Hi Mommies!
As a preschool teacher po for 5 years. Preschool is the whole system from the age of 1 year old to 6 year old. Now,  let me explain the difference between nursery and toddlers. Toddlers po is from 1.6 to 2.5 years old and nursery is from 2.6 to 3.5 years old then kinder and prep. The age bracket may change from school to school. In Toddler class, the kids are being taught of basic skills like pre-writing, socialization, socio-emotional growth, gross motor skills and fine motor skills then in nursery these skills are being fully develop as well as the focus on academics like math and language.
I hope this helps mommies. :)

Any advice SP moms will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Ang Deped kasi before the K1, they did not give a standard level for preschoolers basta dapat qualified na sila when they step Grade 1. This is why schools have different labels for the levels. Some call it toddler class, some nursery, some Level 1 pero same lang lahat yon. It's also up to the preschool kung ano ang gusto nilang itawag at anong age ang accepted nila for that level. Other school take students as young as 1.5 years old and call it toddler class, other calls it pre-nursery.
Pre-school refers to all the level before they move up to Grade 1.

Three-year-old:formal school or playschool?
« Reply #7 on: February 25, 2014, 03:41:05 pm »

Hi, Mommies and Daddies!

My son is going three on June 2014.  I have been scouting for his first school and found out there are different curricula for three-year-olds.  Some schools have three- year- olds  in the nursery level where reading and writing are already taught while other schools which are play-based concentrate on their primary skills like emotional skills,  interaction, comprehension and listening but writing and reading is not yet taught.

Need help in choosing, I want my son to enjoy his preschool but also I don't want him to be left behind in writing/reading skills.

Thanks!

Hi Mommy! I also have a 3 yr old and enrolled him into a preschool when he was just 2 yrs and 8 months by June 2013.  I would have to say both should be in the curriculum - some reading/writing but at the same time its also important to develop the child's emotional and social aspects.  Reading/writing should not be stressful though but incorporated into fun activities.

My son can now write his own first name but he learned it through "signing in" when he arrives in class. At first they just let him scribble anything but then it progresses as the schoolyr progresses.

My son's school daily routine includes the best of both - formal and playschool :) Which area/city are you looking for a school?

Hello! Uh oh sorry dont have any recommendations in the Laguna area.  But my advice, if you dont mind, since I also got this same advice from another parent when I was looking for a school.  There is no such thing as the best preschool...he said that what you are looking for is a school that will love and care for your child. Teachers that would be you partner in shaping your child's emotional, social, physical development.

I visited the school myself and really took the time to talk to the teachers :)  Sit in mo din child mo :)

well i enrolled my daughter when she's only 2yrs and 9months pa lang, too early daw yun sabi ng iba para sa formal school, so what i did is just enroll her, then tell the teacher na more on social development yung habol ko, ok lang yung learnings niya academically kahit hindi siya makasabay sa iba, kasi siya talaga pinakabata sa batch nila, pero to my surprise, she learned  fast, lalo na sa pagwrite, kasi pinasok ko siya dun kahit mag hold ng pen ng proper way eh hindi niya alam pero now eh she can write her full name kahit na super haba, knows how to write the alphabet and starting na rin to read...pero makulit pa din at times, pero part talaga yun...and she excel in her class...so happy, pero hindi ko siya pnpressure na mag aral ng mag aral, pag sa hows play time lang niya, pero pag gusto niya magstudy, yun study kami...
siguro its ok lang kung san mo mas gusto ipasok daughter mo, depends sayo kung ano ba mas gusto mo madevelop sa daughter mo, basta dont expect anything lang diba and support lang tayo as parents
