Has anyone tried breastfeeding as a form of birth control method? May nabasa kase akong thread dito na breastfeeding is considered as a birth control.. I am currently breastfeeding my 2-month-old child and until now, hindi pa rin ako dinadatnan ng period ko.. eh, nagkaroon na kami ng contact ni hubby on my 6th week post partum. Though hindi pa ko nag PT, feeling ko naman hindi ako pregnant, kase normal lang daw na matagal ulet magkaperiod pag nabbreastfeed.. Done some research and here are the criteria para safe ka from getting pregnant if you are breastfeeding:

-Breastfeeding must be the infant’s only (or almost only) source of nutrition. Feeding formula, pumping instead of nursing[2], and feeding solids all reduce the effectiveness of LAM.

-The infant must breastfeed at least every four hours during the day and at least every six hours at night.
-The infant must be less than six months old.

-The mother must not have had a period after 56 days post-partum (when determining fertility, bleeding prior to 56 days post-partum can be ignored).

kaso po I failed one of the criteria, nagbbottlefed din kase si Kashmir since Im a working mom, I work night time so daytime ko lang po sya napapadede.. confident na po sana ako sa natural method na yan kaso yun nga, hindi full time yung pagbbreastfeed niya..
now, balik po sa question ko, has anyone tried this natural method? can anyone attest if it's really effective?

Thanks mga mommies :)

Mommy its not effective na kasi nga you failed the first and most important criteria, look for another birth control method na  :)

I did not try it, but im a nurse-midwife and sa mga interviews with mommies na ganun ang ginawa, "puro akala ko kasi pwede"  ;), its not efective  :) and they're back after 10 mos  :D

yep.. it is possible lalo na sa situation nyo na 7 months na si baby.. the chances though are only 6% lang ayon dun sa nabasa ko.. kasi when a mother is nursing daw, her period is irregular.. meaning, hindi alam kung nag-o-ovulate ba o hindi..

my mom said, when a mother is nursing/breastfeeding, period is delayed up to a year.. depende daw kung gano kadalas magBF.. may hormone (prolactin) kasi na nagpe-prevent na mag-ovulate ang isang babae at mataas ang levels nun kapag nagbi-BF.. when you start to introduce solids, prolactin levels fluctuate thus increasing the chance of conceiving..

sana po nakatulong.. :)

daddy toppe68, kung regular ang menstruation ng misis mo at delayed na sha ng three days, better to do a home pregnancy test to confirm.. para mawala na rin yung agam-agam ninyong mag-asawa.. or kung mas accurate ang gusto ninyo, consult with your wife's OB po.. :)
