question about this vaccine. will it totally prevents us from having cervical cancer or it will just lessen the chances of having one?

for me, i think it will just lessen the chance of having cervical cancer. kasi daming types of hpv more than 100. but yung vaccine, it helps protect against 4 types of hpv: 2 types that cause 70% of cervical cancer cases, and 2 more types that cause 90% of genital warts cases.
for the test, you can try the hpv dna test.

yung sa kin naman nag offer yung sa office namin ng cervarix brand @ Php4K only.  Mass order kasi kaya nakamura yung company namin.  Tapos nga 6 months to pay pa yung 4K so 300 lang per payday..kaya nag grab na rin ako.

agree ako na it will help lessen and even prevent cervical related deceases..for long life na rin syempre..

hi mga sis! just wanna share this, im confused kasi... i had my OB's check-up yesterday for annual paps and for my other personal concerns. one area that we discussed is the HPV vaccine, i got my first shot back there in the Philippines and i want to complete them so i asked my OB here(US) if she can give me my remaining 2 shots. weird kasi she told me na they are not giving it daw, instead the pediatricians here are the ones giving it. of course i asked how come? since dyan sa atin almost everybody eh gustong magpavaccine her answer really confused me. she said that it is normally given to "virgin" female ages 9-20 before they become sexually active, before being expose to the virus. if you are sexually active already and get the vaccine it will not prevent you from the virus na daw. sabi pa niya if you are married already what your partner have, you already have it and unless you are planning to have multiple sexual partners eh its useless na daw. it will only be effective daw if given before being expose to the virus (before being sexually active) and not if you're already engaging in sex not unless you're having multiple sexual partners OR if you're husband/boyfriend is also having sexual partners other than you. share ko lang mga sis added information lang. kaya i end up not having my vaccine na kasi hindi naman daw needed. nagtataka lang kasi ako kung hindi naman pala ito of "much" help eh bakit dyan satin mga OB nagbibigay nito? any other informations mga sis? im thinking if dapat ba ako magconsult sa pediatrician ng anak ko to get the vaccine?

^^ i heard nga sa US the pedias administer yung HPV i dunno why din. pero dito sa pinas, i think if you want your kids to be vaccinated, pedia din hindi pa sa OB. also, yung HPV vax na for adults mas madaming strains kesa dun sa pang 9-20.

meron din mga pedia dito sa aten na ngooffer ng hpv vaccine mommy, my baby's pedia has it and my friend had hers from her daughter's pedia too.  i'm just not sure if you still have to consult your ob if you get the vaccine from them kasi diba baka me mga tests pa na gagawin before they administer the vaccine?

i was also planning to have this, syempre pang safeguard ng health natin, para safe tayo from this killer disease but if there are ob's saying that this will not be effective if we have it after we gave birth maybe we really have to check kasi sayang naman if we spend for it kung di na din naman siya effective right? ;)

I was supposed to have a vaccine at my husband's company clinic last year kasi they offered it in a lower price (1k lang) sa mga employees and dependents.  But when we got there in a saturday (kasi un yung date na scheduled ako), walang doctor kaya yung nurse yung mag-aadminister.  Pero before the nurse would give me the shot, ininterview niya ako if allergic ba ako sa foods (especially chicken skin and eggs) and sa medicines.  Allergic ako sa anti-biotic (Amoxicillin) and alam ko pinagbawalan ako ng derma ko nung teenager pa ako ng eggs kasi baka it triggers daw yung pangangati ko.  So because of those things, very hesitant yung nurse na turukan ako.  Baka daw kasi magkaroon ng reaction sakin yung vaccine.

I called my OB-Gyne regarding the situation (though matagal na rin niya ako gusto bigyan nung vaccine, namamahalan lang ako noon kasi can't afford ko e).  I asked her what's the worst reaction sakin nung vaccine.  sabi niya, pwede daw na mag-show ng allergy, the worst case is ma-ospital ako.  Well, hindi ko afford ma-ospital that time kasi bago lang ako sa work ko and wala pa akong leave credits.  Tinanong nung doc ko sino mag-aadminister ng vaccine, sabi ko nurse.  Hesitant yung OB ko about it kasi dapat daw docs lang ang pwedeng magbigay nung vaccine.

I talked with my husband about it, in the end, we decided not to take the vaccine nalang.  Nakakapanghinayang kasi cheaper price, pero if worst case is ma-hospital ako, lalong malaki yung magiging gastos ko.

For those na may allergy din to foods and medicines and ng-take na nung vaccine, how was your experience?  para at least alam ko ieexpect ko if I decided again to take it... thanks :)
