hi im eight months pregy and found out n me uti ako. the dr prescribed me cefalexin cefalin kasi when i go to drugstore ala n sila cefalin binigay nila yung generic ng cefalexin which is cefalexin lang and made by united laboratory inc. my question is hndi b harmful uminom ng generic s branded or hndi b harmful yung gamot n iniinom ko.

reply:

Hello,

According to Doctors, safe yung cefalexin sa pregnant women. Actually not all antibiotics are safe kaya yung specific medicine lang na yun ang binibigay for treatment of uti on pregnant women.

Cefalin is just a brand name, cefalexin pa din yun just one and the same. If bibili ka nng generics, it is better kung sa generika sa bibili mas mura na, duly licensed pa sila. And their medicines are usually direct from europe.

Marami din kasi branded na hindi maayos ang pag formulate ng gamot so, ang tendency, less effective.

I had been prescribed Zegen (Cefuroxime Axetil) for uti. But it is best to take more fluids like water and juices then siyempre ihi ka regularly para lumabas yung infection with the urine.

In my opinion try mo muna home remedy before ka mag-take ng anti-biotics. I know its safe to take Cefalexin pero mas maigi kung makaiwas muna in taking medsas much as possible, i think its safer...drink lots of water esp now super init, if possible 1 glass every hour i-alarm mo n lang cel to remind you...ako ginawa ko nun uminom ako ng pinaglagaan ng mais...mas effective sya sabayan mo n din ng buko juice...

hope you'll be OK and ur baby...God Bless

Nag take ako ng Augmentin 625mg 2x/day for 7 days due to UTI nasa 24-25 weeks ako nun, after 1 week nag Urinalysis ako, OK na ang result, magaling na ko. Reseta naman ng OB ko yun kaya tiwala ako na di makakasama sa baby ko. Im on my 33 weeks now. medyo malapit na.

hi!

kung reseta naman ng OB, safe na siguro yun for baby. or yung possible risk sa pagtake niyan is less than not taking the med.

i've read that mas serious ang consequence for the baby if the mom has any infection left untreated during pregnancy. better follow your OB's advice ASAP. if you're unsure, then get a second opinion from another OB ASAP din. baka kasi maka-apekto kay baby yung condition mo kung magtatagal pa.

thanks to all..actually, I double checked it with my cousin, who has a friend na OB Its ok to have but not in 1st-2nd trimester. I also asked my doctor just now if I can change it, buti na lang she agreed, she replaced it with cefuroxime zinnat. Bit pricey than augmentin.
