Breastfeeding for beginners
« on: February 20, 2012, 07:06:49 pm »

Hi mods, if there's a topic about this na somewhere, please feel free to delete/merge. Wala pa akong nakikita so far e.  :(

Anyway, new mom here, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy last Thursday.  ;D Ever since gusto ko talaga ibreastfeed si baby kaya I'm doing my best na. For the first couple of days parang hindi siya nabubusog even though I let him feed on both breasts na kaya napabili ako ng Similac HW Plus just to supplement.

Pero now naguguluhan ako kasi I'm leaking na and sobrang namamaga na yung breasts ko so I know there's milk. Nagsusuck naman si baby pero for a several seconds lang tapos nakakatulog siya. Even though I try to entice his root reflex  para magdede ulit nagsostop siya after a while. Ulit nanaman yung process.

Thing is, pag yung formula yung pinapadede ko sa kanya, dere-deretso inom niya.

Bat ganun? :(

hello sis!

most first time moms ganyan ang worries. Just like my baby when he was a newborn, ang takaw grabe, dire-diretso makaubos ng milk sa bottle pero sakin sandali lang dumede. One thing I learned lang, sana I didn't introduce bottle-feeding/formula agad, kasi to think, madami namang moms ang successful EBF since birth.

Challenge talaga yan sis.

Hi mommies!

I am breastfeeding my baby for 16months now and if I may say I am pro na (proud lang). Anyway, before din like 24 hours after I gave birth ganyan na rin ang anak ko, wala pang 10 minutes nakatulog na siya while nursing her. What I do is to tap her a little on her legs or haplusin ko cheeks niya para magising to remind her na it's still her feeding time.

Just teach your baby na its feeding time, kapag nakakatulog gisingin mo lang ng konti para maituloy niya pagdede niya. Eventualy maoutgrow rin niya yan. And if you feel ngleleak ka n e you pump na para hindi ka na magkapain kung hindi mo mailabas.

Go, sis!

my suggestion is to ditch the formula.  breastfeeding works on a supply and demand basis and the more you give formula, the more na magdidiminish ang supply.  breastmilk is easily digested kaya mas mabilis magutom ang baby kapag breastmilk ang ininom niya compared sa formula. try reading din from www.kellymom.com for tips on how to wake up baby para mag-feed.

Thanks guys. Anong position kayo nagpapa-breastfeed? Haaay.

It will heal on its own just continue to breastfeed your baby.

May nipple cream naman para maiwasan yung ganun kaya lang too pricey for me eh.

Ako naman never ko nakaexperience ng ganyang pain kahit na I am exclusively breastfeeding my baby for 24 hrs at derecho sa akin. Thank God. And dont rub to much ng soap when you take your bath, nkkdry din kasi un.

Ako naman I normaly sit whenever I nurse my baby. Dapat comfortable talaga ako and I use pillows and nursing pillow. Kasi pagnakahiga ako may tendency na makatulog ako e baka ano mangyri kung makatulog ako while breastfeeding. Kasi nga 24hrs ang pgbreastfeed so baka antukin ako pagnakahiga. It is upto you kung saan ka mas komportable.

Ako naman super supportive ang family sa pagbreastfeed ko, even my OB and my baby's pedia. Which is ok naman and very rewarding.

@Sis kulotski,

Nung time na nanganak ako nilagnat ako then nung pinahupa ko lagnat ko ayaw naman na niya kasi nagstart na sya sa feeding bottle which probably the reason why she don't like it as sis ericamm shared here. My daughter is four years old now though she is healthy, still maganda pa rin if nag-breastfeed sya kaya sis tama lang na ipagpatuloy mo lang yang pagpapa-breastfeed mo sa baby mo. :)

You can read more details dito sa article na to, sis: http://www.smartparenting.com.ph/mom-dad/breastfeeding/breastfeeding-basics/moms-benefit-from-breastfeeding-too-not-just-babies :)

May mga secrets ba kayo for successful breastfeeding? Like mga food, ganun? And since yung problema ko hindi kami matapos-tapos ni baby maski na 2 hours nang binebreastfeed, buong araw ko talaga siya ipapadede? :(

Hi po, I stopped breastfeeding my baby when he's still 2 months old, puro formula na lang siya now. I am now in my 3rd month from giving birth, tapos nagkaroon na ako ng menstruation, I tried to pump my breast, may lumabas pa naman na milk, pero super konti lang.

Im exclusively breastfeeding mg 9month old baby boy. Pag boy talaga super takaw kaya ubos ubos lakas!

Dapat siguro, hanap ka ng pagkakaabalahan while nagpapaBF like read ng book, or like me nakikichismis sa SP using my phone.

For sure babalik supply mo, if ayaw niya try mo isneak ang breast mo habang natutulog siya.. Goodluck sis! Kaya mo yan!

A breastfeeding woman needs to keep herself in optimal health so she can give the best to her baby.
