Hi mommies.  I am  fervently seeking your advice, insights, experience of what toys, books, teachings should I need to provide for my 2 yr old daughter to prepare her for school. I am an OFW mom and I will not personally teach my daughter, instead my Mom will be. I am decided to stay for good in the  Philippines when my daughter turns three.  Really appreciate all your responses..=)

Hi sis, my son started schooling this year, in terms of preparation, it is better to prepare for the separation anxiety, for being independent (potty training and eating by herself), social skills and the right manners.

Yung mga shape, paghawak ng pencil, yung letters, they can teach that in school and kaya nga natin ine-enroll yung anak natin dun para matuto. What we should teach them before they start schooling is yung mga bagay na dapat talaga ay natutunan sa bahay.

Dont worry about the academics, si teacher ang magtuturo ng A's, nag numbers, nang songs. :D

I am not perfect but I try my best to make the most of what God gave me.
Bad things may happen to me, but I will always come out of it with my head up high. Why? Because I know that I did the things I can control the right way. And the things I can't control, I leave it up to God's will.

Introduction to writing.  You can start with MegaSketcher or just manila paper and crayon.  Your child will tend to explore on anything na maisip niya - creativity.  Just make sure to teach her to write on paper only.
My daughter loves to draw kaya pag natapos niya... I tape it on the wall para ma appreciate niya work niya and draw more.

Blocks will be nice.  Puzzles.   Anything that is educational.  More on picture objects para ma familiarize siya.  Let her listen to nursery rhymes.  Storytelling will be great so that she will appreciate reading.

Advise sis.  Don't let her watch Cartoon Network instead Disney Jr. lang like Mickey Mouse (she will learn counting, etc.),

Hi sis, share ko lang what the dev ped taught us.

1. Dapat daw emotionally ready yung bata, as in prepare him/her to be independent or somehow matuto to manage him/herself - like what to do if kelangan mag pee, and need din na masanay na iniiwan sya.
2. Then yung tinatawag nila na sit-down learning. Yung nirecommend sa amin is to teach our daughter to study in a sit-down manner (almost every night namin na ginawang routine). As in yung meron sya table and chair for studying so she can learn how to focus.
3. (This one is my own reco) Holding a pencil - kasi sa school usually 1:5 yata ang ratio so mas madali to teach this at home. Based on my own experience, start with pencils before crayons. Kasi yung anak ko nasimulan namin sa crayons so nahirapan sya magshift to pencil. At first, she uses her pencils like crayons - so ang gulo ng handwriting niya hehe

grolier fun thinkers is a good material... it can cover a lot of the essential things a child needs to learn as he enters school...

most of the time, i just make use of everyday concepts para turuan anak ko...

words in the streets, colors of vehicles, shapes of clouds, counting stones in the backyard...
showing him that i am interested to learn, to read, to cooperate, to listen to him attentively while he shares his stories within the day that i am away...

more importantly, i let him know the values he can learn from this concepts.
math teaches us problem solving
english teaches us how to communicate effectively
science helps us understand ourselves and others
etc.

education is not a race, i believe...
learning is helping our child understand life so he can be the best that he can be  :)

hi sis, kami we used brainy baby and kidsongs videos when my girl was still a toddler. we did a lot of art activities sa house, I taught her 1 letter per day, tapos may art activity or play na related dun like A  nag drawing kami ng apple, kumain ng apple tapos we looked for other things na start sa A.

also used leapfrog toys, blocks, play doh, puzzles, try mo yung melissa and daug na wooden puzzles pati national bookstore flash cards. for books go to the Learning Basket blog, its a mom blog about early reading na I always go to. Okay yung mga advice, my kid started reading simple words at 2.5, now she's 4 na and can do independent reading ng mga pang grade 1 books na.

it will also be a good idea to start baby sa toddler school muna, my daughter tried the music module and learning lab in gymboree, more than anything it taught her to socialize and oreoared her for regular school. when she went to nursery hindi kami nahirapan magpapasok sa school and walang iyakan blues since she knew what to expect na.

-what color is mommy's hair?  sagot ng bata:  black.  tanong ako uli:  what else can be color black?  sagot ng bata:  gulong, damit, bra hehe

-what can be cold?  sagot ng bata:  ice.  tanong ako uli:  ano pa?  sagot ng bata:  ice cream, ice candy

-what did you have for dinner last night?  sagot ng bata:  noodles.  follow up question ko:  ano gusto mong pagkain bukas?  sagot ng bata:  tinola

at kung ano-ano lang na tanong na maisip ko.  napansin ko ang kagandahan nitong exercise, the kid is able to think on his or her feet parang nag-iisip na nga talaga tapos sagot din sila agad.   :)

ganda po ng mga advices...
c baby ko din disney jr madalas, pati umizoomi favorite niya ngayon, nananawa n sya sa mickey mouse pero my mga bago naman syang nagustuhan like hi5,pocoyo etc. laking tulong din sa vocabulary niya. nagugulat nalang ako alam na niya yung mga words like wind, rainbow, hop, etc. natuto din syang magcount kapapanuod ng tv, kayalang nalilito p sya minsan pabaliktad sya magbilang hehe... kaya pag nag haharutan kami/play time namin hinahaluan ko ng counting, colors din basta kung anong maisipan ko lang na pwede kong ituro sakanya while play time namin. yun din pag nasa byahe...yung color ng car binabanggit ko sakanya, nalaman dn niya yung kung ano yung car,bus,taxi,jeep,motor,bike...
parts ng body naman namemorize niya every bath time niya kase tinuturo ko sakanya kung anong part yung sinasabon/binabasa ko na sakanya, less than one sya nun nung nakikita kong unti unti nyang natututunan nakakatuwa.

ngayon kailangan ko sya itrain para d ko problemahin ang " separation anxiety" dinadala dala ko na sya sa mga playground sa mall, plan na ienrol s toodler's school this summer 3 times a week lang for 1 month.
potty training very good na sya :D konting train nalang siguro depende kung anong magiging uniform niya baka mahirapan pa sya.

Give her play dough..pag medyo malaki na give her naman mga beads kasi dun madedevelop yung kanilang grip sa pag hawak ng mga small things..My daughter is now 4 years old and she can read already...i gave her mga level 2 reading books...marunong na rin syang magsulat

Add on lang ito.  I believe that everything will be learned in school depende lang talaga sa interest at readiness ng bata.  Siguro ang pinakamaganda ituro natin sa kanila is to appreciate nature like a walk in the park/zoo...  I remember my daughter, she is watching Mickey Mouse clubhouse everyday and ng pumunta kami sa seaside behind MOA at nakita niya yun Manila Bay, ship, birds flying, sky...she was so amazed, parang na realize niya na ito yung nakita ko sa isang episode ng MMC at totoo pala.  She was comparing and really appreciating wonders. Explore them around nature.
