Hi everyone,

Please encourage your tweens and teens to engage in more physical activities...like playing Patintero, Taguan, Tumbang Preso and other Pinoy games.  Let them engage into sports like Badminton, Basketball or Dodgeball.

Here's how to check if your child is having too much computer/video games.  May compulsions na ba sila?  Isang klase ng compulsion ay ang pag ngatngat (chew) ng collar ng T-Shirt.  I got this from the additional articles of the book High Tech, High Touch by John John Naisbitt

Here's a game that I have tried:

  Scorched 3D Portable
Downloadable at http://portableapps.com/apps/games/scorched_3d_portable
free | portableapp | multiplayer | bots | online | chat | mod

How to play: You get a tank (or any other shooting character), buy items like shields, parachutes and weapons...enable shields, chute and then fire away...on each turn.

You can play against other online players.  Where there are no other human players, bots will be playing against you.

Enjoy the realistic 3D environment.  See the waters of the ocean move on the breath-taking landscape, hear the birds as they fly and a spectacular view of the sky

I believe this game enables budgeting and planning skills.  I can also see Geometry, Physics and Engineering in this game.

Downside: This game does not promote the saving of the environment as there will be a lot of destruction while the game is played.  In some modification of this game, players are even rewarded with items when they hit some wildlife. I am also concerned with the use of the word "killed" when one eliminates another player.

There are several mods of this game.  There's Merge, which have an extensive collection of shields and weapons to buy.  Apocalypse, which features fiery, hell-like maps...and my favorite, Scorch Wars...for Star Wars fans like myself.

portableapp - this means that this application simply unpacks itself.  It is not installed.  It does not hog up system resources...does not slow down your computer. It can be stored on your USB Drive.

This is a common prob ng mga parents nowadays. Before, talagang nakaset ang time ng kids ko sa computer. Pero dahil most of their school works are computer based, di ko maiwasan na iextend ang usage nila. But then, minomonitor ko pa din ang ginagawa nila. Like what other parents said, maging strict tyo sa words na binibitawan natin sa kanila. If we said 1 hour, talagang 1 hour lang. Tapos, dapat makiki-jive din tayo sa likes nila. Minsan, sa age kong ito, I still play with them online. Kaya pag sinabi kong ayoko na, they also stop. My 2 teens knows their limitation at alam dapat nila kung hanggang saan ko sila pinapayagan with regards sa usage ng computer. Similarly, dapat i-involve talaga natin sila sa physical activities, plus letting them have time to be with friends...  :)

as a father naman nag sspend ako ng time with my son sa paglalaro..every weekend or pag kakauwi galing office..sa tingin ko naman ok lang sila talaga mag laro ng mga games..as long as my parental guidance lang talaga..at tsaka ididisipline mo din yung anak mo kung alin talaga yung tama o mali..mapa violent games man yan o hindi..basta alam nila kung alin ang tama at hindi ok lang yan.. :)

My sons usually choose their own game, I just make sure there is an appropriate rating. Sometimes we play popular games like Among Us, they like it a lot.
