Baby's monetary gifts -- save or spend?
« on: November 09, 2012, 12:04:56 pm »

Hi fellow moms!

What do you do with your baby's monetary gifts (o kung sa Tagalog pa, pakimkim  :) )?

1. Save it in a bank account (possibly with baby's own account) or
2. Spend it for baby's essential needs -- clothing, gears, bday parties, health-related expenses (like vaccines), etc.

Re: Baby's savings -- kelan o paano lang ito dapat gagastusin?

Thanks, hope to hear from you!  :D

What I did and currently doing whenever my now 2.5-yr old son receives monetary gifts is to save it in his bank account. :) My rationale on this kasi is - as a parent, it is my responsibility to give my son his essential needs (food, meds, clothes, etc) so yung monetary gifts niya should be saved para in the future siya magdedecide kung saan niya gusto gastusin. :)

Pero siyempre this is just my pov, other moms could think differently. :)

i agree with sis Jac. i also opened a bank account for my son and dun napupunta yung mga pinamaskuhan niya, or nakukuha pag birthday. syempre as a parent we should be able to provide for our child's needs na hindi umaasa sa iba. para na din may savings na si baby for his/her future.

i agree mga mommies.... ako din im saving my son's money though hindi pa kami nakaopen ng account i see to it na nkalista lahat ng pakimkim at nagbigay sa kanya.  My baby is well provided naman, at naisip namin ng hubby ko na i-save yung money for his future, dadagdagan na lang namin monthly (w/o fail).

Kami rin we save it in trust for our son. Noong una, gusto ko pambawi sa gastos or gamitin yung money to buy things, etc. but my husband wanted to save it.  Kung afford naman to keep the money aside, then I would suggest to save it. But if medyo kulang ang panggastos nyo, then use the money.

sis eloytski: the best option talaga is to SAVE it. but if you really need extra for your baby's expenses, you can SPEND naman SOME of it. :)

so what you can do, SAVE most of it, and you can allot a certain percentage for spending sa current needs ni baby. 70% save, 30% spend ganyan. Your call on how much to allot. :)

Thanks for the insights, mga mommies! :-\

I agree with sis wahmproject, if you need the money for baby's essentials/ needs, wala naman problem na gastusin mo iyon.. Sa eldest ko, yung mga pakimkim at napamaskuhan niya before, nilista ko pati yung amount - i tried to keep it and save it for his future KASO may mga unforseen expenses to the point na nagagalaw din namin PERO i see to it na naibabalik ko din naman.. I opened an account for him - sometimes pag binabawasan, naibabalik ko naman with interest pa, hehe..

ako - both is ok with me SAVE IT and USE IT for baby's needs..  :)

Save it. But if no choice spend, as long as si baby ang may need.

Same as everyone else here...save it in his bank account. I opened bank accounts for each of my boys right after they were baptized, so dun napunta lahat ng monetary gifts nila. There was a time when I had to spend some of my youngest son's money (for his 1st birthday party) but I did pay it all back after a few weeks. Di ko lang maatim na gastusin yung pera ng mga anak ko talaga because it's theirs, not mine.

For me SAVE it!

Mas maganda kasi yung habang baby palang sila nag-iipon na tayo for them. My POV is the money were given to my kids, so dapat sila din ang gumastos nun and not me. As for their needs, we have budget naman that are alloted for them kaya napoprovide naman namin ang needs nila and no need na bawasan pa ang savings nila  :)

^I just wish ganyan din thinking ng asawa ko. Gusto ko na talaga by this time since magpapasko na ipag open ng account si baby at si ate niya. Nagagastos kasi namin lahat as in.
