how to start apparel business (shoes and clothes)
« on: September 08, 2013, 01:32:05 am »

Hi, been thinking about opening my own line of apparel. I would like to start first with shoes then clothes.

Here are the questions that been bugging me and I really don't know what to and where to.

1. Where will I get the best deal when it comes to shoes? Most affordable, Style and Quality. Liliw Laguna? Marikina? or from china and bangkok? Was thinking of look for a supplier that will make my design for shoes in Liliw or Marikina then have my own apparel name imprinted on the shoes, where can i get this also? Or if in China/Bangkok, I'll buy RTW shoes of course then have my brand imprinted here in the philippines.
I can't decided, also, I wanted to sell my products in the most affordable price that I can give, my target prices are only 400-700 at most (slippers, sandals, shoes and heels). If I'll travel abroad, the fare, hotel, tax etc will add up to the expense and if the divisoria shoes are from china, yes really cheap, yes stylish, but the quaity is at stake. And if il get here in liliw or marikina, can they deliver me the 3 standards of affordability, stylish and quality that im looking for. And do you know suppliers that can offer me this?

2. Clothing. same as my shoe line. is it better to look for direct RTW supplier? in china? bangkok? divisoria? or get seamstress and fabric supplier? if ill get RTW where is the cheapest and most stylish? and kind of unique na hindi lahat meron. kasi sa divisoria halos pare-pareho although super mura. or if ill get a seamstress and fabric supplier, mas low cost ba?

Please help me. thanks all.  :)

hello sis, as per your query i would suggest for shoes go for the Philippine made shoes in liliw or marikina since our products are more durable compared to China made products. For the RTW you can buy in bulk in Vietnam. If you don't have enough budget to travel you may get from Divisoria suppliers.

Pero i think pag ganun may minimum yan. Advise ko for you, isipin mo muna yung brand positioning mo. Kung gusto mo talaga good quality, dapat may time and capital ka panginvest sa initial stocks mo. Kung gusto mo muna test yung waters na if retailing is for you, pwede mo try yan gawing initial stocks mo.

Shara20, don't be discouraged, think positive ka dapat. What I am just trying to advise is evaluate mo priorities mo. Im just trying to share my experience kasi with that. Pero may mga kilala ako na focused talaga sa ganyang business and talagang matyaga sila, until now ok pa din sila and kumikita.  :)

To start with, try the power of facebook and instagram. Post pictures of your product to let it known by others.

My wife is starting to start a small business also with crochet accessories so we made a facebook and instagram page. Try to see this:

https://www.facebook.com/hearts.in.hand.crochet
http://instagram.com/hearts_in_hand

Kaka-start pa lang din namin (Paki-like na rin po sana), sana mag-click.

Pwede naman kasi mauna ang online store mo bago mo pa maitayo yung physical store.
I have a friend selling organizers and jewelry boxes and talagang kumikita siya ng hundred thousands. May followers siya na around 37,000 sa instagram. On online shop, it's all about the traffic and then converting it to sales.

If ok yung business, saka namin gagawin yung physical store.

You have to create your brand first.  Hope this info help. Thanks!

my tip: when you are in a bazaar, try to talk to the sellers there kasi they can be your potential suppliers.  ;D
