Hi po,

My daughter was baptized 4 years ago but for some reasons I was not able to get her Baptismal certificate after the baptism ceremony. I went to the Church last Sunday to get it and was shocked to know that they won’t be giving the Baptismal Certificate because my hubby and I are not yet married sa Church but Civil lang. They said letter lang ang ibibigay nila. The letter states since parents are not yet married the Baptismal Certificate won’t be released.

Ganito po ba talaga ang policy ng Catholic Church?

ha? bakit kaya ganun? saang church yan sis? yong sa akin sis civilly wed lang din kami tapos bininyagan yong anak namin nung dec 2010 tapos nakuha ko naman yong baptismal this year lang din nung august2011. ok naman.   magpunta ka sa intramuros sis Archdiocese of Manila pinakamain ng office ng catholic church para ma-raise yong concern mo kung bakit ganun.

Anong church yan Mommy? Kakabinyag palang nung son ko, after 1 week daw available, eh Civil wedding palang din kami, pero wala namang sinabi nung nag pareserve kami about sa ganyang case.

thanks sa response. baka nga depende sa Parish Church.

Sa Our Lady of Lourdes PArish Church sa Tagaytay City bininyagan yung daughter ko..mahigpit nga ata sa  sila sa binyagan requirements..sa second baby ko baka sa ibang church ko nalang pabinyagan si Baby...para wala ng hassel..nag-iipon pa kasi ni hubby pang church wedding..

Ganun? Parang ang OA naman ng rules. Ang alam ko hindi ka puwede ikasal if hindi ka nabinyagan, pero pwede makuha baptismal cert ng baby kahit di married sa church ang parents.

civil wed din ako pero di naman ako nagkaproblema sa pagkuha ng baptismal certificate ng anak ko sa church. sana wala namang ganiyan na policy kasi hindi rin naman 'yan fair sa parents most especially to their kids

sis yung sa eldest daughter ko di pa kami kasal nung binyagan sya, so far nakuha ko naman, yun talaga di kami kasal kahit saan , bakit ganon kahit civil wed atlist okay na din un

sis baket naman kami , civil wed lang din kami pero wala naman problema, humingi lang sila ng copy ng marriage contract namin saka yun birth certificate ni baby

hi sis! Yan din ang alam ko sa parish na sineserve ko ngayon as Legionary. Ang work namin sa parish ngayon is to follow up all couples na Civilly Married & Not yet married na nagpabinyag ng babies nila. We encourage them to pursue Church Wedding kasi importante ito sa atin as Catholics. Hino-hold po ng ilang parishes ang baptismal certificates ng bata. Pero not all parishes naman are implementing this. Kaya dun sa mga couples na pina follow up namin, we are offering Mass Wedding (free of church processing fee). Kaya sis, please consider nyo naman ang church wedding.

@peppergurl971: me & my hubby civil wedding kami. this dec. binyag ni baby. at catholic church ko din siya papabinyagan.  dapat pala itanong ko din kung magbibigay sila ng certificate.  mabuti na lang nabasa ko etong topic na eto.  sis, hindi ba pag civil wed eh legal na yun. at pagnagpakasal sa church ulit ay renewal of vow yun? wala pa kami plan ng hubby ko pakasal sa simbahan eh. after 10 years pa plan namin ng hubby ko ang sa church.

@sis chester, hindi naman po lahat ng parishes nag i-implement ng ganitong rule. This is their way kasi to promote/encourage couples to make their vows solemn, and importante ito satin na Catholic kasi this is one of the sacraments. Yung kasal nyo sa civil is of course legal na po yun,

strict pala masyado sa ibang church. Yung sakin, after a month nakuha ko na agad Baptismal Certificate ni baby. Aug 2011 binyag ni baby tapos Sept. 2011 nakuha ko na. Hindi pa din kami kasal non ha. Pumunta lang ako dun, tapos wala na requirements hiningi sakin.

this is the first time i heard of this concern.

while it may be a way to encourage/motivate parents to wed in church, withholding/not releasing the baptismal certificate is equivalent to blackmail (pardon the term). the baptismal rites of the child has nothing to do with the parents' wedding. in fact, even if not married, encouraging parents to have their child baptized should be done without conditions.

if you have not been informed of this condition  "no church wedding, no baptismal certificate release", before the baptismal rites, then perhaps this issue/concern should be raised in the appropriate diocese, as recommended by one mom here.

ngayon ko lang din narinig ang mga eto.. pano rin kung single parent si mommy, eh di hindi mabigyan ng baptismal certificate..
