FAQS and MYTHS about Breastfeeding
« Reply #15 on: August 20, 2010, 11:56:38 am »

These are common questions of a first time mom, share ko po ulit.

*Im sick and have a fever. It is safe to breastfeed?
Three to 5days after giving birth you might feel feverish especially when you are engorge(breast is hard and a bit painful). You can take fever medicines like paracetamol, which are safe and will not affect the baby while breastfeeding. If you are concerned with other illnesses, contact your doctor or lactation consultant for advice.

*It is very hot. Would my baby become dehydrated if I don not give extra water?
Breastmilk is composed of 88.1% water. Supplementing with water is not necessary and should be avoided because of the risk of contamination.

*I’m very tired and I just arrived from work. Is it safe to breastfeed my baby?
There is a myth that breast milk becomes “panis” when the mother is tired from work. There is no scientific basis for this. You may breastfeed your baby even if you are tired but you must learn to cope and try to relax .in fact when you are breastfeeding your baby, the brain releases oxytocin, a hormone which makes you feel relaxed.

I salute breastfeeding moms. Ituloy nyo lang yan. Hanap din kayo breastfeeding advocates din. Nothing beats breastmilk!
Never nagkasakit baby ko ng sipon ubo. Nung nag 1 yr old sha.. ayun dun nagkasakit. Waaaaaa. Sabi nila ganun daw talaga pag 1 taon na. nagpapansin.

Anyway. Ive been breastfeeding my baby until just recently - last Saturday to be exact. Nag quit na ako kasi 1 yr old na sha. And shes much into solids. Okay naman sa kanya hindi sha nagtatantrum and ok naman milk niya - Enfagrow A+. Though i would suggest na u breastfeed kahit hanggang 2 yrs.

I have a question, is this a fact or purely myth lang?

kasi what you are eating daw will affect your breastmilk..like if you drink sodas, chocolates and dairy products magco-cause daw ng colic sa baby..

is this true mga breastfeeding mommies?

yes sis. Anything you eat can affect breastmilk. Kaya dapat in moderation lang esp with coffee/colas na may caffeine.

You can find more info here sis: http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/mom/mom-diet.html

Happy breastfeeding!

i don't think that this is true.  10 mos ko ng breastfeed yung baby ko and never naman siyang sinipon even if i drink cold drinks.  kahit latelt madalas din ako mag ice cream no effect naman kay baby.
