Late Bloomer Lang Ba? Telltale Signs Your Child Might Have Speech Delay

13 Warning Signs of Speech and Language Delay (Birth to 3 Years)

Hello Mommies,

Thank you for reading my message.

My son is 3 years old ,and 2 months old. I'm worried about him because he can't speak in spite of his age. By the way, he is a boy. When he was 1 year old and 2 months, he tried to stand up on his own and after 2 months he tried to walk with his hands on the wall. At the age of 1 year and 6 months he can walk already on his own. He loves cars (mini car) the collectible items. He loves mickey mouse, and he loves to watch Hi-5. He can talk but only few words like hindi, daddy, mama, what's that. He know how to throw this diaper in the garbage can. When he poops sa diaper he will grab my hand papunta  sa bathroom para hugasan sya sa bowl. He has a lot of educational posters which he asked me to bought it for him, when we went to the market. He knows how to play with other kids but with boys only, little girls are fine but he normally plays with boys in the mall. We live in a condo unit and he's the only kid here. He knows how to bless. When he's looking at his posters he will point and say aaa,, eee,, like that. It's like he's reading or saying about the picture but he just can't say it. When he wants to go out, he will get his pair of shoes and he will ask me to put it on his feet. I even went to his pediatrician, and asked if we need to get a referral to a developmental pedia but she said she's not going to give me because she thinks my son is fine. He just needs to be with other kids. I don't know. I am open to your opinion.

Thank  you.

Hi puruntong!

Yung nephew ng ex bf ko ganyan din yung case niya.. late sya nagsalita.. as in almost 3 na oo, hindi, daddy, mommy, kuya, nanay at tatay lang alam niya.. basics lang talaga.. meron sya gusto sabihin pero di niya masalita kaya isign language niya na lang.. sabi nila cause daw nun is dahil sa pacifier.. kasi most of the time naka pacifier at di kinakausap ng buong salita ang bata.. or sa language na ginagamit.. minsan nacoconfuse daw yung bata kung ano gagamitin niya english or tagalog.. at sabi pa nung mga lola sa panunuod daw ng tom and jerry.. kasi di naman nagsasalita yun di ba puro actions lang.. baka nagagaya daw ng bata..

Hi sis!

In my opinion, makakatulong talaga kapag palaging may kausap ang bata. If I don't have work, I make sure na kausap ko palagi baby ko. They are great imitators. :)

I dont think may connection yung maaga naglakad ang baby boy sa pagiging delayed talker. My first born is a boy, walked independently when he was only 12 mos old but as early as 10 mos old lang may mga words na syang nasasabi..before he turned 2, fully conversant na..he was the only kid din sa house, but full time mom ako so i made sure na i talked to him often..you can help your kid by talking to him often, limit tv time and read books na lang instead of letting him watch tv. I agree na you use one language or dialect lang muna so as not to confuse the kid..what i did pa pala, when i talk to him, i made sure na eye level kami at nakikita niya movement ng lips ko, easier for him to imitate the words. Tapos everytime may new word sya, i praise him or showed my appreciation para mas maencourage sya..

hi sis!

ganyan din case ng bunso ko.. He just turned 3 last Feb but still wala pa syang masyadong words na sinasabi..

My son is turning 3 years old din in a few days. He was diagnosed with ASD not sure if mild kasi wala namang sinabi yung devped. Magstart pa lang siya ng OT niya. This is his situation. Ang aga niya sa gross motor skills. Tummy time on his own at 3mos, made babble and coos at 4months, sat alone at 6mos, stood and cruised alone at 7mos and walked at 9mos. 6mos when we left him sa province dahil my husband and I are both working in Manila. The only caregiver who’s with him constantly was his Lola 73years old and great grandfather, 95years old. They speak multi-lingual inside the house as in 4 different dialects. We only see our child every weekend or holiday or worse, hindi pa kami nakakauwi. Ever since, sobrang nakakababad siya sa tv. He already knows the alphabet and numbers at 1year old pero hindi pa niya ako tinatawag na mama. May few words lang siya right now like “Ayaw, Sarap, Hindi, his father’s name..” he is great with a lot of things, like madiskarte. Pero he is not interested with playing with other kids, sa isa lang, dun sa cousin niya na once in a blue moon lang din mag-visit. He likes cars, balls, lego and power tools. He now pees on his own, eats on his own, drinks on his own, etc. Sabi ni hubby nasa lahi daw nila yung speech delay but I am still very much worried. Do you know any child psychologist? Or anyone other specialists other than devped for me to have a second opinion of him? It’s heartbreaking to see my son knowing I know he can do better. Please. help. Thank you!

Hello Mommy Queen Pineapple. We once saw a child psychologist and that's when we were referred to a Developmental Pediatrician kasi sila ang mas nakakaalam kapag may developmental delay ang bata. You may opt to see another Dev Ped, but I won't advise a child psychologist for your son's case. My opinion po (note I'm not an expert) your Dev Ped did not say kung mild or kung nasaan siya sa spectrum because it's too early to tell. We went through the same. My son has to undergo OT and Speech and see the Dev Ped every 6 months para makita ang progress at difficulties niya, and by then masasabi na ng Dev Ped mo ang specific weaknesses and strengths niya.
ASD is not about lahi or kung sino ang nagalaga and don't be hard on yourself na kasi hindi mo lubos na nasubaybayan o naalagaan. There are people who were just born that way like people who have curly hair, different eye color or skin tone. Wala pong abnormality ang bata. He is just born different.

Hi mommy! I had the same problem with my baby boy Sixto. Akala ko magsasalita din siya eventually. At your child’s age, dapat nakaka simple phrases na siya. Or at least nageexpress man lang kung ano ang gusto. If you’re worried, you can hire a speech therapist to check your kid. Ganun ginawa ko. May nakuha ako who does home therapy. I can recommend you if gusto mo :)

Catalina,
