosed with expressive language delay and hearing him saying "don't worry mommy normal na normal si baby hindi poh siya special child" grabe para akong nabunutan ng malaking tinik sa puso. i've been carrying it since my baby was 14 months old that is when I started to noticed some SIGNS, here's the result of my baby's assessment:
my baby's age: 21 months old
gross motor: 20 months
fine motor: 18 months
language:
                expressive: 10 months
receptive: 24 months (my baby's advanced by 3months)
social adaptive: 18 months
problem solving/cognitive: 3 years old (advanced na baby ko ng 1 year and 3 months for this ;D)
she was asked to do a series of tests she was given wooden puzzles starting with the easy ones then mag move on to more complex if kaya niya (my daughter finished a total of 4 sets on her own), she was also asked to draw a circle and a straight line using a regular pencil and point/identify pictures using flashcards and build blocks lahat ito nagawa ng daugher ko, magaling din siya magexplain and he knows how to get my daughter's attention, he also advised to have my baby's hearing checked, it might be a cause daw as to why hindi clear salita niya, my baby can talk naman but palaging putol ang words its either missing ang last or 1st syllable/letter and some words shortcut lang like water is ter, kah for cat, car, kite, goodnight is gah and the likes, baka daw hindi 100% and hearing niya so she was asked to do BAER to make sure, he also advised us to continue with OT and speech and add toddler class for her to socialize, right now naka summer break si baby her therapies and toddler class will resume on june 14 excited much si mommy kasi may uniform na siya and she's barely 2 :D
sobrang thankful ako sa mga therapist ni baby she was very different then and yung mga signs na notice ko before eh nawala na like inconsistent name response, hand flapping, fleeting eye contact and her fine motor and social skills were very poor then, when she started her therapies she was at a 9 month old level but after 3 months at par na siya well except for the expressive language
so far these are what I learned from this experience:
1. old school toys are still the best. wooden toys like building blocks, puzzles, peg boards and string beads are highly recommended for toddlers it develops there fine motor and problem solving skills at the same time and also how to be patient on completing a task. plan ko pa naman bilhan si baby ng toy laptop on her 2nd bday but after this mas prefer ko na wooden toys and mas like niya din yun, even yung junior tad system hindi niya nagagamit mahal pa naman she prefers to hear my voice than a talking toy
2. spend time with your child as much possible. read to your child, play with them and sing nursery rhymes together. dapat din bawal ang TV but if it is unavoidable just make sure kasama niyo din si baby and kausapin niyo para maging interactive
3. exposure is a must. a simple trip to a regular playhouse at the mall does wonders especially for children suffering from stranger anxiety like in my daughter's case. the first 3 visits was a nightmare but finally on the 4th visit she started to roam around on her own and play with others. it helps the child develop their social and motor skills.wag ikulong ang bata sa bahay if walang time ipasyal sa mall kahit sa labas lang ng house para may makitang ibang tao at bata ok na yun.
4. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. if you noticed something different with your child a visit to a dev pedia is highly recommended the earlier the better. Along the way you'll a hear a lot of people saying na bakit si ganito ganyan late din naman nagsalita or normal lang yan baby pa naman yan which is true din naman but what if it's not the case with our kid sayang yung time na sana nabigyan sila ng early intervention.

^sis I like your report, congrats sis and happy to hear na okay na okay sis baby mo. I like this part, super like "4. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. if you noticed something different with your child a visit to a dev pedia is highly recommended the earlier the better. Sis saan mo ipapasok ang baby mo? :)

@ swtgrl_bee

thanks sis, ngayon lang talaga ako nakahinga ng maluwag after the assessment we're so happy talaga, sa therapy center ni baby they also have toddler class, yung OT kasi niya (who is also the school head) eh kilala si dr lazaro and she thinks nga irerecommend yung toddler class so even before our assestment with him eh nakaplot na yung next activity ni baby, for a start her toddler class will be once a week (every friday) and may kasama pa siyang therapist (she'll act like a shadow teacher) medyo matagal kasi magwarm up anak ko sa ibang kids her age pag nakaadjust na siya sa ganon na setting little by little iiwan na siya ng therapist, pag nag ok na and she pass the evaluation sa regular school (kasi may katabi din silang mainstream school) then that's the time transfer na siya completely to a regular toddler class
her OT and speech will be 4x a week (mon-thurs) i believe kasi in extensive therapy para sure na continuous and progress niya.
how's your daughter doing poh? may ilang words na poh ba nasasabi niya and does she talk na poh ba in phrases? sabi kasi sa akin ni dr lazaro with my daughter's age (21 months) she should have a vocabulary of 100 words and can talk in two word phrases like mommy milk, all gone etc. Baby ko kasi isang word lang hindi pa buo and hirap siya magcombine ng two words even syllables, ang nasasabi pa lang niya na two words is sit da (sit down) and hindi pa yun consistent, if i asked her to say starfish, because she can pronounce star and fish eh hindi niya yun masabi as one word she'll either say star or fish lang

@ swtgrl_bee

she just turned 2 lang pala, atleast she can talk in phrases and her vocabulary is growing baka hindi na din irecommend sayo ng dev ped na mag speech therapy baby mo, im also looking forward for my baby's toddler class start na siya on june14 pansin ko kasi pag nasa playhouse kami at may nakikita siyang nagsasalita na ibang bata parang ginagaya niya yun nga lang in her own words but i noticed na gusto niya din makipagcommunicate though hirap siya sabihin through words usually through gestures lang or she'll say it but it's difficult to decipher kasi nga putol yung words or shortcut lang like kanina she says "bah" yun pala butterfly so irepeat to her na lang the correct pronunciation hoping na soon she'll say the whole word eventually....
