Hi mga mommies! ask ko lang sana if safe mag breastfeed kahit nata-take ng antibiotic. Last Oct. 3 kasi na confine ako due to cellulitis medyo mataas na dosage ang binigay kasi di ako makalakad & may injection din ako anti tetano then lumabas ako ng hospital last Oct. 6 & nagtake pa rin ako antibiotic til Oct. 8. pwede na kaya ako mag breastfeed?

ask the doctor na lang sis just to be safe,mahirap kc my involve na medicine and you breastfeed pa,baka hindi pa fully nawawala yung medicine sa system mo then mainim ni baby diba...better to be safe than sorry

Hi sis, me too, nagka-mastitis ako and i've to take antibiotic, cefalexin yung sa akin..for 7 days yun.  I think it depends sa antibiotic na take mo. In my case okay lang to continue breastfeeding, my doctor told me that it will help to cure my mastitis.  As for how many days or hours that a medicine stays in our system, its 48 hours according to my doctor.

So I guess it depends sa gamot na i-take mo, might as well ask your doctor sis. Take care.

sabi nila (as in my pedia and OB  gyne), it is not that safe so better daw if I take natural remedies.  yun ang sabi nila ha as I have no experience on this, it's good to consider their suggestion. if masakit yung boobs dahil hindi maka breastfeed, just express the milk and throw it away.  then breastfeed na lang when you're done with your medication.  isipin mo na baka ok din na simulan ng i-train si baby na mag bottle feed while you're on medication.

kuha ka ng clearance sa doctor mo sis.  and kung me iinumin ka pang gamot tell your doctor how important breastfeeding is to you at bigyan ka ng bfeeding friendly na gamot

Ang alam ko hindi ka pedeng magbreastfeed kung nag take ka ng anti biotic.  You have to wait ata for a few days.  Nasabi sa kin yan dati kasi breastfed din sa baby.  Best option is to ask the pedia or the OB or whoever gave you the antibiotic kung safe siya for breastfeeding moms.

Just got a tooth extraction and my dentist prescribed me antibiotic. This was the same antibiotic that my OB gave me a couple of months ago for my cough and colds. Okay naman daw even if I'm breastfeeding (though hindi nga lang ako exclusively bfeeding).

share ko lang mga mommies.  if you're sick with ubo, sipon, fever please do not stop breastfeeding. your body is producing antibodies that is passed on to our babies through our milk.  there are a lot of medicines that are found safe for breastfeeding moms. our babies are already exposed to the viruses long before tayo nagkakasakit so why stop?  if you need to take medicines, ask your doctor if its safe. if not, ask for another brand that's safe.   share ko lang. i breastfed my son even when i had measles.

@Kimps08; I was gonna say sana exactly what you posted. But just to reiterate. DO NOT STOP BREASTFEEDING, unless otherwise specified by your doctor. Again, your body is producing antibodies when you are sick that are passed on to your baby whenever you breastfeed him/her.

The most common cause of cough and colds are viruses so no need to take antibiotics immediately. Lots of fluids lang muna. Water therapy ika-nga. Antibiotics only work on bacterial infections. Besides, we are not suppose to take any antibiotics without a doctor's prescription. Why? Because if you take an antibiotic and you don't take it properly, your body develops resistance. Meaning, hindi na tatalab ang antibiotics na yan sa katawan mo the next time you would need to take it and you would need na to take a stronger kind of antibiotics.

And if you indeed have a bacterial infection and self-medicated and did not do it properly. This bacteria could develop resistance. Pano na lang kung sa resistant bacteria nahawa ang baby mo? Pati sya strong antibiotics na ang kailangan.

Yes, mommies, tinatakot ko kayo kasi its not right to self-medicate. Please take the time to consult your doctors. And don't forget to take your vitamins.
