i've been bfeeding exclusively since my baby was 5 days old, kasi non lang po ako ngkaron ng milk. then after 2 weeks, he turned yellowish. the pedia told me to stop bfeeding until ma-diagnose clearly what type of jaundice was it. during that 1 week, i expressed my milk para di mawala. it was diagnosed bfeeding jaundice so i resumed feeding him again, though not always directly from me 'coz i sometimes had to go out, so he was bottlefed pero bmilk pa din but pag nauubos yung expressed milk ko, he was given formula 2-4 oz lang naman til i get home. my problem now is, nagtataka ako kasi sa gabi, i breastfeed him and okay naman ang feeding nasasatisfy naman sya. when he wakes up in the morning, i'd breastfeed him for like 2-4 hours with little breaks lang, di pa din sya nasasatisfy. even after he's taken a bath, he'd nurse from me again, he wouldn't sleep 'coz he's still hungry. i give him my breasts alternately pero siguro because na-consume na niya milk from both breast, he'd cry and wouldn't latch anymore kahit ano gawin ko. so what i do is napipilitan ako to give him formula para lang masatisfy sya. after giving him the formula okay naman and nakakatulog naman ng ayos.

i don't know if i'm doing something wrong. i'm taking malunggay caps 3x a day, drinking lots of fluids and soups, always letting my baby stimulate my breast to increase milk supply.

bfeeding moms...i need all the help i can get 'coz i don't want to give up bfeeding.

help,
she

Hi She,

Just like you, im also a breasfeeding mother.  I just gave birth to my 3rd child, he's almost 4 months old and have been breasfeeding him. I understand how you feel, lalo na when you really want to breasfeed your baby. That happened na also to me. I realized lately lang din, that when you're pressured or stressed, it affects the production of our milk. I noticed when i am relaxed and was able to sleep well, i have plenty of milk. We can't avoid being stressed at times, and all i can tell you is , its okay to give formula milk kung talagang wala na silang nakukuhang milk sa atin. Don't force yourself. It's not your fault. Our bodies just need to rest lang sometimes , once we've rested our body will start producing again, kasi you're doing the right thing naman, drinking lots of fluids, sabaw, malunggay. Don't eat maasim na sabaw daw. Ako I dont. Then if you feel like you have lots of milk, pump mo and freeze it. That's what i do, i freeze some of my milk, sayang din kasi. Don't worry too much.  :) Good luck! Happy breastfeeding!

Hi She. Don't give up! You seem to be on the right track kasi it's said that the more the baby feeds from you, the more you'll produce milk. In my case, I hardly produced breastmilk (even with malunggay capsules and plenty of water and soup) and my baby had difficulty latching. Whenever I expressed (for at least an hour every 3-4 hours) less than 1oz lang lumalabas. If your milk is increasing when you express, your body may be starting to listen to your baby's cues for more milk. A clear sign that your baby's not getting enough milk is if he's not thriving and is losing weight after the first two weeks (it's normal for a little bit of newborn weight to be lost initially). Also if he's not wetting enough diapers in a day. Ok lang to supplement with formula but try using yung mga premie nipples, they have smaller holes kaya he'd still prefer to suck your breast come feeding time.

My baby was a little bit jaundiced too when she was born (though not enough to put her under bili lights). My pedia recommended morning sun between 7:15am and 8:30am. She also said that pooping helps eliminate the yellowness; so if your baby's a regular pooper mas mababawasan agad yung jaundice.

try to do direct feedings muna.  this will help you boost your milk supply. and if possible, don't give mix feedings para maging malakas ang demand for breastmilk.

Pero how to fight yung frustration knowing (and hearing from your baby's screams) na nagugutom na sya?

Correct me if I'm wrong na breastfeeding yata is for stay-at-home mommies talaga, as in walang tanggalan? Kasi po in my case nabibitbit ko pa nga si baby sa work and may private room kami pero wala pa rin, ang taba-taba niya and parang I was thinking na what if I'm starving my baby sa kakaunting lumalabas sakin? Alam kong gutom pa sya kaya di bale na lang. I guess it's weakness na rin on my part, better luck to me next time, sana.

definitely not only for stay-at-home moms.  it could work well even for working moms.  i'm a working mom who was able to breastfeed exclusively for 2 straight years, started mixed feeding when my son turned 2.  he's now 3 1/2 years old, and he's still on bedtime nursing.  i prefer to follow the child-led weaning.

milk establishment is very important at the earliest stage.  this will ensure that your supply will continue to be very well established even if you go back to work with the help of your breastpump.

i am now bfeeding exclusively. nagtataka lang ako parang mabagal weight gain ng baby ko. i bfeed him on demand and halos wala na nga ako ginagawa kundi mgbreastfeed. breaks lang is when i eat and take a bath. he's 3kgs. at birth, now he's 2 months and 4.3kgs. pa lang sya. diba dapat 1kg every month ang gain?

one more prob of mine, yun nga di na ako makaalis sa tabi niya. i tried putting him on the sling pero ayaw niya kasi siguro he couldn't move freely. pag kaylangan ko umalis napipilitan ang yaya mgbigay ng formula kasi kulang yung iniiwan kong breastmilk. konti lang naiipon ko kasi nga he's nursing the whole day. i couldn't bring him naman kasi i ride puv's.

hey i can relate to this. when I was breastfeeding, parang yun na lang ang pwede kong gawin, every hour nagugutom sya tapos more than 45 minutes syang kakain every time. Chubby naman si baby nun pero parang parating gutom, and ang hirap mag-insist na i-breastfeed ko lang sya exclusively, siguro kasi first child ko sya and nakaka-guilty pag iiyak sya dahil gutom and tinitingnan ka na ng masama ng mga kasambahay mo. Hehe.

i can't help you out with regards to your dilemma, since ako mismo i did not get to breastfeed exclusively. in fact, when i started to work i eventually stopped lactating, pero nagko-comfort sucking pa rin si baby sa akin. i accept my shortcomings, and i try not to be hard on myself. i wish you luck, and i salute all the mothers who do get to continue breastfeeding! :)

I had the same prob with my baby too when he was younger. Back then he was also exclusively breastfed. I read articles at kellymom.com that it happens, some babies even up to 10 days. My baby before poops once a week lang. I feel there should be no cause for worry because he's happy, doesn't complain of any pain and his tummy isn't firm. Also when he poops, the consistency doesn't seem he's constipated. Our Pedia however isn't confident. She said BFd babies poop more than once a day. We had him xrayed and there's no obvious negative result. We were advised to go to a pedia gastro-something, which we found out can cost us almost 100K. We put the plan off unless we see something wrong. After 2 weeks his pupu became frequent and regular.

same here,i asked our pedia regarding this matter.nung newborn p baby ko he would move his bowel frequently.ganun daw talaga pag breastfeed, kada dede mag dudumi.nung mga three months naman siya na alarmed kami kc he would move his bowel after three days and for one month ganun siya hanggang sa ngaun every five days naman.akala ko noon constipated siya but how could that be e bfeed siya?his pedia assured us that there's nothing to be worried about kc mareregulate  lang daw bowel movements ni baby around one year of age.and yung irregular bowel movements ni baby is normal lang.minsan on the fourth or fifth day niya na di nag pupu tas magpupupu na siya two times a day pa and it's normal  so there's nothing to be worried about.
i had this problem din na yung baby ko doesn't seem to get enough milk from me kc he is easily distracted.for example naka latch on siya then may magsalita lang sa family namin or makarinig ng favorite commercials niya(yeah, believe it or not yung clear and cream silk or yung lucky me na kumakanta maglaro tau lalala)na didistract siya manonood then di na mag lalatch on.tapos iiyak pag tapos na kc gutom pa pero once na na break na yung first latch on ayaw n niya mag latch on.nung check up na niya sa OB nag gain naman daw siya ng weight so kahit distracted siya pagdede as long as his gaining weight there's nothing to be worried about.his 7.6 kilos na at 5months. :D

it helps na relax tayo when we breastfeed...ganun din problem ko before parang feeling ko di enough yung milk na nakukuha niya sa akin. my mom told me na kailangan relax talk to baby or sing him a song while nagfeed sya sayo. sabi ng iba its all in the mind if we worry too much na kulang ang nakukuha ng baby magiging kulang daw talaga. mag exclusive breastfeed ka muna for the week and kung talagang hungry pa sya iba yung utusan mo to feed him using formula para alam niya yung difference. i read it somewhere na kung mommy din nagbibigay ng formula parang naguguluhan daw ata ang baby so if you plan to mix feed iba dapat yung nagbibigay ng formula.

practice makes perfect. also ask your pedia about it.

about naman the poo time. my baby now doesnt poo regularly and advise ng pedia is to give him atleast 4oz of water daily. i read in the net (searched sa google about baby poop) that breastfed babies don't poo naman daw regularly kasi walang nawaste na vitamins kaya walang dapat ipoo as long as regular naman yung pee niya and nag utot naman sya its ok.
