"If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, avoid eating papaya or using a papaya product. Papaya is sometimes recommended for soothing indigestion, which is a common ailment during pregnancy. Although a fully ripe papaya is not considered dangerous, a papaya that is at all unripe contains a latex substance that triggers uterine contractions and may cause a miscarriage. 1

The papaya enzyme that helps soothe indigestion is called papain, or vegetable pepsin. Papain is found in the fruit's latex and leaves. 1 Researchers have noted that unripe papaya latex acts like prostaglandin and oxytocin, which the body makes to start labor. 2 Synthetic prostaglandin and oxytocin are commonly used to start or strengthen labor contractions."

-from Yahoo Health

In short, if it's ripe it might be ok, but better not to risk it.

Is it safe to take pineapple during pregnancy? Is it advisable at the end of a pregnancy to take pineapple juice or eat the flesh in order to bring on labour?

Maybe.

Eating pineapple or drinking pineapple juice is said to be an old wiveís tale to bring on labour for woman past their due date. Large amounts of pineapple juice can,  in fact, cause uterine contractions. Itís for this reason that in early pregnancy, itís often suggested that you donít drink pineapple juice in excess amounts.
Why pineapple can cause contractions

Fresh pineapple contains Bromelain which can also soften the cervix . But it is said that it takes large quantities to have any effect which can also result in diarrhea. Some women say that theyíve had zero problems having plenty of pineapple and pineapple and pineapple juice during pregnancy and others claim it brought on labour.

The verdict on pineapple during pregnancy?

Some would say that you should eat it in moderation and watch for any signs of problems before your due date.

no nega effect naman saken ang papaya at pineapple - be it juice or yung fruit itself.. dont know na may ganito palang facts about the said fruits..

pero this 2nd pregnancy ko, i seldom eat ripe papaya - medyo hindi keribels, niluluwa ko lang while the pineapple naman - juice man or yung fruit, lagi ako kumakain pero hindi naman madamihan.. tamang alis umay lang and i find it ok naman when it comes sa BM (bowel movement) ko..  i tried drinking yakult too if nacoconstipate ako..

better ask OB na lang siguro whats best for you sis.. whats good for you might not be good to me or vice versa..

take care sissy!!  :)

Hi Sis,

I don't think na masama ang Papaya, we have the same problem "Constipation."  I brought the issue to my OB tas sbe niya kumaen daw ako ng Papaya kahit one slice a day, di naman siguro niya iaadvice kng masama db so sinunod q and so far Papaya nga ang sagot sa problema q.  ;D  Ska sbe din niya sken na pagkaen daw ng Papaya ang usually inaadvice nila sa my mga edad na kasi daw ang elders constipated talaga.

^

Sis, Calamansi juice is rich in Vitamin C which boosts ones immunity, specially us, pregnant women na kailangan umiwas sa sakit like cough and cold. Nabasa ko din na Citrus eases morning sickness. Since ginto ang price ng calamansi dito sa UAE (and hindi lahat ng supermarket may available), I settled for Lemon na lang. My mom juices it for me so atleast I can have my daily dose of natural vitamin C :)
